RE: Towing Ford Explorer

The kit consists of "are you ready" an indicator light that fits on the bottom of the dash to tell you the transfer case is in neutral. The other portion of the kit is having the Ford dealer re-program the ECU ...... Seriously it is an indicator light and a ECU re-program. Work great. Cliff Cliff - Out of curiosity ... how do you 'switch' it into neutral ? My 4X4 switch only has 3 positions ( auto / 4 high / 4 low ) ... do they add a 4th ? Regards, Pat

RE: Towing Ford Explorer

I have heard that there is a neutral tow kit available. I've been looking into this myself for my Y2K Explorer. You can do a search online for the kit ... very inexpensive, but I also found a thread on a forum ( sorry can't remember which one ), that said the on-board computer in the Explorer needs to be programmed by Ford for the tow kit to be active. That is probably where the expense will be. I've been meaning to stop by my local Ford dealer and get the specifics. We've been towing our '96 Explorer that is a manual transmission right now, and it's having some mechanical issues so I wanted to check on having the Y2K adapted for towing. Sorry I haven't been more helpful ... Regards,

RE: help in buying used break for a toad

We have been using ReadyBrake on 2 different RVs with the same tow vehicle. I believe we have had it for the past 5 years. It's working as described on their website. We are very pleased with the performance of the braking system. Regards.

RE: Dish Network Issue

Thanks Dick for the suggestion, but alas, the receiver is not on any surge protected circuit. System worked fine the last weekend in November when I was at a dog show. Didn't work in January. I figured it had something to do with 6" of snow we had in December. However, when I found the Winegard forum, someone else had the same problem. The tech who answers questions on the forum mentioned to the other poster about this Satellite 77 that was most like the culprit and that it would affect DirecTV users as well. I have also posted a question regarding the matter. Now it may be that the newer Winegard systems are smarter than my older automatic system. I do have a work around, but it's a pain because even when I see the signal "locked" and a high strength, I can't quite catch it with my Power Off button. So it's a catch as catch can ... I've been able to 'catch' it about the 4th try each time, and the signal strength isn't as high as it could be. So far, however, it hasn't affected my viewing. Just don't need the expense of a newer system right now. Regards, Pat

RE: Dish Network Issue

I'm having a similar problem with my older automatic ( non-dome ) and DirecTV. It will search ... I see it peak on the signal strength, lock on ... lose that lock, then go on to search again. There is a forum for Winegard ... what I'm reading there, and it appears to cause problems with DirecTV and Dish is that Dish has a new Satellite up there. It's # is 77 and went into service last November/December timeframe. Apparently with this new Satellite in the mix the dish(s) get confused. My workaround for the time being is to have the signal strength on the TV ... and when it reaches a peak I try to catch it by pressing 'Off' on my automatic system. Regards,

RE: Frezzing Weather and LCD T.V.

We still have the old CRT TVs and want to replace the one over the dash with a LCD. While at the dealer last month for fluids & filters change we talked to the salesman. He said that cold does affect the LCD TVs and they have had to replace a couple of them due to failures. Didn't delve into the problem too much due to time, so I don't know if it was really a 'cold' issue problem or just the normal failures of new TVs. Our thought process was to install the yet to be purchased LCD with the ability to take it out during the winter when we aren't using the RV. Regards,
