RE: Supplier for Outrigger??

Lippert Components

But gauge thickness may not be adequate IMO to prevent future problems.
Thanks mapguy, had not found that store yet. And I agree, the design for the outriggers does not seem compatible with the WW needs. I'll keep looking around.

RE: Supplier for Outrigger??

Thanks Nayther, that will be a last resort but I didn't think about a local sheet metal shop, there are a few. Also an opportunity to over design, maybe at 10ga. I really don't want them to bend anymore.

Supplier for Outrigger??

Finally getting to some of those dangling projects, trying to finish a wheel well rebuild and wall support project. I'm working on a photo library I will share soon in case anyone wants to see just how poor structural decisions can come back to bite the people who buy your products.
My question is: Does anyone know of someplace that actually HAS the Z Outriggers used to support the walls? I've looked in a lot of places and have not found anyone who sells them yet, calling a couple more today. I need roughly 14 of them. Current ones are spaced 44 inch on center, I'm going to cut that number in half most places.
Thanks!

RE: Greenball Tires, and my Nightmare...

AzPyroGuy - Thanks for the feedback, please keep it coming. I am in a similar scenario, blowouts on 4 of 7 with 3 that I can't trust and will have to replace out of pocket. Discount replaced two of the blowouts with the new Carlisle and I'm curious how well they hold up. Before I come out of pocket for the remaining 3 in about 2 months (after rebuilding the wheel well, internal wheel well box and the wall) I'd love to hear more on the new Carlisle design and longevity. From a cost prospective it's cheaper to replace ST tires every 3 years (one time cost) than step up to the 16" but if they won't last 3 years I will have to consider other options. Buying $3500 worth of rims and tires (I would need 7) isn't an option for me this year.

RE: Tires on 15in. Rim

Rims are between $50 and $150 each, tires are $150 to $190 each. Call it $200 per tire once it's mounted. So maybe $300 times the number of tires you need plus or minus the amount of bling you want on the rims. There are some pretty rims out there.

RE: Anybody rig up an outside projector and screen?

Best one I have seen yet was a 8 foot by 10 foot PVC frame with a light beige canvas strapped to it. The heavier fabric was wind proof and they strapped it to a Rhino with bungies. You can also add paint (spray application is best) to the canvas to increase it's weight if it moves too much. This makes it portable and easy to store (big trash bag for the folded up screen to protect it from dirt)
Projector was on a table at the end of some long cables. Some outdoor speakers and a home style sound system made it very theater like.
We dry camp in the middle of the desert, neighbors are not a problem. When the fights are on we charge anyone walking up a couple of bucks to cover the Pay-Per-View and satellite charges (unless they bring extra beer).

RE: Another tire question.

Any discussion on side load issue re: LT tires? My drive is really twisty (HWY 78/79/78 in SD County is my normal drive). I'm loaded at about 2000 per tire so have to find something designed for that weight.
My story, lost 4 tires in the last 2 tows (of 6), all due to age. GB Transmaster, E rated, plenty of tread but 4 years old. General consensus seems to be that they are really only good for 3, then replace them. At $96 a tire that's a viable option but I would like others. IN other words $1k every 3 years is a better option for me than $3k every 6 years for commercial grade tires.

RE: Oil Pressure Gauge

Have you checked http://www.thedieselstop.com/? They are dedicated to Ford Diesel trucks.
I can't imagine there isn't multiple monitors keeping an eye on pressure, even if they are not telling you about it. I know my 6.0 has numerous fail safes and indicators that would let me know if anything was below spec.

RE: fuel tank vent

Most toyhaulers have nothing sophisticated like vapor recovery but it's easy to look underneath and check. Mine has a single fuel line going forward to the generator. In that case the cap should be vented but they are cheap and sometimes fail. A small hiss would be normal, they are not a completely open vent. I would recommend a new cap as they are not really serviceable.

imagine this without one.Ouch!
That's not a helmet problem, it's a belt problem. If you have not changed that stupidly dangerous 3 point belt for a 4 or 5 point belt, do it now!!! And then wear it, he was moving around ALOT for someone wearing a belt.

RE: Would You Rather Tow a Bumper Pull or 5th Wheel to Alaska

Haven't heard it mentioned yet but the word "road" is somewhat loosely interpreted in Alaska. Asphalt and frequent grading are optional. Given that I would lean towards the 5th wheel, I have gotten my trailer (and truck) stuck before and the bumper pull adds some difficulty to that scenario. Might also take a look at how well armored the front is, gravel roads are common.

RE: 2003 Weekend Warrior FS3000

In my experience it's normal to have a little draw into a semi when next to them as well as a push once you break past them. I just move away a bit in my lane before getting side by side to make sure that there is enough room for that to happen and still keep us apart. For sure there is a little "wag the dog" that occurs on a bumper pull trailer that size. Same thing can happen with a strong crosswind but that actually causes you to turn into the wind (long trailer has more area in front of the axles). It's a slight movement at highway speed that isn't going to be controlled by anti-sway but with a semi right there it "feels" a little scary.
Important thing I have found is to calm down and do NOT try to anticipate and counter a wiggle. You will always be late and make the wag worse. Just drive the truck and ignore those little wiggles, the anti-sway will settle them out. I have 1 friction style anti-sway installed and have never wished I had a second installed but you can have a second installed.
One thing to mention, if you get it out of balance (not enough in the back, too much up front, like with nothing in the hauler and the water tanks empty) I have had it get VERY wiggly. Easiest way to fight that was to put water in the water tanks. In mine it's two 75 gallon tanks, 1 over and 1 slightly behind the axles. I don't tow it empty often and when I do I make sure to move what I can to the back of the trailer.
No idea why the previous owner cut the hose but it is really short on mine, maybe 3 feet. Could be he was trying to think of a way to make it longer.

RE: New owner of WW FS3400

Welcome to the forum!
There is a ton of information in this forum on modifications, no need to limit to your model.
I've had mine since new, here is the list. Short, it's mostly just worked.
.Installed 8 feet of angle iron at the bottom of the wall behind the wheel well, poor construction.
.Installed (2) 6v batteries.
.Installed a solar charging system, currently a free standing 4 panel unit that I put out to face the sun.
Plans (when time/money allows)
.Flip the axles to gain clearance between water tanks and axles.
.Rip open the wheel well and figure out why that wall is moving.

RE: 2003 Weekend Warrior FS3000

There is no manual for the trailer, think of it as a box that holds lots of individual parts. I received a booklet that holds all of the individual manuals for each of the components (refer, heater, stove...). Sort of like a house, there is no "one manual to rule them all".
Pretty much all of the MFR manuals are available on the internet if you do a search for the MFR and model number. And of course you can search this forum, there are a number of us that have WW's. If it's something new we can answer questions or help you find information.
Welcome!

RE: UTV's and helmets

OK, if you were looking anyway maybe I can see it being a consideration. Buddy in my group got a long travel Manx (SP?) with a Subaru motor (2.5l, light turbo). Has seating for 5, robust cage, long travel and similar open feel that the RZR has. For sure if I wanted something to seat more than two that type of car is a contender. No idea of the exact cost because it was a trade plus cash but it was in the $20-$25k range, same as the new XP 4's. He's really digging it because the kids can come and it has heated seats (it's been a cold winter).

RE: UTV's and helmets

First, I can't imagine that the legislation of a helmet would cause me to move to a bigger cage, one of the things I really like about the RZR is it's size. Nothing else that small and light and cheap out there. Yes, I said cheap, have you ever priced long travel suspension for a buggy or car? I routinely get my RZR into places too small for a jeep or buggy. I get my motorcycle into even smaller canyons, sometimes with less than 3" of clearance past the bars.
Don't get me wrong, I don't think Ca needs more legislation and I think this law is stupid. But if the lawmakers keep at it they will get ALL off road vehicles included. Then it won't matter what you are driving.
I don't know anyone who likes this law but you might be alone in thinking the solution is to move to a bigger cage.

RE: ROAD CONDITIONS

The graded roads in and through the SVRA are all hard pack and you can drive them no problem. Once off the roads the dirt is primarily loose gravel and sand, you will most likely be OK. If you have any problems at all just reduce air pressure in your tires to something closer to 18-20psi.
Been going there for 25 years in every kind of car made, I've never been stuck and have only pulled out 2 people in the entire time using my 4x4. Yes, even the 1976 TransAm made it to our camping spots.
If you have never been there before either stop by the Ranger station or ask a ranger for a map, there a road signs at the major wash intersections, makes it tough to get lost until it gets dark.

RE: Talked to Highway Patrol Truck officers about 26,001# CDL

I have a one ton dodge dually that I use for work and pleasure, it has my business logo's, names and phone numbers all over it.
I am planning a personal trip to Pasadena, Ca over the holidays, I wonder if I need to peal off all my logos and stuff?
They cost about $700 to have installed.
My truck is registered in my personal name.
What do you think?
No way, you will be fine. If you are really worried you can use a 3x5 card, write "Not for Hire" on it and put it on the side window of the truck. As long as it's clear that you are not doing it for pay (ie "commercially") you should be fine. Oh, and I'm a life long resident of Ca and this is just my opinion.

RE: I hope he gets charged...

Not quite enough fact in the story to form an opinion other than sympathy for the boy's family. Certainly I agree, I would provide all the help I could and would not leave someone like that, never have and never will. Doesn't matter what happens to my day.
But without full information it's possible that the 40yr old had a head injury that impacted his memory. I've seen it many times, picked someone up from the trail, dusted them off, rode another few miles and had them ask "how did we get here and how come my head hurts". No recollection of the crash or the 5 minutes on either side.

RE: Sping loaded rear gate is to light?

You can still drag the cooler, even when it's 150+ pounds of ice and beer. The other good thing about using the cooler is it attracts guys in your camp who can help move heavy things for said beer...
