I've had this issue with our "08" Silverado Dmax/Allison since it was new and I was wondering if anyone else has/had this issue. These trucks have a small fuel tank to begin with (26 Gals.) Problem is that our fuel tank still has 6 or 7 gallons of fuel left when the gauge hits the Empty mark and the low fuel light comes on and the truck will only take 14, 15 gallons of fuel. Now I use the DIC gallons used instead of the gauge and it works our very well. I was just wondering if this was a problem with my truck or does anyone else have this issue?

Interesting to know. Don't see much use for that though as it's more important to know your true fuel level while you're driving down the road. I've had a "99" and a "02" and nether one of those had an issue with the gauge showing true, however those were both gasser's and our current truck is a diesel. I'll have to give that a try the next time she needs fuel.

My 08 DMax is the same way. It is annoying, but I just set the DIC to gal used and run it down from there.

I have the 06 Dmax, and I pulled out the stock tank and had a 52 gallon Titan tank installed. I use the DIC to monitor the fuel used. The stock tank is way too small for towing. I can tow for 8 hours before needing to fuel up.

After a little while, it seems like the DIC has figured out that there's a bigger fuel tank. Best mod. that I've made to the truck.

There is a simple re-calibration for the fuel gauge. Check Google, bet you could find something.

Mine is the same way, also just use the gals. used.

On the Duramax diesel foreum some say it is a built in safety feature to encourage you to fill up before running out of fuel since it is harder to restart a diesel.

That is done on purpose. Have you ever run a diesel completely out of fuel?. It is not a fun place to be in. Trying to get the fuel system bled out can be a real hassle. Especially along side the road. Your beat option is to replace the factory fuel tank with an aftermarket lager one.

Nope I've never ran out of gas or fuel. I fill my truck up after each use. and all my vehicles at 1/4 tank. I guess driving a fire apparatus for 25 years ruined me. I could see why the factory would do this though. priming the the engine after running our of fuel would be a real pain. It's bad enough reaching in there to prime the filter after changing it. It's not a big deal I've gotten use to just running off the gallons used. I was just wondering if my truck was an odd ball or if they all were like that.

I figure to each their own, but I'd rather push my Chevy rather than drive a Fiat. :-)
