RE: Stuck with Rude Neighbors Argh...

Revenge is sometimes a dish best served, NEVER. In a few days you won't even be thinking about tonight. Just let it be. In my younger, more stupid days...we were staying in a condo at a large ski area and some idiot had parked in a no-parking spot that infringed on OUR assigned space so badly that the driver had to let all of us out first; then he had to climb out the rear door. I wrote with my finger "learn to park" in the dirt on their back window...... As we pulled out the following day to leave, we saw that THEY had scrawled " **** YOU!" with a key down the side of our brand new van. Yeah - that was a very expensive lesson in "tolerance".

RE: Question for Dr. Doug

Did Maggie just get vaccinated? The reason I ask: Jimmy's kidneys enlarge when he gets his shots. Stays that way for a bit (a couple of weeks), then goes back to normal. The rabies vaccination seems to cause it more than the 5-way. And it's way different than the way a lipoma (fat tumor) feels; doesn't move around, of course...LOL! Oh my gosh! That would scare the begeebers out of me. Can you take Titres and skip some of the vaccinations? It's "just Jimmy". My Vet said it's actually a sign that his body is doing what it should when vaccinated? Doesn't seem to bother him in the least. I AM glad that we only have to do the rabies every 3 years...

RE: Just passing along some prayers for the midwest

But what makes me proud, is the Oklahoma Standard. You cannot believe the things that people are donating. One store donated 1,000 pair of shoes, CVS is helping people get their prescriptions, people who have cancer and need treatment are getting help. Pizza Hut is walking down the street giving people pizzas, churches all over town are providing food and shelter. Animals, pets, horses etc are being treated at triage units. And THIS is exactly why Moore will rebuild. The Heartland has a LOT of "heart". Keeping everyone affected in my prayers.

RE: Just passing along some prayers for the midwest

I wonder if they will rebuild those homes or finally come to the conclusion that it's not a good idea That can be said for a lot of areas, like coastlines (hurricanes and tsunamis); major rivers (floods); seismic areas (earthquakes) - ALL of which suffer much more damage than what a tornado produces. Not to minimize the pain and suffering in Moore - just trying to explain why they will probably choose to rebuild and stay. The biggest tornadoes destroy maybe 15-20 square miles; most do MUCH less damage. Hurricane Sandy devastated the entire eastern seaboard; but I don't read about people being told it's not a good idea to live in Boston....

RE: Moore OK Tornado dog found during news interview

Glad I've got a box of Kleenex handy - that was so sad/happy! A little ray of sunshine in a horrible, HORRIBLE event....

RE: Unwanted guests, lets hear your story....

Some people/kids just don't have the ability to be intuitive about things, like sitting in a chair that belongs to someone else. Likewise - they will not find it offensive if you simply say "hey X, I have a sore foot and need my chair" and say it in a firm-but-friendly tone.

RE: Widows continuing to RV by themselves

I'm not a widow - but would continue to RV if I was one. Besides the Open Roads Singles; there's also Meetup.com Go to their website, and enter an "interest" - and your zip code, and it will let you know if there are any groups near you. I just spent last weekend camping/paddling with 27 other kayakers - we are all members of a local Meetup group; had a wonderful time!!

RE: Taking advantage of the stupid!

Just saw a Jeep commercial for a large dealer in a nearby city. Buy a Jeep, make low monthly payments, Month 75 is a Balloon payment! You gotta be kidding! It's brilliant marketing, actually, because they'll talk you into trading in for a new Jeep to avoid that balloon. If you just made nice equal payments and paid it off - you might be inclined to buy a Chevy or Ford the next time around...

RE: Seems like they all do this

I just sold my Escape Limited, which had a lot of goodies - but of course came with leather seats. I covered the leather seats with nice after-market seat covers....

RE: Dogs welcome in Yellowstone??

Also - Yellowstone's elevation tends to keep things coolish. We had no problem finding shady spot to park and car and leave the dogs (to go eat, for example).

RE: Does stress itch??

Jack is off the prednisone and doing OK! We went back to the Vet for a checkup, and she was guessing he reacted to the load of pollen we're experiencing...OR.... the night that Jack had his itchy relapse - Ed had been feeding him bits of red licorice. So Jack is on a "no-color diet"....LOL!!

RE: What do you think about having to have a Prescription

I'm guessing that there's something in it that alters the animals "chemistry"?? And anything that does that would need a Rx

RE: SUV barrier with perpendicular spacer?

You do need a way to get them home or you have to cut them up at the store. We love the tomato cages we made from left over sections; they don't break at the welds when you are putting them/taking them out of the ground, they are heavy duty enough to support the very large (paste) tomato plants we grow, and they don't start rusting after one growing season. My son puts one end in the back of a pickup truck bed, then pushes the other end until it's like half a hoop, and drops it in the back of the bed. Rides just fine like that with a rope thrown over the top...LOL!! Springs back to flat when you take it out. I use a couple of short (maybe 5') sections to keep dogs visiting my house from jumping into the lake and running around the end of the fences; I just anchor the short pieces with T-posts along the shore. A determined dog will have to swim around the end to escape. Mine have been taught to stay in our yard - it's visitors I keep in or out, depending on whose house they're visiting

RE: SUV barrier with perpendicular spacer?

Have you priced wire panels recently? They're a bit more expensive that $20 now and range widely in price based upon wire spacing and diameter. These panels will flex. The cut ends of the panels can cut a dog badly; a friend had her dog's front leg get cut near the elbow and the skin dropped down to the wrist requiring several surgeries. Feedlot Panels The remaining bits of the 16' panel can be used to make very nice tomato cages. Oh - OOPSY! Hog panels cost $20.79 (it's good to live in Michigan, Mark...LOL!) I assumed the OP would cut and file the ends so the dog wouldn't get hurt? Because yes, they're sharp, fresh from the bolt cutter! We used them as upper horse stall partitions, due to their durability and rigidity.

RE: Please put our Chubby on your prayer list. UPDATE

So scary!! Hope you can figure out what triggered it, if that's even possible? Keeping Chubby in our good thoughts!

RE: SUV barrier with perpendicular spacer?

Are you asking for a "T"-shaped thing?? If I was going to make a center divider; I'd probably use something called Hog Panel: it's fence that's stiff enough to be free-standing and you could bend the wires easily enough to loop around a conventional dog barrier? Granted, it would seem silly to buy and entire 16' piece of the panel for one small section; but it's cheap. Less than $20. The other thought would be use one wall of a dog crate (the kind that uses the long pins to hold it together) and zip-tie it to a barrier?

RE: A case for basic trianing

One of our exercises is scent discrimination of metal articles. In competition we use a set of metal dumbbells, but every summer when we do a demo for "story hour" at the local library, I substitute soda cans. I will scent a Pepsi can, place it in amongst5 or 6 Coke cans, and tell the kids that Pippin is going to make the right decision ;) LOL!! Now that's cute!! I guess when I say my dogs don't do tricks, I mean the routine "speak/sit up/shake hands" type things. But they know gobs of words - I can say "let me see your paw" and I'll get one. The best one was Ike who had a HUGE vocabulary (and long fur) - so once in a while, he'd come to the door with an embarrassed face (yes, he could look that way) and I'd ask "do you have poop on your butt?" and he'd turn around for an inspection for "dingleberries"...LOL!! Granted, not a trick - but really helpful before he walked into the house and sat down!
