RE: So what's your take on this article?

Rock is spot on, when it comes to REO homes. We bought one in 2010, at the bottom of the market, for less than 50% of what it had sold for previously. This is NOT a tract home, but a custom home in a very desirable neighborhood. Just had it appraised yesterday and it has INCREASED in value by over 60% in 3 years, most of it this year alone. That is a sell price appraisal we had done. I don't know of ONE mobile home or park model in the Treasure Valley that can make that claim or even ¼ of the same increase claim. Mobile homes are NOT an appreciating value commodity, the land they set on maybe, but not the house.

RE: Looking for a diesel guru

How long since you checked the air filter? Also, if the exhaust brake was sticking in a semi closed position, that will cause black smoke.

RE: Factory brake controller question???

What does your trailer have for brakes...:?...Some types require special handling, like the electric over hydraulic and disc brakes. You need to look into the whole picture then look into mechanically adjusting your brakes properly. Mine works great on level 4 or 5, depending on which trailer I have back there.

RE: Cummins ISL400 runs and quits... questions

If you got a bad load of fuel, it makes no difference if you just changed the filters. The price of a lift pump and the price of a Cummins service call, would lead me to change them again, just for peace of mind. I would take them out and pour the fuel into a clear glass container, so I could see what is in there. Also, my pump only runs 30 seconds or so, so that makes me suspicious of the tech from the get go. My next move would be to chase the ground wire to the Cummins ECM and make sure it is clean, with a Comm error......Sorry, but unless I had an extreme deadline to meet, Cummins would be my last resort.

RE: Warranty work refused

Lots of people were unhappy. However, they were NOT his customers!
And they never will be. Also their friends and family members. And nowadays this attitude will be posted on internet forums so the group of never-customers becomes that much larger.
Of course, he never applied this policy to someone traveling from out-of-town with an at-need situation. Just local people who bought elsewhere and then came to him for the quality service under warranty.
Of course those who are not customers and are unlikely to ever become customers are cared for while the local potential customers are shown the door.
My feelings exactly. If I ever had a service manager tell me that, then it would be the last he EVER saw of me or any of my extended family. The main reason we bought the last 2 vehicles from the dealer we now deal with is because of their attitude in the service department with a vehicle bought elsewhere. It is also the reason we will not deal with Dennis Dillon GMC, because they had a nasty attitude because we did not buy our GMC from them. The service department didn't even to check and see why we bought elsewhere, just a snide comment about where it was purchased.

RE: MiFi Service

We have the Jetpack. We never turn our Jetpack off and 2 laptops plus 2 tablets are connected 24/7. My wife downloads lots of books and reads several newspapers online. I do a lot of reading and downloading of manuals and such. I also monitor a site that updates dates constantly weekdays. Our average monthly usage is 8 to 11 GB. We have the Millenicom 20GB, which after our last software update now shows it as unlimited. This just about mirrors our usage and we too, use Millenicom Jet Pack on the Verizon network. In fact the Jet Pack says Verizon right on it.

RE: towing

I know our RV is not the same, but we tow a Chevrolet 4x4 Silverado with a Rzr in the bed. The big problem with a trailer is finding some place to store it, when not in use and the added 1500-2000# of weight. If your RV will handle the weight, 4 down with the Rzr in the bed is, IMO, the only way to go.

RE: Chevy 2500 factory brake controller

Your factory controller gives the same information as the P3, only in a much easier to read location, in the dash display system. I have had both a P3 and now the factory system and IMO, the factory system wins, hands down.

RE: Full Synthetic or Synthetic Blend

When Amsoil is willing to have ALL their "snake oil" tested like ALL other oil companies do, then I will support them, but NOT until. Some engine companies have flat said they will NOT warranty an engine that has used a lubrication that has not been tested and approved, so you are using Amsoil at your own risk.

RE: diferent smart phones

Well, we just finished week 1 with the WP8 Nokia 822 and all I can say is WOW. What a difference between the Droid, which we hated and this windows phone, which we both love. Easy to understand, easy to use, very good battery life, excellent pictures and on & on. all I can say is if you feel intimidated by a smart phone, look at one with the Windows WP8 OS and specifically the Nokia 822. It is user friendly for the older crowd and has all the apps most folks will ever want, with new ones being added weekly.

RE: Rest Areas Safe?

28½ years as a LEO and that is what we use 95% of the time in our travels from point A to point B. Have NEVER felt threatened or uncomfortable in a rest area, but can NOT say the same for camp grounds.
Also, most of the signs limiting the length of stay are a LE tool to keep the mobile homeless from setting up camp, NOT to stop the traveler from getting some rest. I know for a fact the 3 hour time limit in FL is just that, not a law, but a FDOT rule to assist law enforcement. The only state I know of that actually had a law with a time limit was CT and they had to change it as the Feds sued them over their enforcing it on OTR truckers.

RE: Full Synthetic or Synthetic Blend

I have the Corvette(6.2L) engine in my truck and the dealer could make more money by installing full synthetic as I asked, but he said it would not help anything in the engine, or GM would have installed it from the getgo. He said all it would do is drain my pocketbook quicker...:B. So, I will stick with the blended synthetic that GM uses.

RE: So what's your take on this article?

I just did it. I bought a foreclosed home. 3/2 Block home on 1.5 acres for less than what a new truck would cost! :C
http://i53.tinypic.com/25thr7r.gifRock, was that in Marion County or in Citrus County? I was hoping prices in Citrus county would be on the upswing, so we can get rid of the 3 places we have there.......
