RE: Pills, pills and more pills, ....Sheez-us-Christmas!

MAC-a-roni, your Shih Tzu sounds like my Brittany before we got his allergies under control. The immunotherapy shots worked wonderfully for him. We did them for years before stopping (a couple of years ago) and so far no allergy symptoms have resurfaced. I hope they work as well for your dog. I'm lucky, my dogs don't take a ton of stuff. My Brittany is 13 and arthritic, so he gets Rimadyl, fish oil, glucosamine/chondroitin and a Pepcid every day. The Shih Tzu is just a young 'un, so all he gets is a fish oil capsule.

RE: Allergic to chicken ???

I'm not a vet by any means, but for an older dog having those symptoms a food allergy sure wouldn't have been the first thing I would've thought of. I hate to say it, but either IBD or lymphoma seem more likely to me. I hope it is just the food.

RE: Have to see another new vet..yet again !!!

Sounds like maybe something is not well within that practice for vets to come and go so quickly?

RE: It's Izzys time of year...

My first dog was a cockapoo who absolutely loved corn on the cob. She was an only dog that we got when she was seven weeks old, and we never put butter or anything else on it. Not a learned behavior or doctored up to entice her. She just loved it. I've also had dogs who, if given the opportunity, would raid a neighboring farmer's field, drag entire stalks of corn home and eat it. Raw and unbuttered, of course.

RE: diferent smart phones

I got my first smart phone a few months ago. Despite definitely not being a fan of Apple's business practices, what I (somewhat grudgingly) ended up buying after doing some rather thorough research was an iPhone 5. My reasons were relatively simple -- In reading many, many reviews it seemed that the overwhelming consensus was that the iPhones were the best built smart phones and the easiest for beginners to use. I really did like the bigger screens of the Samsungs, but the devices felt so flimsy compared to iPhones. And sturdy has always been a factor for me in all my "dumb" cell phone purchases. I also liked the fact that if I had a problem with the device I could go to an Apple store and have it looked at. In reading so many reviews, the only smart phones that a majority of people really seemed unhappy with were the Droids. Someone will now likely come along and post about how much they love Droids. I'm just saying what my impression was after reading many, many reviews. But do keep in mind that people are more apt to post negative reviews than positive ones. So far I haven't regretted my iPhone purchase. The phone is sturdy and performs flawlessly. Learning to use it wasn't difficult, although I do have two kids here who are fluent in Apple who gave me some minimal assistance. Although I'm certainly not in love with the iTunes/app store, it's not as horrendous to deal with as I feared.

RE: RV park in North Myrlte Beach,SC ??

Myrtle Beach Travel Park is by far your best choice in the NMB area if you want to be right on the beach. None of the big three to the south have sites that are significantly (if any) larger than the sites at MBTP. Friends with kids stayed at Briarcliffe twice and wouldn't go again if you paid them. It's a membership campground, although it's also open to the public. Both times our friends stayed there they encountered members who seemed to believe that all kids should be inside by 8:00 p.m. Apache is older and somewhat rundown, and doesn't have as many kid friendly amenities and activities as MBTP.

RE: Lily pees inside when raining

My Shih Tzu doesn't like to pee in the rain, although he's been known to romp around the patio during thunderstorms. Weird, weird, weird. As far as the not peeing . . . I just put down a puppy pad for him. Works for us. With such an easy fix, it's not a battle I particularly want to fight. At all other times he's perfectly happy (and trustworthy) to do his business outside.

RE: Dental Professional Question - Sonicare

Well, we did like them a whole lot. The fact that we bought two more after we had trouble with the first two is a testament to that. And I wouldn't hesitate to try again. They really are nice. But DH and I have been blessed with good dental health, so for us they're more a nice thing to have than a need.

RE: Dental Professional Question - Sonicare

Maybe you are running the batteries down too low between charges? Nope.

RE: Dental Professional Question - Sonicare

We love them, but . . . between DH and I we've had four. And we've had absolutely horrible luck with the rechargeable batteries on all of them. Every single one of them started not holding a charge almost immediately after the warranty ran out. These were all high-end units purchased through our dentist. The last one was a few years ago, so hopefully they've improved since then.

RE: Gracie problem

I've had dogs, including one of my current dogs, who always walk and poop. Makes picking up a bit more challenging, but it's perfectly normal for them. My current "walking pooper" is almost 13 and I think he poop walks even more than he used to (spreading the deposits over a larger area). I've assumed it's arthritis related. As long as she's pooping w/o straining, I don't think I'd worry about it too much. I think a lessened amount of stool would be relatively normal on a diet of canned food/baby food.

RE: Beano for your pooch???

I'm willing to bet if you only feed your dog, dog food, the problem will go away. Poof, like magic, no more phffsts.. I'm of the totally opposite opinion -- I'm willing to bet it's the dog food that's causing the problem. Even the "best" kibble is hard to digest. And that's per my very conservative, old school vet.

RE: Need or want?

Ummm . . . who cares? Yet another silly thread where someone is implying that "if you don't do it like I do, you're wrong." Good grief. No, we don't "need" FHUs. Neither do we "need" an RV at all. But we enjoy having one. Having FHUs means we enjoy our stay more. With four of us there are no worries about water usage or dumping. We can afford it. Why should anybody else care?

RE: Its a sad day

I hope you will keep us updated. Retiring to somewhere outside of the U.S. is something DH and I have considered. So it would be nice to hear the experiences of someone who's actually doing it.

RE: Kindle question

The clerk was wrong. If all your wife does is read then go with an e-ink "old fashioned" model.

RE: Bouki dog ? Mini-Schnauzer ?

I agree with the others -- He's likely a puppy mill or "back yard breeder" dog. Could be a mix of something passed off as a Mini Schnauzer or it could be that he was intentionally bred to be smaller than breed standard. There are a lot of gullible people out there who have no clue about health or breed standards who think smaller is more desirable. In dogs who are already small, even smaller often equates to a dog destined for health issues.
