RE: Replacing Atwood Lp gas control unit

I redid all the fittings with new teflon tape to be sure of having a good seal. Double checked all. Turned on gas did all the proper steps. Now I cant even get the pilot to light. The heat did melt the plastic heat adjustment and gas pilot and off and on switch. They still turn, just warped. I guess something internal may have have been damaged?? Trying to save $$.

RE: Replacing Atwood Lp gas control unit

Well I got it out. What fun! The new one went in fine, it was a replacement for the old White Rodgers unit and much easier to work. but it fired right up. But the thermo coupler gas tube dont fit as good as the old one did to the gas inlet. Mainly the sliding air adjustment that goes to the gas inlet. I left the pilot on and went inside and came out and there was a small fire which I blew out and turned off the gas. I was sure that all fittings were sealed for leaks but I guess not. Any suggestions? I would hate to torch off the motor home. Thanks Gary

RE: Norcold not cooling in motion

There was a recall on Norcold that I saw in one of the forums. My 94 model works great driving on lp or 110, it was built before the recall. A friend just got a new one on his motor home because of this

RE: Replacing Atwood Lp gas control unit

Thanks Bud I think the copper themo bulb is still in there, It broke with 3/4 inch of steel pipe out and I have tried the pipe wrench and drilling into the steel. The age of the unit probably and what corrosion has happened over the years has welded it in tight. I will get a hacksaw in there and try that

Replacing Atwood Lp gas control unit

I am having a heck of a time trying to replace the gas control on this tank. It wont come out. I have a new control. I wrenched it and the old unit broke. I cant get the thermo. out of the tank. Aluminum tank with iron pipe treaded in. Its the original 94 unit. In my 94 Itasca Passage Any ideas besides a new water tank, which may be the next process. Its a G6A7 pilot only 6 gallon tank. Any help is appreciated. My wife needs her hot water Thanks Gary and Carol
