My 2012 38' Georgetown gasser is very quiet up to a little over 2000 rpm and 60mph. Slightly over 2000 rpm and between 60 and 65 rpm a rather loud howl seems to come not from the engine compartment but furthur back where the two exhaust pipes join the catalytic converter. Its totally rpm related because when I take my foot off the gass the noise completely stops even if my speed is way above 60. The noise actually slacks off a bit abouve 75. I'm guessing there might be some harmonic resonation going on above 2000 rpm. Anybody else experience this with the V10?. The engine performance is very good. Plenty of power and if I'm not using speed control I often catch myself creeping up to 75 or 80. At any speed the noise stops totally when I let off the throttle. So its not tire noise, etc.

Check the heat shields on the converter and exhaust system in general. Had a Ford Ranger many years ago that did the same thing, howled at certain RPM range. A weld on the shield cracked and allowed the vibration.

First off, it's not the engine, it's the chassis that you want to have a look at.
If it is not the heat shields, then rear end or drive shaft are the next two most logical things. You might want to contact your Ford dealer (it might take a while to find one who services motorhomes) and get it in for a diagnosis and repair.

Also possible hole or leakage in the exhaust system from the Y-pipe back through the cat converter or muffler.

My howl is from the Dana rear end. Typical and nothing to worry about. Pinion bearing wear.

Had a 2001 Geargetown, Ford F53 chassis that did it. Now my 2006 Ford F53 chasis also does it altho it has become much less after about 35000 miles. I'm guessing the rear end gears take a long time to 'Break in' and mesh more smoothly. I'd still have it checked by Ford if its still WARRANTY!!! If not warranty DON'T go anywhere near a Ford place.$$$$$$$ Find a good rear end shop.

Does it have a tube grill? Tube grills will produce a whistle or noise. Fill with foam insulation to cure that problem.

It is still under warranty and I'm taking it in on Monday. I don't think it is in the mechanical drive train because the sound quits the second I let up on the gas even though the RV is traveling at 70 or 75. The rear end and drive shaft would still be turning at high rpms. It is directly related to engine rpm but the sound seems just aft of the passenger seat area which is directly above the cat converter. Volume thru the exhaust is directly proportional to rpm, but I'm just guessing. Thanks for opinions. Hope to hear from a fellow V10 with similar sound.

On Monday you will have it checked by the ford dealer not the rv dealer that sold it to you right?
I had a hum at 60 mph last time out and traced it to the engine compartment hood not being locked down. It was not consistent but was affected by wind direction also

Does it flutter depending on your throttle position? I think your hearing "exhaust flutter". I had the same thing and the ford forums knew just what I was talking about, its just the way the stock y-pipe behaves and isn't a problem. Sure freaked me out as the first time I heard it I was about 800 miles from home.
