RE: Custom Portable Propane Soft Tub!

We have that model of hot tub at home.I would think a 12 volt pump wouldn't have the same pumping power as the stock AC pump who's heat that is given off by the pump motor is used to heat the water and keep it warm. It's a simple & very efficient system in it's stock set up. Once the water is heated, it uses little power to operate per month. I would try using it while RV'ing at long term places you will be staying with AC power is you can. Then see if it's worth all the trouble of hauling around before doing a 12 volt pump / propane heating mod.

RE: Do Toad's Really Get Beat Up Back There? Looking at new CR-V

I have no mud flaps on the RV and tow with a dolly. No damage at all to the car. When going thru mountain passes, I've encountered on occasion, lots of grit or fine gravel on the highway that "sand blasted" the paint on the dolly, but the car was fine, no damage.

RE: Switching from 16" to 19.5" tires

pianotuna, a caution, if considering putting larger (wider) tires on your original 16" wheels, the off-set of the wheels in the duel wheel location at the rear may not be enough, resulting the tires touching each other, which could cause tire damage.

RE: Class c ride vs class a gas

We had a 02 31' Ford Class C V10 and went to 05 35' Class A with the Workhorse W22 chassis. We found , from the front seats, both had little or no engine noise while traveling on flat highways, but overall the Class A is quieter with less road & wind noise. I found both handled quite well. We like the Class A better because of the much greater space. We had never used the cab over bunk in the class C except to store stuff. They both had similar gas milage even thought the class A 8000lbs. heavier . We mostly drive at 55mph.

RE: Internet in USA for Canadians

Pay-as-you-go MiFi with T-Mobile and probably others have no activation fees or contracts and a US address is not required. With the T-Mobile MIFI unit I purchased from a US Walmart, I did set up an on-line account to view data usage , days left, etc., but no US address was required. Note: I wanted T-Mobile but found not all Walmarts carried them, so continued to another area then found a Walmart with them in stock with Data cards. The MiFi units are about $100 and you can connect 5 laptops or other devices to them , the "Stick" unit is about $50 & connects 1 laptop to the internet.

RE: Internet in USA for Canadians

Virgin & T-Mobile MiFi are both available at Wal-Mart US and both are pay-as-you-go. T-Mobile has better coverage and is $25 for 1.5 Gb. for 30 days.

RE: In the USA for a month, need a cell phone plan

As Bill.Winegard indicates, check out what's available at Wal-mart in the US. We use a LG Tracfone ($20), then activate with pay as you go time for 90 days ($20) that has the same call rate anywhere in the US and to Canada as well when you use a Tracpone phone # to call back to Canada. Also from Wal-mart US, we picked up a pay as you go T-Mobile MIFI for internet while in the US that also has reasonable rates : $25 for 1.5gb. for 30 days.

RE: Heat Pumps

I found when using our heat pump in close to freezing temperatures the outside heat exchanger of the heat pump would eventually ice up. Then the heat pump operation would shut down and switch to the gas furnace for heating. Unlike residential units, our RV heat has no defrost cycle to melt the ice off.

RE: 7 Eleven's in New Brunswick to buy

Seven Eleven's cell phones are called Speakout, try Googling for info. They use Sim cards and sell the Sim cards separatly as well. Speakout uses the Rogers cell tower system so check the Rogers cell coverage maps. You can buy air time for $25 & is good for 365 days.

RE: burner or tracphone

As others have indicated , Tracfone isn't sold and doesn't work in Canada. A pay as you go phone we use is sold at Seven Eleven stores and is called Speakout. Google for more info , air time starts at $25 & is good for 365 days. They use the "Rogers" cell tower system and I'm not sure of how good coverage is in isolated areas or the current price of the phones. They also sell the Sim card itself($10) to put in a phone that uses Sim cards. I don't think Tracfones use this system. use Sim cards.

RE: Trip to Lake Louise (Alberta)

We spent 1 week in each park last Sept and 1 day at Ice fields. All where great. Tunnel Mtn. CG , great view from most sites of 2 rows on the south side of CG. http://i46.tinypic.com/17vnzq.jpg Icefields CG , dry camping , great view , basically a paved lot. http://i47.tinypic.com/ilyfmh.jpg Lake Louse Trailer CG, all pull thru sites but back to back to a site next to yours. We where ok with this however for our week there. http://i45.tinypic.com/i4iqfm.jpg At Jasper we used Whistler CG and liked it as well. Our site was in an outer ring of sites at far end from CG entrance and was quiet. http://i50.tinypic.com/24xl5z7.jpg

RE: Campgrounds near Minneapolis/St. Paul, MN

We really like Lake Elmo Park Reserve on the east side of the Twin Cities. It's a park with a RV campground(called Modern campground) that has good sized camping sites, hiking trails, paved bicycle trails, swimming, etc. It's maybe 15-20 minutes to Mall of America. However, pets are not allowed. http://www.co.washington.mn.us/index.aspx?nid=502

RE: Changing headlamp bulbs...

HID conversion kits on Ebay are about $32 these days with free shipping inside the US. They use 35 watts of power so no concerns about power used. If the bulb being replaced is also a DRL, then it could be more complicated to replace. I tried Silverstars, which where brighter than standard bulbs, but for me had a shorter life (less than 2 years).

RE: Sylvania silverstar ultra bulbs - worth the money?

I also got fairly short life from Silverstars (12-14 months). I have 9006 & 9005 bulbs on my RV, neither are used for DRL's so I've just ordered HID conversions kits for both bulbs. Typical price on Ebay these days seems to be about $30 to $32 per kit.

RE: I think I'll try 91 octane in my V-10

If that is how it's been since new , it would seen unlikely anything is wrong. However a MAP sensor that is not functioning correctly could cause engine pinging or knocking under slight engine load. Often cleaning the MAP sensor can solve the problem. Be sure to use stock air filters. Oil "vapor" possibly given off by "K & N" type foam air filters can cause the MAP sensor to clog and not function correctly.
