Stayed there late last September and loved it. We had a beach site. The only thing I found annoying is that the golf carts never stop, day or night... Seems everyone is too lazy to walk. Other than that we had a great time... There's a wonderful seafood buffet just down the street called "Seafarer". Of course you'll find all kinds of places to eat. We also found the Lazy River enjoyable. Sites were reasonably large but had the water and electric hookups on the right side of the rig... Be sure to have extensions as they may be needed.

Great place to stay. As the other writer said...watch out for the golf carts! Also...stay out in the "beach area" , much better than back in the trees.

We have never been here but after much research, we are booked for a week in August-on the beach. I also met one of the owners at an RV show and he seemed very nice. I wonder how hot it gets in August? Will being near the beach bring cooler air?

We were at Pirateland for the 1st time this April and we loved it. We were almost on the beach. If you get a “back in” site you usually get a 12’ X 10’ pavilion with a picnic table under it. These were great. Many people take a few extra tarps to use a wind blocks on several sides of these structures. Next year I plan on taking a couple of tarps to do the same thing. While the tree area was nice, I can camp in tree areas anytime. Camping near the ocean is rare. I would recommend getting closer to the beach.

We stayed there in April. We did have a couple complaints. As recommended, stay in the beach area. Those sites seemed to have more room. We reserved a lakeside site. They knew our rig size and we were coming in around 10:00 p.m. The site was way to small for our MH and you had to back in between 2 trees. Not very fun to do in the dark. We had to move the next morning because of the site size. And you couldn't even see the lake from this site. We were also supposed to get a 10% Good Sam discount. For some reason, they could not get the discount right. This was 2 people. The receipt was a mess. When I got the Visa bill later that month I discovered they still did not give me the discount. Here we are in June and I still have not gotten the discount. It will end up costing me more to continue making long distance phone calls. We met another family recently that had a similar experience with the site size.

We are regulars at Lakewood which is next door to Pirateland...Pirateland is a nice place, and I suspect you will especially like the covered tables as it is an additional shelter to the heat. Also, you will be but a short walking distance to the state park and a wonderful fishing pier.
The golf carts are a pain in the butt in all three campgrounds in South MB...If you get a site off the beaten track, you will find it a bit better.
The beaches are great and not overly populated. If your area appears to be crowded, you need only walk north to the beaches in front of the residental areas...they tend to be vacant.
For shopping, if you head down the 544 you will find a Wallmart super store...

Just came back from Ocean Lakes in Myrtle Beach, SC. I would rate the campgrounds as follows: Ocean Lakes, Lakewood, Pirateland. I rate this on appearance of the campground and friendly staff. Stay clear of using Route 544, there is still construction going on after a year and you will be caught in traffic at a stand still for a very long time. I would also suggest express check-in so you will not have to wait in line like at an amusement park.

We stayed at Pirateland three years ago before we owned a camping unit. We rented one of their RVs. We really enjoyed staying there. The beach was very nice and i enjoyed getting up early in the morning to walk around the campground and then watch the sun come up over the water. It was beautiful.

Mike, I was told that Pirateland is only a Good Sam campground in the off season. They would not give a discount during peak season, they stay booked during the summer so why offer discounts!
