I just picked up my Rat Terrier's Phenobarbitol which she has been taking for 5 1/2 years for seizures. It doubled in price! I Googled and discovered it is suppose to increase in price , yet again. Any idea why?

We noticed the price increase several months ago. Have no idea why, but I suspect that since it is a generic non-patented medication, fewer companies are making it and probably raw ingredients have increased in costs.
Also, part of the costs of the prescriptions is the regulatory costs we as Dr.s have to pay to be able to prescribe controlled substances (that has also doubled), or a pharmacy has to pay to be able to sell it.

Check Costco - they gave me a discount card for pet meds. You do not have to be a member to go to the pharmacy counter. The last 3 years or more, there have been huge increases in lots of meds. YOu can also check some on-line places for pricing.
Whatever hits the fan will not be evenly distributed.
Hey, every dollar helps these days. I forgot, I had gone to CVS to get glaucoma meds for my Sage. They asked if I had AAA. Apparently you can get a discount on SOME meds for dogs with a Triple A card. Unfortunately the drug we needed was not on the list, but it's good to know.
I didn't know about the discount. Who would even think to ask at a pharmacy if you got any discount on animal meds with a AAA card????
