RE: Tioga Opening

Good news for those of us east of Yosemite. Bad new for me as I'm 2000 miles east. :S X2.. i'm right there with ya brother... I hate the fact it takes me over a two day drive to get to the parks out west.

RE: Must See Suggestions: St. Louis, MO to Sioux Falls, SD

On a trip we took in 2002 we were on the long drive across S.D., we saw a sign with (tractor museum) so we had to stop, what an interesting rest stop it was, they have old tractors, cars, horse drawn equipment, old one room school, and lots of other stuff. for sure a nice break from the steering wheel for a couple hours. I90 Kimball S.D. ex284 and of course Cabelas outdoor store in Mitchel, it's huge.

RE: So what did you do to your Truck Camper today?

fixed my leaky bathroom faucets in my lance one piece bathroom by going through the onboard outside battery box, very simple and easy.

RE: Where are all the Truck Campers ?

I think the big reason you don't see many is that most camping folks think alike, and they haven't tried one on for size, for those of us that have tried everything know to man to camp in, almost all of us have went back to or stayed with the TC, we can go anywhere we want, and if you already need a bigger truck it's the most logical and economical. we all know we can buy a new TT for what we paid for a used TC, we just choose to go this way.

RE: cover for flooring in camper

We had a fitted carpet in our Lance and that will not work for hikers/kayakers, I took it out and rolled it up for safe keeping. I then installed the sticky backed vinyl look alike wood flooring, it looks great and now we have a long runner rug that catches anything we track in, but we also take off our boots outside and carry them in and set them in the shower.

RE: Johnson's Shut-Ins State Park, MO

I imagine you have been the The Buffalo river CG's , that is an awesome place, also I second Sam A Baker S.P. so relaxing and quiet threw the week, but like all river S.P.'s the weekends can get crowded in the school summer vacation months. Dar

RE: Campgrounds with music?

We always try to go to Owensboro KY the last weekend of June for ROMP bluegrass fest, there are around 20 bands and usually 2-3 big names, this year Merle, Carolina Chocolate Drops, Punch Bros, among others. kinda pricy, but it's for 3 days and camping (no hook-ups) $115 per person. some good food, and showers available. RE: Do I really need a Dually?

I agree with this ^^^^^^ fuel is more $$ than gas, but diesel with get a little better MPG, the diesel holds twice the oil, so an oil change is more $$ but you don't to change as often if your truck burns clean, the extra pulling power IE torque is worth a lot to me. ok so you have to buy 6 tires instead of 4, and the engine on some of the older diesels is loud, and some of the repair bills are astronomical with some of the newer stuff. I have been on both sides of the coin with a gas tow rig and a diesel tow rig, the last time I pulled with my gas truck I said to my self ( I will never own another gas truck, and I have held true, but I farmer and tow some heavy things so I mite be a little bias.

RE: 14 years of RVing going tent camping!

We also tent camp while kayaking, and I hope to soon be tent camping while on looong extended multi week hiking trips, now that the kids are all gone. the only thing that is a must for me is, when we do tent camp I want to be in the boondocks without another person within miles. like mentioned already, good sleep mat and bag are a must, you don't even need a tent if you have an 8x8 tarp, string, and a stick, but a tent is nice for the skeeters. sleep well. RE: Do I really need a Dually?

I guess it's according to how much and what type of camping you are going to do, if your going to use it 3-5 times a year and only in campgrounds then it's a toss up, but if your planning on keeping it for some extended trips and maybe some off the beaten path trips on curvy hilly roads and such for me there would be no problem making up my mind....the DRW will be much more stable. I have an 03 lance 1071/slide the tag says 3,600 dry, I first had it on a SRW but quickly realized I really did need a DRW with some suspension mods. I'm not one of the guys that says, " heck I don't even know it's back there.
