Does anyone know how to tell if the diesel engine block heater is on or off? The toggle switch is in the electrical panel in the BR but isn't marked on/off. Asked the dealer and he just shook his head.

I have a volt meter plugged into the socket next to the door where the control switch is located. If I reach into the cabnet and flip the switch I can detect the voltage change on the meter. I also check the amp meter on the power panel and can see the load increase when I switch on the engine block heater. When I first purchased the coach the heater was unplugged in the cellar compartment. After I plugged the heater in, the meters told what was going on.

Good Luck

Rob, ours is on the dash and lights up when activated. I would think if the toggle switch is pushed down on the upper part it is in the 'on' position. Can you look at the amp reading on your system?

Just wondering what your manual says about the switch.

Good luck,
MM.

Hi,

Plug in. Turn the switch to where you think it is on. Listen for the sizzle of the water. It will happen in under a minute.

Manual never mentions the switch.

Am heading south and stopping by Lazy Days. Hopefully, they can tell me. My concern is it may have been on for last 6 month when I purchased it.

Thx,
Rob

THere's your answer. Fool proof and low tech ~ just listen for the sizzle, you can't miss it.

Unplug the block heater.

Plug a desk lamp in.

See which position lights the lamp

What Tony is saying is that there is a outlet in the engine compartment where the block heater plugs into a normal 120V outlet. Check for voltage there.

On my panel I have a dedicated circuit breaker labeled block heater. All it really does is control the GFCI outlet in the motor area. I use that outlet for other things too if I need power at the back of the RV for something. I plug and unplug the block heater as needed and only use the breaker to control it when im traveling in cold conditions like next weekend (at least till I get south enough its not needed.)

The engine 'outlet'.... That's the way ours is set up. We have a regular outlet that the engine block heater plugs into. During the winter months I will leave it plugged in and it's a good idea to 'plug-up' the other outlet with a child protector insert so that grease and grime stay out.

The outlet has a cover that I can close if nothing is plugged in.
