RE: Dometic Refrig keeps cutting out.

Those have had bad thermocouples. It is easy to test- with the flame lit, it needs to produce over 16 millivolts, and should be putting out around 30. Of course, it needs to be positioned in the flame, as well:)

RE: New window in door The best !

That *is* a regular window in the door- it's just made to standard size, and is a bit cheaper than normal windows.

RE: Running AC off of my home's current/Please Respond

The only issue that can cause damage is low voltage, period. Buy a plug in volt meter, plug it in to the rig, see what the voltage is with the A/C running. Anything above 110 volts is fine (well, 220 volts is not fine, but....).

RE: Recording OTA broadcasts

While it certainly is not for most, the rise of ultra low cost computers makes building a PVR pretty inexpensive (in the $100 range). I've been fooling around with a Raspberry Pi (a $35 single board computer with very good graphics), but I have also been looking at the BeagleBoard, and many people have used a $40 Pogoplug which is actually a single board computer, and will run Linux (as do all of the above).
A bit dodgey to get configured, but once that is done, they will run rock solid.

RE: Ice cream stays soft. Wonder why?

Keep it against the back wall of the freezer, which is the coldest part.
FWIW, the 0 is pretty easy for absorption models to reach- the temperature of the ammonia is -44 in a properly charged system.

RE: Dometic RM2652 fridge flue cleaning

The only time I have had to clean a flue is when the flame was burning so bad the flue was covered in soot. Even though the flame looks good, it doesn't take much to make it not work. Clean the orifice and check the pressure with a manometer.

RE: Power Awning?

I greatly prefer the Carefree Eclipse for power models simply because you can easily adjust the pitch. Carefree fabric is actually heavier than Dometic (though I like the Dometic manual hardware better).

RE: Will RG6 improve my RG59 signal on my 5er

While the importance of good connectors has been mentioned, properly stripping the cable for the connector is very important as well- stripping with a razor knife will usually nick the center conductor. Because of the skin effect, this will cause serious degradation of the signal.

RE: dometic fridge intermittent

It sounds like a bad heating element. The check light is only for LP operation, indicating ignition failure.

RE: Air in propane line

It is perfectly normal. Solenoid LP valves seal in one direction only, and do not seal perfectly even in that one direction- there is an allowable leak rate for the valves- the no drop in 3 minutes standard is because any leak smaller than that is insignificant. Add to that the fact that a small change in temperature will make a difference in the pressure in the lines, the pressure in the lines can be below atmospheric.

I guess my badly made point is you need to figure out what is wrong- that is not at all normal, and fix the problem rather than jury rig a band-aid.

RE: Grid tie inverter with power outage capability

The "gaf" with the system I linked to is each panel has its own "micro"inverter, and puts out 240 watts of 240 volts a.c.

RE: Grid tie inverter with power outage capability

The grid tie system I have been looking at is this 10kw system- a complete system with the inverters integral to the solar panels. at just under $20k for everything including hardware it's looking better.
Our peak energy use has only been a bit over 12kw- this is residence and shop.
I do not believe this system I am looking at will work sans utility power though.

RE: Dometic Refrig keeps cutting out.

Do you have a thermocouple? Most Dometic models do have one, but quite a few use an ignitor on the board- these are pretty reliable though.
A model number would help.

RE: Ouch ! obsolete oven parts are expensive !

Go to the hardware store and buy a 3/8" male flair plug and just disconnect the range for the time being. It's something to keep in the junk drawer in any case.

RE: Can't find thermostat on fridge

If you look inside the box on the right hand fins, you can see the sensor in a white plastic clip- move this up for colder, down for warmer.

They have banned mercury in motor vehicles, so the parts are nla. There is a company- http://www.erepco.com/ which rebuilds controls like these.

RE: Air Conditioner Issues

I would carefully look at the installation- I would bet that air is recirculating inside the ceiling assembly, causing the short cycle.
I will just quote myself-
