RE: Are COE Campgrounds affected by the "Sequestration"?

Thanks to all who responded constructively. It seems there is always an element who either object to the fact that you ask a question or try to politicize it. One of the reasons many folks have left the forum.

Are COE Campgrounds affected by the "Sequestration"?

We are planning a trip for mid May to Mid June through KS, NE, SD, ND, etc and are planning to stay in several COE campgrounds. Is there any info available as to their being affected by the "Sequestration"?

RE: Trip to Charlotte Nc

If you want to travel Interstates take I85 south from Charlotte and then I26 west to I40 west all the way to Nashville. You will pass through the Appalachians on I40 with some grades and curves but just take your time and follow the speeds for trucks etc. As an alternate to I85 pick up US 74 west of Charlotte and take that to I26. Shorter distance and much nicer drive.

RE: Used Garmin GPS

The problem with ipad or iphone is that if you don't have a signal you don't have a map program.

RE: Smokey Mountains - Day Trip Ideas

Most of the Smokies hikes are on the steep side so crutches would be a problem. Clingman's Dome is worth the walk but again a very steep path, although paved. Check out the NPS web site for more specific info. At present there is a major wash out from a land slide that took out a large section of 441 It may take months to repair it. If 441 is open take the trip through the park to Cherokee. A bit touristy but fun.

RE: Smokey's between Christmas and New Years

Keep in mind that bad weather will close 441 and you will not be able to go through the park.

RE: Sandy Damage? Rodanthe, NC

If you have access to Facebook go to Oregon Inlet Idiots. They have a ton of photos and info. Or one of these web sites http://obpa-nc.org/ http://ncbbaonline.com/ Len

RE: Air Conditioner Covers

Take the filtercover off and see if you can get a model or serial number. Then go to the Dometic site and you should be able to determine the specific model. It worked for me!

RE: tropical storm outer banks

I lived in Kill Devil Hills for five years. If you get 40+ winds you will be very unhappy in a 17' trailer. Be safe.

RE: Full Length Queen Mattress

We replaced ours and did not extend the plywood and had no problems. The main thing to watch for if you choose to extend the wood is to make sure you have enough clearance at the bottom of the bed so you are not scraping against it every time you go by.

RE: Appalachian Trail

Because of it's location, basically along the spine of the Appalachians, you will not find a lot of close campgrounds to the trail. The Blue Ridge Parkway has several but they are closed from late fall until spring and they have no hookups. The trail is almost 2200 miles long so you might just want to download their brochure and see where you can meet up with the hiker and then look for campgrounds. Good Luck!

RE: RV Mortgage Interest Deduction; Are we going to lose it?

Gee this wouldn't be a political statement would it? Chicken little the sky will fall if we don't elect your party?

RE: Propane Refills?

Since there are two, I find it more convenient to remove the empty after switching over and then take it to be refilled. You could take the trailer to a propane station and have them fill it there if you wish.

RE: Maryland Fort Frederick State park

All you have to do is check their web site. They have 29 "unimproved" sites that have a fire ring and picnic table. Generators can usually be operated until 8PM.

RE: Johns Hopkins

I was with the Baltimore PD for 25 years. Hopkins is a fantastic hospital but it is not in the best part of town. Use their parking facilities etc. and be cautious in the areas around the facilities.

RE: Route to Kitty Hawk NC

If you are using I95 when you get to Baltimore you MUST take the Key Bridge as gas bottles are not allowed in the tunnels. An alternate route after you cross the Key Bridge is to take I97 toward Annapolis. Watch for MD 3, take MD 3 and it will blend into US 301. Continue south on 301 into VA to US 17. Turn left on US 17 to I 64 just north of Hampton Roads and continue on to the Outer Banks. Check this route out on the map. It avoids Washington, D.C. which can be chaotic at best.
