Last year I asked questions about 5th wheels.....and you gave me lots of support, and great advise....we are still several years from retirement...but looking, wanting, and more than ready... We have and are looking at rv's and good list or options and features.
So in 2013 I wish to learn...look at...research YOUR FAVORITE CG...Resort...place..route...place to stop...
We dont feel boondocking is high on our list....well an occassional stop @ WallyWorld if en route.....
Would like quality nice CG and resorts from $ 1000 a month down....scenic routes.

When we first started out, CG's and resorts were the only thing for us. Now, we prefer boon docking or FS CG's for the quiet and solitude. RV's are self contained for a reason - to allow you to have all the luxuries of home and enjoy the great outdoors at the same time. So, to stay on track, with boondocking being our favorite, we next like Bakers Hole CG near West Yellowstone, MT and Falls CG off the Togwotee Pass in WY at 8000' - both of these FS CG's have water to fill up and electricity.

One of the neatest parks was in Fort McDowell, AZ. Eagle View RV Resort. They use the word resort and they mean it. Its well under $1000 a month and since I hadnt spent much time out west the views are incredible. The showers are cleaner than a ritz carlton which is also one of my pet peeves!
Its also near a casino if you enjoy playing the tables or slots.
Try a host of commercial parks, as well as State/County/City & Federal campgrounds. With a little experience under your belt, you'll come to appreciate the differences and gravitate to those that most closely match your expectations and enjoyment... whether it be for 2 weeks in a government campground or 3 months in a private park.
I prefer the ambiance of government campgrounds. But, I've found some small private campgrounds that come close to projecting that image while offering more amenities at the same time. Good luck and travel safe.

X2.......was just there and they get it. Most campgrounds do not. The staff is amazing, no airport noise, no train track noise, great views, road dead ends on Indian reservation so very little traffic, exceptional security, spotless facilities, etc. I also review campgrounds on my travel blog at www.blakesrvadventure.blogspot.com. Ga has some great Core parks on our rivers. Get a pass. Cheap camping with pass. Valid for all states.
As you can see from previous responses, there is a wide variety of camping experiences depending on what you like. I suggest as you countdown to your retirement that you get out and look at various campgrounds as a day visitor to see what appeals to you.
There are so many destinations to explore! We are just making lists and prioritizing where to travel.
One thing that surprised us is that even through we retired, we still don't have enough time to do everything we want to do. Life is all about choice!

I answered a question like this about five years ago and maybe it was coincidence but our favorite location started getting very popular. It is still our favorite. Let it suffice to tell you it is on the Pacific Ocean in Washington state. Somewhere south of the Olympic National Park and north of Astoria, Or.

Glacier Park MT and Yellowstone NP Wyoming. Both have full hook ups if needed and are by towns with necessities. Both approx 4 hours from us, one north, one south. Both have great places to see and are near wonderful spots to find out history, and the occasional Wally World. Another great place is in September, Belgrade MT. Gibson Guitar Nationals, tailgate in the 25 acre parking lot...dirt track racing, and take a tour of Gibson Guitars in Bozeman MT, just down the road.
