RE: KOA St Mary, MT Hookup Q

You can check it out on the KOA website or RVParkReviews for this kinds of questions if you would like.
But, to answer your question the answer is yes, FHU's (been there 4 times).
Have fun - one of our favorite places.
Be safe.

RE: Dogs at glaicer and Yellowstone

Good info here to be sure.
Having lived in Estes Park, CO for 8 years I could write a book about stupid people and elk!
One chapter would be about the guy - against all warnings - got between a bull and his harem during rut. This is, trust me, NOT a good plan. Well, the bull took off after him and he ran around a car parked in the lot. Bull came right over the hood after him. Probably do not have to tell you what about 1200# or so of not too happy bull elk does to a car hood and windshield! And it was not the guy's car; belonged to someone else. The "discussion" between the guy and the car owner would be the next chapter in the book! :-)
Be respective of wildlife and your personal animals. We love our dog very much and would not take a chance with here on posted "No dogs" trails.
Be safe.

RE: Will spend Independence weekend at Likely Place.....

Been there a few times. Great place and love the general store in town (their diesel prices cheaper than Alturas the last time there). Laundry at Likely good as well; small but good. And great food.

RE: Thinking Ahead - Colorado

Agree with 4runnerguy as well - what do you like to do, what kind of places do you like to stay, concerns, etc. Lots of us here who have spent a lot of time in CO or still do or live there. And glad to help. We might now always all agree but then it becomes your choice. We lived there 8 years, been away 10 but back many times; and will be there again this fall.

RE: Denver to Telluride + Ouray - Best Route & RV Parks

Have been to the Telluride / Ouray area many times. In fact, going back to Ouray this fall. (Lived in Estes Park for 8 years).
Not sure what your rig is but a couple of notes. Independence Pass has strictly enforced length limitations - think it is 35 feet. Have heard not so good stories about people who violated that and got caught (turned around, hefty fines, etc). Also check "Search" on here for Hwy 550 (aka Red Mountain Pass aka Million Dollar Hwy) and make up your own mind on this - not going to get it going again here.
Would suggest the KOA in Ouray over the 4J place in town (which we feel is tight and crowded). Or the state park. On the other side of To Hell U Ride down by Dolores is Priest Gulch which is a nice place and other one down in Dolores which we have not been to but have heard good reports. Telluride is a good day visit but very pricey.......we will drive there from Ouray this fall for a day.
Just my 1.5ยข worth.

RE: Zion, Bryce, Tetons, Yellowstone and Glacier

rv2go. God bless ya - taking the time to SEE places instead of just saying they have been there. But you are fortunate to have the time to do it. Being retired we too have the time so spend and feel very fortunate.
We love the west and have traveled the 11 western states and 2 western provinces over and over and over. And never tire of it.
You are going to some of our very favorite places. We love the National Parks and spending time with nature.
If you get a chance, swing by Capitol Reef NP in Torrey.
Be safe; let me know by PM or email if I can help in any way.

Ooops, sorry. I was misinformed. I should know better than to pass on info I have not personally known or at least state it was something I had heard; not personal experience. As was this.

RE: Rocky Mountain National Park / Estes Park

We lived in Estes '95 - '02 and been back to the area 3 times since. IMHO, all the RV parks in Estes have deteriorated terribly. No hookups in the Park even if you could get in at this late date.
Last year we stayed at Riverview in Loveland - and it was great. Yup, you have to drive up to Estes but we would not stay there again. Last time we stayed in Estes was three years ago.
But LOVE Rocky.

You can get out with Verizon in certain VC areas of the G C South Rim but, obviously, nothing IN the Grand Canyon! :-)

RE: RV Park for Zion and Bryce NP?

I would avoid Zion River (high priced, ethics issues, etc) and stay at Zion Canyon in Springdale. And Ruby's for Bryce.

RE: Hwy 191 --- Clifton - Alpine, AZ

elmorc - that looks like a great idea on my paper map. Then I went to Google Maps!
From Roper Lake SP it is 141 miles to Alpine on the 191 for 3h33m. Coming back on the 180 is 146 miles for 3h6m. That is a day of nearly 300 miles and close to 8 hours without stops.
And, obviously, we would want to stop for photos / coffee / potty, etc.
We may go up the 191 for a while and turn around...maybe Hannigan Meadows. That looks like a total of 235 miles and about 6 hours driving time.
Much more doable.

RE: Grand Teton Park, Moran, WY

To us - a QUIET walk in the woods or on a seashore enjoying God's beauty in it's true form is the best way to enjoy nature. And we don't interfere with others enjoyment - our footsteps and voices are very quiet.
IMHO

RE: Grand Teton Park, Moran, WY

In the Fall of 2011 we spent a week at Grizzly in West Yellowstone and 4 nights at Colter. It was wonderful and we never regretted the way we did it. We were our early and then in the evenings for photo shoots and far less traffic. And to see animals. And sunrises and sunsets. Great places. Enjoy. Be safe.
(For images of those areas you can go to www.LaurenBarbara.com and click on Wanderings on the left and go down to Wyoming. Of course, feel free to look at any other places as well! :-) )

RE: West bound trip & need advice

West Yellowstone (Grizzly is good choice you made) to Tetons is not only too long for a day trip you can hit traffic jams due to crowds and "animal jams" (people stopped in the middle of the road to look at an animal). I would definitely recommend against it. Stay at Colter in the Teton NP. Rafter J in Mt. Rushmore area and KOA in Badlands.
Are you coming to Denver / Pikes Peak after Yellowstone or - presume that is what you mean. If so, do the 287 / 80 / 25.
At Pikes Peak area I recommend Cheyenne Mtn SP for the stay.
