RE: Need insurance

I have state farm, and its cheaper then the AAA, like MACs Dad said dont do a small company, my uncle had one and had problems when he went to try to put in a claim.
State Farm to the best of my knowledge does not offer replacement coverage for rv's in Ca. Since yours is pretty much new, you might want to double check what exactly you have.

RE: Need insurance

When shopping for rv insurance, its important to get total loss replacemnet coverage. YOu do not want actual cash value coverage. If you pay 40k for it and a year later it's a total loss and you have a acv policy, the insurance co. may only pay you 30k, problem is you only put down 10 percent when you bought it and owe close to 38k with tax and license to pay it off. You have to come up with the difference, but not if you have a total loss replacement or an agrreed value policy. Normaly these coverages are not available on your family auto policy, only the acv. Look at the companies mentioned above and others. Any questions, let me know.

RE: Onan 4000 genset

I just drain the float bowl whenever its going to sit more than a month. I was advised to do this by Onan.

RE: Onan Troubles

Pull the fuel line off after the pump at the carb. Hit the prime button, you should get a good flow of gas. It will drain out the bottom pan. Its probably one of the bad pumps your hearing about. Mine came with a bad valve springs that promptly broke 2nd time out.

RE: The sales tax game

Well, there you have it, he is not gonna have to pay any sales tax if he follows the BOE guidelines. I wish I would have known this sooner, could have saved some money.

RE: The sales tax game

I have read it and just read it again. I also talked to my b inlaw again who is quoting the same section. Maybe this will work, he says he has his registration, just waiting on his plates. The section does mention taxes are based on where you live, so it appears to be a real gray area. I will do the same thing if I buy another unit. Again I thought it could not be done, but maybe it can.

RE: The sales tax game

I personaly do not think his idea will work since he works and lives here in Ca. He thinks that by storing the rv for 90 days outside of CA it will work. I think he has a nice tax bill coming.

The sales tax game

My brother inlaw bought a Motorhome here in Ca, he took delivery in Arizona and he says that he will leave it there for 90 days without registering it and then he thinks he can bring it here in Ca to register and not pay any sales tax. Says he has Ca franchise tax board rules that say he can do this. I say this will not work, he has to pay sales tax somewhere, who knows for sure?

RE: Genset question

It appears to always to this, I have measured the voltage and it was right where it should be according to the service manual. I also meausured the voltage under load and it all looks good. I did not notice the flickering until after the valve springs broke, Onan reimbursed for that, I guess a bad batch from China or something. It could have been there since day one, just did not notice.

Genset question

I have a year old Onan 4.0 Gen. When the genset is running the display on the microwave almost flickers, its not steady like when plugged in to power. Is this normal? Its not real bad, but you can definately tell a difference when its plugged in to shore power or not. Thanks.

RE: Superglide hitch failure

I found that when I had mine, it was a real upkeep pain. First they said wd40 only, then it changed to grease on the rails. Now something else? I bought mine 5 years ago and it is now long gone, but I would not go there again. Pullrite did replace parts for me under warranty, had to do with the cam. The rails always worried me about how they looked, I still think it is not quite perfected yet.

Hot water and water pump

Looking to upgrade my water pump, anyone have one they can recommend? Also when using the shower with the pump, the water goes from warm to hot and then sometimes cold. I thought I read about a fix for this sometime back, but I cannot find it. Anyone remember? Thanks

RE: Cat 3126 Question

From my experience its a good engine. Performance is similar to the cummins, the cat I felt had a little snappier pickup, but the cummins seems to pull better in the higher gears. The cummins has more torque and is a bit larger engine. I would not hesitate to buy either.

Good bye Monaco!

Looks like Monaco is finally gone. Can't say I am sorry to see them go either. I am sorry to see people lose their jobs. But, after the way I was treated by Monaco, I am not in the least bit surprised. My 06 Knight was nothing but a nightmare. No quality control to speak of, problem after problem. The deeper I looked at how my coach was built, the more dissapointed I became. All that money for a real low end product. No wonder they will be gone. And before I get attacked, maybe they built a good product in the past, I doubt it. I have read to much here. I have three good friends and we all bought about the same time. One Monaco, one Holiday rambler, one Winnegago, and one Tiffin. The Winniebago and the Tiffin have both been excellent with one minor problem each. The HR and of course my unit have been horrible, and that, I have seen with my own eyes. No wonder Winnie and Tiffin are doing ok. Oh well, life goes on, Monaco still owes me money for warranty work that I paid for and will never see. I am glad to see them go. I am sorry about Country coach though. My unit is now long gone and I joined the toy hauler crowd, for now. Take care all. Terry

RE: carl's acres of trailers

I bought my Attitude from Jerry at carls in april. I ordered mine the exact way I wanted it, no problem. They are still same people working there, just spoke to Jerry last week. They treated me very well and never lied to me. Giant and Mcmahons did nothing but play games and lie to me. I do not think your friend has something right in his story.
