we took our kiwi 23B to the blue ridge mountains. great towing, great vacation, great campground...more later in other places...
a good bit of rain.
discovered water leaking towards the forward portion of the slideout couch. suspect it comes from the seal. the leak stopped when i rolled the slide in. water ran along the bottom of the couch and toward the wooden base of the dinette. not a lot, but enough to get the wood and the carpet moist. a bigger problem if it persists over time, i would imagine...
the trailer was not 100% level, with slight tilt allowing for water of the slide to run towards the forward portion of the seal...at first i thought that it had to do with the fact that the seal edge did not flip out on its own along the forward portion while moving the slide out. but it continued after correcting that.
the trailer is new. if it possible to identify the actual leak, how big a deal will it be to correct? new seal? will it ever really get fixed? is it expected if the trailer is not completely level? do slide topper awnings help? should i just get one of those, to avoid debris on the slide anyways?
any advice?

maroua,
Two different issues here. First, insist that your dealer fix the leak. A new trailer should not leak. It could be just a simple adjustment of the slide mechanism or a seal replace.. either way, have it fixed.
Second, I like slide toppers. They do a good job of keeping debris off the roof of your slide and thus from being brought inside when you retract the room. They are not a fix for a leaking slide.
Hi - I just found this board today and am so glad I did! We just purchased a 2003 Jayco Eagle Cove 38' Park Trailer. We are having the same water leak problem, except in our bedroom slide out. The trailer is on a permanent site, and we paid extra to have the dealer set it up, just to avoid any such problems - leveling, etc. Well, this has been ongoing since April 23rd of this year, and has yet to be resolved. They have readjusted the slide out twice now and still can't find where or why it is leaking. Jayco has now come up with some sort of "fix" - installing some kind of drip edge on both sides of the room to lead the water the other direction - although the camper is level! I'm at my wits end with this, so I can totally relate to you. I'd love to talk to you more about this.
NC has had an extremely wet spring and summer. It rained every day the first six times we took out our new camper. Our carpet near the back corner of the slide got wet every time we went out. Between trips our dealer worked on the slide and nothing he did helped. When we finally camped and it didn’t rain, we were greatly surprised awaken to find wet carpet! Turned out that we had a loose hose clamp on a water line that was spraying water. Once that was fixed, zero problems …. Have no way of knowing if this applies to your situation but might pay to check if they can find nothing wrong with you camper’s slide seal …. Jim
Have the dealer fix it. With the trailer level, the slide roof should be such that water is not channeled toward the seals. It may be a matter of adjusting the slide mechanism to insure this.

Did it get wet while parked or when pulling? Pulling on wet roads and rain can get in around lower seals if they are not sealing well. Could be adjustment of bad seals. Insist the dealer fix it!!!! olstuf
Get a ladder and plumb line, put out the slide out and then climb up on the ladder and check that the slide out roof is level. Our slide out warped (bowed) in the middle, the top was not contacting the seals and water RAN into the trailer. It has been at the dealer for a month now, is a 2003 model used only 2.5 months.
Get an appointment with the dealer right away and get this looked at. You may want to mention to them to look for warping.......may not be as unusual as I would like to believe.
Gulfstream RV advertises that they reinforce their slideouts to prevent warping that is problematic with other companies slide outs. Kudos to Gulfstream for addressing and heading off an expensive problem for RV owners.
We have also had a significant amount of rain here in Connecticut this year! Unfortunately, our leak is definitely from the outside elements, due to the fact that literally as soon as it starts to rain if you wait about 15 minutes or so the carpet will get damp. It starts in the far corner of the slide out and runs forward toward the box of the trailer. Again, the dealer has had three different service techs out to check things and nothing can be detected as to the source of the leak. We are getting to the point where we are ready to trade this trailer in, even though it was my "dream" trailer at the time of purchase. We upgraded from a 1989 26' Prowler, which we owned for 9 years and never had any problem with! Also, the new Jayco has had so many other issues - 1st weekend of use, the bypass valve coming out of the water heater under the kitchen cabinet sprung a leak and water was everywhere. Next was the annoying whine every time the water was turned on, which turned out to be the plastic check valve for the city water, which was replaced with a brass one and no more noise! On the hot water tank, the pressure relief valve had to be replaced because everytime the tank would begin to heat up the valve would drip, drip, drip! Two weekends ago a hose under the bathroom sink sprung a leak and had to be replaced. I AM SO SICK OF WATER PROBLEMS - EVERY CAMPERS GREATEST NIGHTMARE! Although the dealer is willing to fix all of these problems, I think it's above and beyond at this point! Also, we asked whether the linoleum, carpet, flooring plywood should all be replaced because of the water issues and we were told by the dealer that this wood is made to withstand water in these amounts. I'm not so sure I agree with that. Granted, it hasn't been flooded, but water is water and it doesn't take much to travel under linoleum and especially to soak through carpet, pad, etc. I just don't know what to do - but I know I'd never buy another Jayco! Thanks for letting me vent - any other info or advice is appreciated.
