Just finished a couple lovely days in Saguaro N.P west section. Stayed at a nice little county park a few miles away. Gilbert Rey Campground. Camped amongst the Saguaro Cactus. Check out my blog posts for more pix and a video.

when we were down there I found it very interesting what the native Americans used the Saguaro for. every thing from hoeing materials to sewing needles. And the trees in AZ used for medicines and housing, fencing. the desert is or has a beauty in it's own right. But you stop and think about the hard life the people had and all they went through. But they did have their little farms to keep them from hunger.

We were down there a few years ago and I love Arizona and the southwest. Hoping to come back soon and if gas prices stay around 3.25 we may try again this summer.

A couple of places worth a visit in the areaThe Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum and Old Tucson. The Desert Museum has a collection of flora and fauna that call the Sonoran desert home. In the wild, you'll never see most of the animals and reptiles until you're too close. There's Pumas and Wolves out there.
And Old Tucson is an outdoor movie studio where most every western you've ever seen, was filmed. John Wayne in Rio Bravo and El Dorado among many more. You can walk right down main street to the jail where John Wayne was sheriff.
Retired and visiting as much of this beautiful country as I can.

We have been to both places and highly recommend them We would go again to Old Tucson next spring when we will be in the area but they close on occasion, for filming.

Saw the old Tuscon buildings from the road in, lucky for my wife I didn't know about the John Wayne movie thing!  I woulda dragged her in there for sure. We had plans to see the Museum, rated Number one thing to do in Tucson, and they have a neat raptor live hunting display but funny enough in such a dry place we woke up to rain, hehe and decided to leave. Maybe next time.

Brings back many good memories. I spent most of my childhood there. The Arizona desert can be a very beautiful place.
