First time posting. We just bought a 5er from a kid who was moving from a permanent rv sight we were looking at. My wife and I were debating wether to leave the hot water heater on all the time or just turn it on when were going to shower or do dish'es. New to posting. Thanks

We turn ours on when we arrive and off when we are leaving. Did it when seasonal and now when we travel.

Just like at home, leave it on unless you have to conserve for some reason.

We normally only need hot water once or twice a day. We turn it on a little before we need it. No reason to waste LPG.

Hi,
Welcome to RVnet!
If the water heater runs on propane it is better to turn it on 30 minutes before a shower, then turn it off. There may be enough hot water left for the rest of the day for hand washing and dishes.
If the water heater is electric and propane, and electricity is included with site rental, leave it on the electric only setting.
If you are paying for the electricity, then I'd turn it on with both propane and electric 30 minutes before the shower--then turn it off.

I turn mine on when I arrive and off when we leave..When it gets hot the burner shuts down until the water cools down then fires back up. The propane it uses is minimal

Hi,
A ten gallon heater will cycle, if no water is drawn off, about every four hours and run time is about 15 minutes. Run time to fully warm the tank is about 30 minutes. Leaving it on will use far more propane, than turning it on when hot water is needed.

While it may seem obvious to say, only run the water heater when using the camper and have water in the tank.
