I was at the Eastern Idaho State fair over the weekend, and they had a truck pull event. After the event, the MC said they had something special for us. They got a new 2003 4 door Ram with the Cummins, and a new 2003 4 door Duramax, and a new 2003 4 door Powerstroke from local dealers. They were bone stock. They hooked up the Duramax up first and it pull the sled about 230 ft. The Powerstroke was next and it pulled the sled a full pull, but stopped at the line as it bogged down. Then the Ram with the mighty Cummins went last after the other trucks had tore up the track, it not only made a full pull, but crossed the line at about 30-40 mph. The MC said "That should settle any further arguments as to what truck is the best puller. I guess I have the wrong truck, I own a Duramax." I was very impressed. I have the "old" 24 valve, with a 330 HP 700 lb torque Cummins.

I guess thats OK if your pulling sleds. I have an 03 duramax and would never go back to the Dodge. I thought it was great until Chevs and Fords were passing me on hills. Not so with the Duramax, Love it and the comfort, power, looks and towing the 5er.

Whether someone passes you on a hill means nothing except he has his foot deeper into his motor than you have in yours. Or his trailer is lighter, or his truck is geared different, or he has a buttload of MODs you don't, or he had more momentum built leading up to the grade. In essence, it means nothing. Or it could mean everything. Who really cares?

I have a Cummins HO 2500 4X4, '04, with the 48RE and I'll run with a Duramax or Powerstroke as long as I want to. To me it really doesn't matter. I bought what I like and I went with the motor with the best reputation and history of reliability - in MY opinion.

We can argue all day as to who has what and which can beat which. I can point out my motor's strengths and your motor's weaknesses and then you can do the same. In the end you enjoy driving what you drive and I enjoy driving what I drive and all is well.

I believe the stock Cummins did what is stated because of the low-end grunt the motor produces. Then again I own a DODGE CUMMINs and I'm biased. Personally I think the front of the new Chevy looks like smashed ass, but that's me. Others love it..

They're all good trucks and we use them for their intended purpose - to pull stuff. Yours is better than mine and mine is better than yours and in the end the bottom line should be that we're all satisfied with what we drive. Beyond that it's smoke, mirrors and testosterone...

I'm so tired of the "I'll never go back to DODGE/CHEVY/FORD that I could puke. Give me a break.

Y A W N ......

And the point is... if you want to go camping on a sled in an arena, get a Dodge, else a Ford or Chevy will do just fine!

My poor little 'ole under powered, under torqued Duramax hauls my 13,000 fiver all over the place, flat lands and mountains alike with no effort whatsoever. I just hope it never learns that it's really not capable!

I really like my Cummins diesel even though they say I have a 300,000 mile engine and a 30,000 mile body. With a six speed, I can go like I want. I also notice most everyone else can also.
