RE: Question on the check engine light?

"a code for the MAF sensor..."
WHICH code for the MAF sensor is the important question!! It's a specific 4-digit code. There can be several faults that point towards the MAF, with multiple troubleshooting and diagnostic procedures for each depending on how it all checks out. If the mechanic is pulling the code, cleaning the MAF, and sending you on your way, find a competent mechanic post-haste.
Hot air under the hood isn't going to cause a check engine light, or cause the MAF sensor to fail.
Do not change the thermostat unless the engine has been programmed to run at the cooler temperatures. This can cause other issues. 195 isn't all that hot. At 16psi, which most cooling systems run at, water doesn't boil until around 230 (obviously slightly less at higher altitudes). And even if it did, higher than 200 degree temps in the cooling system isn't going to cause a code in the air intake system.
I agree with this post, the code will not specify MAF sensor.
When check engine light came on in my Ford I was told by the mechanic that they needed to replace the MAF senor. I took it to a ford dealer for a second opinion, when I told him what I was told , he said the code will only say that the engine is running lean on the left or right banks or both. Which as stated above could be several reasons for this including MAF sensor. As it turned out my Ford had a vacuum leak on the intake manifold.
You may have a vacuum leak that gets worse when under load thus tripping the code when towing

RE: What would you do?

Thanks for the replys all. I like the truck. It's nothing fancy, just solid and does what we need it to do. I've spent the past few hours looking at trucks online and to be honest, very few trucks that I'd actually be interested in come even close to my budget.
I don't know for sure it needs tranny work. I drove to my families 2 days ago. It's a three hour drive. About 20 minutes from there I was accelerating through a yellow light and my gear slipped. It was very quick and the first time it ever happened. I figure it's only going to get worse. Maybe I'm just jumping the gun.
Anyway, it's something to chew on. I'm scared of payments and debt. Just how I was raised I guess.
I have a 1999 Ford Explorer, when I was driving down the road the rpms would spike ,just for a second and not too frequently either.I took it to a service center and was quoted $2500 for a rebuild Trans. They said it was shot.
I drove it to the Ford dealer for a second opinion, they hooked it up, tested it and a little while later came a told me that they found it was "shifting harshly" but it was fixed for $89.00.They down loaded new software for the transmission. That was 5yrs ago and still on the road no problems.

RE: I am literally frightened

I didn't mention you in my post zuley .
Like I said If you purchase other vehicles ,Boats ,bikes, cars or trucks the salesman does not try to find out if you can handle any of them before he sells it to you. Why is an RV salesman a scumbag if he sells you an rv you can't tow.
people need to take responsibility for their actions not expect others to do it for them.

RE: I am literally frightened

I don't know why people think the RV sales person has a responsibility to make sure that what you are doing is safe.
Did the sales person who sold you your truck make sure that what you you are doing with it is safe?Would he have refused you a sale if he thought so? I don't think so.Have any of you been refused a product(like a chainsaw, table saw, machinery)because the sales person didn't think you would be safe with it?
I'm a Machinist not a sales man, and when I bought cnc machines no one checked to see if I knew what I was doing,if i had proper place to put it or sufficient power for it. I had to find that out by myself (research)
OP I bought my trailer from dealership and have nothing but good to say about them.

RE: Anyone installed a Quickie Flush in a [Jayco] Hybrid?

I installed a turbo flush this summer in my 23B.The black tank is 30 gallons a bit bigger then yours.I installed the flush on the end of the tank by the black and grey tank drains. There is an opening in the frame of the trailer which is big enough to drill through.Yours maybe the same.
The instructions say to install it opposite the drain but I didn't want to take out the tank.It works well there, but I will install another one on the opposite side as the first one(2 in the black tank).

RE: 1990 F250 GVWR/Tow Capacity

Really the only constraints on SAFETY issues is the GVWR and GAWR ratings for the truck. Maximum trailer size and GCVWR are both basically only warranty items. Unless you have a warranty on the truck or exceed those two safety numbers (and are unhappy with the performance) then it's certainly doable.
Gross Combined Trailer Weight Rating is a safety item.
That is how the tow vehicle brakes, etc. are sized.
They are sized so that if there is a failure of the trailer brakes, the tow vehicle brakes are more than adequate to bring the combination to a safe stop under normal circumstances.
My truck Has a 7000lb GVWR and a 14000lb GCVWR , according to my build sheet my brakes are rated for 7000lbs not 14000lbs.

RE: 2007 jayco seals and slide seal

Around the seal it is the same as yours but no drops or mess any where else. The caulking on mine is cracked but I have not had any issues with water leaks.

RE: Black Tank always 2/3 full?

I have one, it is good for seeing if the tank is clean(only clean water coming out but I don't think it cleans as well as an in tank flusher.
I have the Camco RV Tornado Rotary Tank Rinser

RE: Black Tank always 2/3 full?

I had the same issue ,always 2/3 .Last Friday I installed a Turbo flush Kit in the tank (i was at the camp ground) took about an hour. After flushing the tank on Sunday it now reads empty.
Also put in new screen in the door(DOG)and fixed a water leak under the shower tub.
Also check the ground connections for the Sensors.Take the wires off the frame and sand the connections to the frame , grease them before replacing

RE: Upgrading to E-rated tires

I replaced my tires in January to Khumo RoadVenture SAT KL61 113s 265/70r/17
Max Load 2535lbs
Max Psi 51
They run great, very smooth,When towing pump them to 51 psi. When I am not Towing they are at 40psi
You don't need LT tires on your truck for that trailer.
