RE: Norcold 6000 Series / I may be losing it

Open the little cover on the flue so you can see the flame. It should be cone shaped and bluish in color. Your problem could be some rust over the burner disrupting the flame. Blowing this area out with some air may solve your problem.
If the flame is yellow in color it needs more air and that is adjusted at the other end of the burner.

RE: Using air brake air nipple to fill bike tires

I top off two bikes each winter without the engine running as my two tanks hold good pressure for about a week. The cheap coiled hose, good dual head air chuck, and quick connect fittings are all you need to keep your tires up too.

RE: Big Lagoon S.P. Fla. to Niceville

His question was about the number of traffic lights... not obstacles. I actually think he'd get better info under roads and routes although we now have "Travels & Favorite Places" under class A.
You will notice I did not suggest that the next post (LA to ID) should have been in roads and routes as his question did pertain to driving a class A (night stops food and fueling) plus he has only been on here of a little over a year.
Guess I'll go back to bed and try getting out the other side. :B

RE: Big Lagoon S.P. Fla. to Niceville

Guess I must have gotten up on the wrong side of the bed as although it always bothers me when people post questions here that should be posted elsewhere... Just because you drive a class A, why not post this under roads and routes? You've been on here for five years.

RE: Detroit Diesel 671 fuel issues

OP, I'd start by filling the fuel filters and putting more fuel in your tank.
I was surprised to see 6-71s in the landing crafts used on D day.
G...HVAX. what's the difference in using WD 40 and starting fluid? Granted you have to use less starting fluid. If it wasn't for starting fluid I'd still be trying to start many of my engines on a cold day... actually I'd probably be posting on the TC forum, not on Class A. I have no idea how many cases of starting fluid I've bought or how often I've used gas on a rag to keep a engine running long enough to get fuel to the injectors. Granted you need to wait long enough for the grid heater (if hot) to cool down before using.:S

RE: 2008 American Coach Tradition Zone Air

The basement heat is on it's own adjustable Tstat in the basement and often set at a higher temp (40) than necesary. Hopefully it's only the solution in the above post... the breaker but not even the fan will work if it's tripped/defective. Lower the temp on #3 and see if it will cool with the other two turned off. With a 10K you should be able to run all three at one time. If you have two zones in one Tstat then make sure both are set the same: cool & fans both on auto.

RE: Battery/electrical experts -- question on refrigerator

What else is turned on? How many amps solar are you getting? How hot is it inside the MH? How long has the refer been on? How full is it? How old are your batteries? How many amps does the inverter draw when waiting to invert? Based on average values to these questions... 32.63 hours:B
Why not unhook from shore power and find out?

RE: 2008 American Coach Tradition Zone Air

Does the fan work on zone 3? Does 3 cool when the other two zones are off? How big of a generator do you have? If it's not a 10K then your coach is probably setup to only run two AC at a time.

RE: Boat or RV ?

In a MH you can expect 7 to 10 mpg. In a live aboard boat you can figure on gallons/mile after about 38' long.

RE: swap 5k lbs hitch to a 10k lbs hitch

There is a big difference in the stress put on a hitch towing 4 down and with a trailer. FighterP you do not need to do anything as you are only putting 25lbs of tongue weight on the hitch so you can use the rating for WeightDistb.
OP, you cannot just swayp hitches. What is the difference in you Combined weight rating (GCWR) and the GVWR? If like FighterP it's 7-8K then a welding shop may be able to add more supports/bracing to your current hitch to make it a WD. Instead of the hitch looking like a 1- (single cross support with - being the receiver) by adding another cross support it looks more like a H- and is now capable of being a WD hitch. Need to find a welding shop in a farming area (shade tree) that will be willing to work on it IF you have enough difference in your two weights.

RE: over towing length

A CDL is not going to help... might even hurt as harder to plead ignorance of the law. I'm sometimes a lot more than 2' over and have never been stopped much less measured. I am surprised how many states there are with 60' or less. Once you get to an Interstate Highway you are legal.
While we RVers are special, we are not exempt from the various state laws (when on state highways) even though we are not a commercial vehicle. Are we ever stopped and measured... rarely and reciprocity does not apply to length.

RE: RV titled in business name

You may need a CDL driver's license too as you are over 26K weight. NC is terrible about tags and licenses as I have to have a 26K plate on my PU because of their DOT.

RE: Any reason I'd need weight distribution?

You do not need either as long as you keep plenty of tongue weight... the more the better. Sway is caused by not enough tongue weight. PUs are heavy on the front so 500 lbs on the back of your PU will make it ride better.

RE: Towing with a Tiffin

Your MH is going to weigh less than 32K so adding a 5K truck is a 15% increase. Not enough to worry about as you'll hardly know it's back there. May decrease your MPG by 0.5 MPG in hilly/mountain areas.

RE: working backwards--starting out with this truck

Since I have a stock 275HP 02 F350 PSD with 50K on it you know my answer. Fortunately mine has the 6spd manual tranny as the 4R100 is the weak link so it needs to be bullet proofed.. You do not need to add and exhaust brake as the EBPV valve in the turbo of the 7.3 can be tricked into being a surprisingly good exhaust brake, but you also have to trick the torque into staying locked up regardless of which exhaust brake you have. I often gross over 26K with a equipment trailer where I can adjust the pin weight. More than enough truck to pull a 36' 5er and if you mount a good size generator on the back bumper you will not even need to add air springs to your 350. 5ers do not need 20% tongue weight... they do that so they can put cheaper axles/tires under them. Find a rig with 7K axles and big 16" tires and load it heavy on the rear and be happy.:B

RE: Washington State coastline?

After the coast of OR, you'll be disappointed in the northern coast of WA. After Grays Harbor/North Bay I would not bother and head to Olympic NP and the area around Sequim. From there I'd take the Port Townsend/Keystone ferry over to 20 and north to Oak Harbor, Deception Pass, and Anacortes. Washington Park near the ferry to CA is one of the prettiest CG and scenic loops anywhere.
*In looking where Ephrata, WA is, I would not even bother with the southern Pacific coast of WA and instead head straight to Whidbey Island. I might even leave the MH at Anacortes and take the toad to Victory and spend several days there staying in motels as that will be less expensive than taking your 34' RV. It would help if you put your 2000 National Seabreeze in your Sig. If no toad then I would do the loop to Victory and then the ferry to Port Angles and Olympic NP.

RE: Reefer problems.

The red light indicates that the Norcold recall box has shut the power off to the refer probably because of the low voltage. You need to look at it and see which revision of this band aid you have. If it is not Rev E you need to replace it. If it is then it can be reset with a magnet which I would do as I would monitor it for the next 12 hours to make sure the freezer starts to cool... BUT you need to consider the following by Doug Rainer... one of the best on RV problems:
REV E boxes are the only ones I can reset with the magnet.
I had my FIRST real trip (caused by a defective CU) of the recall last week on a REC C recall box. I bypassed and ran on 120 for 12 hours. when I checked, the refer was still warm inside and when I remove the insulated jacked on the recall thermocoupler. the flue was glowing bright orange for the heat build up of a BLOCKED CU. Made a BIG believer out of me to NEVER have a NON Qualified person to bypass in the field. I had the other techs come over and look at the result and we were all surprised by how bright and hot the flue was. Remember, the Trip temp is over 700 degrees and the normal operating temp is about 350 degrees. Doug
