RE: RV Net Forums & Other Forums

Here mainly TC forum. Like the cooking forum when I am looking for a new idea (or I am bored), Canada & Alaska to pass extra time. Mostly I find that the other forums on here are slow. I look at a number of other sites that have some great information on vehicles and expeditions as well.

RE: Water heater hard to light

Does it try to light on auto or nothing?

RE: quality control

It is not just a TC thing, it is EVERYTHING. I cannot believe what companies are passing off as quality. My wife is forced to resew some of the clothes that she buys as the seams are defective or buttons come off. I buy rolls of paper for the studio and return them as half way through they are defective. You buy something electronic and it works for a few days then that is it. This week we got a new fridge, funny thing (or not so funny) is that we just bought a fridge 10.5 months ago. The delivery guy remembered everything about the last delivery. Good thing was that this fridge was free as GE replaced the first one as we had so much trouble with it. In a lot of the cases I would rather hold on to the old as I know it works.

RE: Bigfoot upper bed vent?

I have found that the heat rises to the cab over and having a vent up there would make my bed a sauna.

RE: water tank replacement

Would it be easier to just patch the hole? Not sure how big it is, but there might be some sealants to patch it. Or if it is a big hole, you could maybe even cut it bigger and install a marine access hatch like NetBoy. NetBoy DeckPlate X2 Was thinking of the same thing with the hatch.

RE: What Would You Do?

You are having the opposite problem that I am having. My truck runs great and I cannot see ever getting rid of it (even with me wanting a couple of additional things - power windows and 4 doors). When would I? As soon as it is not reliable any more, then it is gone. A non reliable vehicle is asking for problems in so many ways.

RE: 20 Year Old Plus Lance Squire Camper-Refrigerator Advice

I always am concerned when a dealer says "to expensive to fix", really how much is too expensive if you want it to work and not have to switch out the entire thing???? I had a similar issue last year with my fridge packing it in. I ordered a new one but because of shipping damage refused it. Then I rebuilt my cooling unit, why? I really liked the fridge and the fact that it uses no power when running so I paid the cost on the new cooler - really have not had a lot of chances to try it, will see this year if the money was worth it. What did they say was the issue? On older units there is not a lot to go wrong (honestly on most newer units they are pretty simple). If it is the cooling unit and you are in the states there is a company that sells new units that are suppose to be amazing, contact them and get a price. **side note - for anyone that follows the happenings on the space station, imagine changing that ammonia cooler out! I wonder if they had three quotes from a repair company before doing it themselves???

RE: Want to add a battery to my truck camper - help please

tooldad, You absolutely must disable the 12V frig operation. The current drain is enough to kill whatever battery you have it connected too --- especially your truck battery. 12v frig operation is a cruel joke that the RV manufacturers pull on the unsuspecting public. Seriously, you have to have a Diesel Pusher with multiple house batteries in order to successfully run a 12V frig. Would it be helpful if I took photos of my battery install? I had to rebuild my cooling system on my fridge and as it does not need 12V to run I did not reconnect the 12V lines when I reinstalled it. A little extra security in case I should do something stupid like turn it to that setting. I also recommend if your fridge does not need 12V to disconnect it.

RE: BaseBoard Heater Install completed

Nice job. I went with a vertical portable one as I do not have the wall space, if I did I would have another project after seeing yours.

RE: California Fire

After being to many fires I can say that a picture does not tell everything. He is NOT putting out the burnt vehicles, looks like he is protecting something else that you cannot see. Also you do not know why he was there so please do not judge - the tanks may have already blew. As for moving vehicles, sure do it - if you are around. If this was an RV storage area more than likely the owners were not around and were probably fleeing the fire without worrying about the RV - an RV can be replaced a life cannot!

RE: Flatbed Storage Box/Doors?

I picked up 4 doors on Ebay and closed in the base with Filon over 1/2" plywood. I wouldn't bother with marine ply unless you're planning on taking it in the water. Just use a good solid core. http://i278.photobucket.com/albums/kk103/jhrodd/camper.jpg Love the look of yours, it is one of very few that looks like it was designed that way!

RE: Extreme TC - with everything!

Do I like it? It is unique. Does it work? It must as he is using it. Find it funny that he is being slammed by people sitting at home while he is out with his TC. Would love to know why it is like it is? He may have a good reason for it and good for him, hope he enjoys it and gets to use it a lot!

RE: TCing in Alberta - what to know, where to go?

Welcome from Canada. Be prepared for the weather it has been very up and down. Snow and cold one day, warm the next. For supplies they will have all the basics, you only need your personal items. May 20 is a long weekend here and it is NUTS. Hard to find a camping spot if not prebooked. For places that I recommend that are less traveled: Kananaskis Country Waterton National Park / and if you can leave Canada with the TC drop down to Glacier Park / Many Glacier area for a day Crowsnest Pass Drumheller Writing On Stone Park Japanese Gardens Lethbridge and the High Level Bridge in Lethbridge More traveled: Banff The Ice Fields Jasper Enjoy your visit, glad to have you!

RE: basic RV refrigerator question

As mentioned time and more time to get any cooling on the inside. Let it run for a few hours on 110V. Then touch the fins inside and see if they are getting cool. It could be the ammonia is done / plugged / air locked but only by testing it will you know. Also if you take it out and tip it you need to leave it a few hours for the ammonia to settle down before testing.

RE: Best Truck Camper - Opinions and Advice Wanted

One thing that I have learned over the years is that if you can afford to go bigger then go. It costs a lot more to sell and buy something bigger than to go for the bigger to begin with.

RE: A warning for my BBQ'ing friends

You are suppose to clean the grill????? I just let the dog clean it, keeps her amused for hours and it shines after :h Maybe this is why the family doesn't eat when I barbeque?

RE: Truck Camper Recommendations and Advice?

I would look at a triple slide, add air bags and you are fine. Maybe a trailer for behind to haul a jeep or a boat :h

RE: Popup Campers and Bears

Up here a few of the campgrounds actually provide bear proof lock boxes for all coolers / cooking untinsels for those that don't have a truck / camper to keep it in. I still loaded mine in it as I would rather them go for that than my toys. VERY good point. I know that Glacier does that as well. Better safe than sorry.
