Heading to NYC this spring and wondering if anyone knows of a nice RV park anywhere close by where we can catch a bus or metro into downtown? Don't want to drive car unless we have to and hope we aren't 2-3 hrs away in traffic.

You have a choice of one! Liberty Harbor RV. Is it "nice"? Depends on your standards. The sites are gravel but (a big concern) the place is secure and clean. You are walking distance from the subway, you have a nice view of the harbor and the statue of Liberty and the downtown NY skyline. We have stayed there and it is quite......uhhhh.........useful. We are planning to go back again this year. It's not a resort, but generally acceptable.

Another choice is Croton Point Park. The park is located on the Hudson River a 45 minute train ride north of the city. A long walk or short bike or auto ride gets you to the train station from the park.

Liberty Harbor is the place. A 15 minute ride to World Trade Center or 20 to Times Square. Its just a parking lot with water/electric but it is THERE! A 5 minute walk to the Path train and a 15 minute ride. Its a safe walk.

KOA Newburgh, NY. About an hour from NYC via train at Beacon NY. They have a tour bus that leaves right from the RV park. Great tour but pricey.

Liberty Harbor is your only real choice if you want to be near enough to NYC to get there and enjoy the day. You are very close to the PATH station which will take you across the river in 15 minutes to Manhattan where you can switch to a subway or start walking. As said above, Liberty Harbor is basically a parking lot with hook ups but is secure and the neighborhood is decent.

You really don't want to go into and out of the city on a commuter train that takes an hour each way if it is not delayed plus expensive.

There really is nothing else close to the City.

Liberty Harbor, located in Jersey City, NJ, is the spot you need. I stay there when I need to go tot he city. The "campground" itself is basically a chunk of a hugh commuter parking lot that the owner fenced off and added some electrical and water connections. But it is all about location. Used to be surronded by industry and scrap yards but they have cleaned it all up in anticipation of building new high rises and office buildings.

There is a water taxi that leaves from the marina M-F starting at around 6 am and takes you on a 10 minutes cruise over to Pier 13(?) on the East River (foot of Wall Street), or you can walk up Marin Blvd and catch the PATH subway train at the Grove St station. It will take you either to 34th Street (an MTA hub) or to the World Trade Center
