Hello All. My husband and I just bought our first ever RV. We already have 3 trips planned this year. Our inaugural trip will be to Allegheny state park, only about 2-3 hours away, next to the Thousand Island area @ association island resort,same, about 2-3 hours away, and lastly we will be staying in smoky bear campground in Tennessee (12 hours away).
Please feel free to share your thoughts if you have stayed in any of these places, also advice to us. My husband, through his work, is used to towing (our camper is 30')so I don't think that should be a problem. Also, any suggestions for places to stay in either eastern Ohio or northern West Virginia to stop overnight for our long trip to Tennessee. We, living in western NY, can not wait for winter to be over and camping season to begin! Thanks!

Welcome and congrats!! About half way there is an RV park we like called Fort Chiswell RV Park at the I-77 and I-81 juction. Off I-81 take exit 80 and go south on Hwy 52 less than half a mile on the left. Long level pull thrus. Good Sam park if you are members yet. http://www.campingfriend.com/FortChiswellRVCampground/
If it's a holiday or weekend, I would make reservations.
Note: There is a Flying J at that exit but it is too tight to get into for us.

Welcome to the forum. I can't give you any advice on the locations you mentioned.
If possible, camp a few nights in your yard or driveway. If not, go to a local campground.
You will get a chance to become familiar with the systems in your RV.
Have fun in your travels.

welcome my first suggestion is to camp in your drive for a couple times. you,ll be surprised at the things you don,t know ,and the items you forgot. , pull the rig around town and get the feel . congrats and be safe.

I am in Rochester as well. I have tent camped Allegheny and state parks in 1000 islands. I think both are great destinations.

Welcome! We lived in Batavia, NY for a number of years.
Allegheny State Park is wonderful! Several of our favorites not too far from you is Stony Brook State Park near Dansville and Watkins Glen State Park.
If you haven't discovered the website RV Park Reviews,check it out. Sort of a Trip Advisor for campgrounds. You can search by city and state.
When you get to the Smokies, hike Alum Bluff Cave trail - again a favorite.
We have so many good memories of camping with our kids when we lived in WNY!

I stayed at Association Island Campground when it 1st opened.
We had a great time between exploring and fishing.
Make sure that you put your Awning away at night and before you leave.
Winds off of the lake could easily destroy your Awning.
