RE: Tire side wall cracks?

Oh good-eeee, Michelin is building a 1.5 Billion dollar factory in China. High performance tires to be built in China. High performance tires to be built in China??????? What the.....???? :h That's like saying you have a great 5.7 diesel. :S Or you have a super fast high performance Yugo. :R There are already major companies whose names you would recognize that are building products in China for export. These factories export quality product the same as products produced elsewhere by these companies. They follow the EXACT SAME QUALITY CONTROLS already put in place elsewhere in the world. I know there are those on this forum who would find this hard to believe. Very true. But read this, it may change your mind. This is what the experts are seeing and saying.

Not to be out done by Ben: Here is a picture of my Michel-blows. My tire crack is a lot deeper than his though. :B http://i39.tinypic.com/2py50k0.jpg

RE: Unsafe at any speed....

Here is the picture of my infamous Michelin tire. Sorry about the quality. I was fighting dead batteries in the camera. http://i39.tinypic.com/2py50k0.jpg http://i43.tinypic.com/2jdmdnc.jpg This is typical for these tires. No cuts, no damage; just junk tires that blow in the driveway. I have a friend that has worked in the tire business for over 20 years and he tells me Michelin tires blow like that all the time. You can't see in the picture but the tire has around 60 to 75% of the tread left.

RE: Tire side wall cracks?

Unless I'm reading the article wrong, It's not all Michelin tires. Looks like BF Goodrich and Uniroyal's line up. Hopefully they will take are of those affected quickly and fairly. Bill Bill, Michelin owns BFG and Uniroyal. Same tire, different name on the tire.

RE: Tire side wall cracks?

Pretty common occurance with the overpriced******that is Michelin. Sorry you got burned by the Michelin hype. I just must be lucky...I have run Michelins for years and years on all our vehicles and have never gotten anything but great service from them. "Pretty common occurrence," for Michelin tires to fail...Source? Michelin themselves say their tires are junk. Or almost a half a million of them. Here are 178 pi$$ed off Michelin customers. Cracking sidewalls a common theme with Michelins.

RE: 2013 Ford 3/4 ton vs ton GAS

X2 a 350 is only a few hundred more and handles the same as the 250. As for diesels vs gas, diesels are torque monsters especially at lower rpm. Hauling a fifth wheel up a 8 percent grade will show you very quickly what the difference is. 405 ft-lbs torque on the gas engine and 800 on the diesel. BK I know it's been beaten to death but torque, though a wonderful commodity, isn't (alone) what gets you up the hill faster...that job belongs to a concoction of HP, gearing, and torque, not ft-lbs alone. If torque alone dictated speed, imagine how fast an unloaded class 8 truck with 1800+ ft-lbs could go :W Diesels are great, I'm a fan too, just trying to add a little perspective... Agree totally on getting the F350; a bit more capacity for a relatively small amount of money makes it worthwhile IMO. You may, though, want to check with your insurer just to make sure insuring the 1-ton isn't going to cost significantly more than the 3/4 ton; if so, your decision becomes a bit more challenging. Great post and on the money!

RE: Can I trust that little gauge?????

Post a pic of your old filter when you change it. This one had 12k miles when I changed it last week. Many of the miles are on a gravel, dusty road though. http://i581.photobucket.com/albums/ss253/rick83864/IMAG0132.jpg width=400 You need to put a K&N in it Rick. There won't be half as much dirt in it when you change it. :B A friend of a friend said his mileage doubled after putting one in. :W

RE: Fridge issue on propane

Just a wild guess here. Mine would not stay lit on the road. So I looked at the pilot light and found a build up of really crusty ash like stuff all around the pilot light hole. I cleaned it up and no problems since. Just something for you to check.

RE: why would you do that?

I don't wonder about that at all. Sometimes I use mine, sometimes I use the campgrounds. What is strange to me is my FIL. We will not allow anyone to use the shower or the royal throne in his 5er, including himself. ???? What the ????? All well, his trailer his rules.

RE: Unsafe at any speed....

It's not only that tire brand. I had about 10 LT Michelins that did the exact same thing. Blew in the driveway. I still have one on a rim. I will never run a Michelin in anything I own ever again. They sure are loud when they go off. Sounds like a shotgun! i have and still run michelins and they are the best in my book. when ever i buy replacement tires i will alway by michelin. have used on every thing from over the road trucks to my wife's personal car. i post to counter your negative comments. if you did the same thing to 10 tires as stated then, you might take another look at your tire management program. That's fine. I'm just posting my experience with them that's all. Maybe I got ahold of these tires, I hope you didn't. "This condition may increase the risk of a vehicle crash," said Mike Wischhusen, Michelin's technical director, in a letter to tire owners. :E Looks like Michelin agrees with me and they are having some quality control issues with their tires. Almost a million tires that THEY SAY are junk. :E If I were you I would check your tire numbers to make sure your "best tires in the book" aren't on the recall list and endangering your family or others on the road. :E

RE: Another Dodge Ram Recall

2 failures and a recall? WHAT??????? Something is really weird with that. Something very strange going on. LOL Guess there has only been one CP.4 failure :W LOL, good one Rick! But seriously, two failures and you get a recall? Something strange going on here? Don't know quite what to make of this whole deal. :h

RE: Unsafe at any speed....

I was thinking the same thing even before I read CapriRacer's post above. The, "cut," seems suspicious to me also. Just asking...is it possible that the OP backed into something that cut the tire and started the failure sequence? A rear bumper mounted spare is the first point of contact when backing up a trailer. I don't agree that, that is a cut. I have a Michelin in my driveway right now that failed in my driveway. IIRC it has sidewall damage just like the OP's tire. If I have some time I will post up a picture when I get home and you can all have a look at it.

RE: The idler arm/pitman arm is bad again.....

Not surprising after the talk I had with two local shop owners last week. So I had a front end job side job come in and I wanted to get parts for the thing. So I talk to one well known local shop owner about front end parts and ask him who makes good front end parts now-days? His answer, NOBODY. WTH? Really? He said really. IHHO they are all junk. I asked even MOOG? He said, yep, even MOOG is junk. :E He even talked about re-boxed OEM parts. He went to a local Dodge dealer to buy some part for a truck and found out it was re-boxed China junk at OEM dealer prices. Then I went to another friend that owns another well know shop and he told me the EXACT SAME STORY! He said all the new parts are junk. So I asked him what does he do? He told me just buy them and hope they make it past his warrantee period. :E The first guy likes to have his customers buy their own parts. That way he tells them if they don't fall off of the car he doesn't want to hear about it because all he did was install them.

RE: Towing MPG with my 13 F150 EB Maxtow.....

I'm shocked you did as well as you did at those speeds. Running those speeds even with just a slight hill will take a lot of HP and boost. Remember, at full boost your engine will almost use as much fuel and air as a 7 liter engine. And then you have people that want a 5L Ecoboost. :S :R

RE: Can I trust that little gauge?????

Much like women, with filters, you just can't tell by looks whether they are good or not. :B Yes the gauge is a good way to tell you whether the filter is good or not. They will tell you the exact restriction in the filter system.

RE: WALMART RV Parking

Na, I own enough RV parks that are doing quite well, I don't need anymore. But thanks anyway for the thought. :)Now you say you own parks that are doing well, yet the link on your profile goes to a bankrupt park. And of course all your successful parks are $10.00 parks that have lots of loss leaders. . Bunch of BS, but what else should we expect from an internet business expert who probably hasn't run a business as large as a neighborhood lemonade stand. No big deal if you don't want to say where your park is. For all I know you might not even own one. Just wanted to see what the reviews said. Bet I already know. :B More than likely a good decision. ;) The consumer can be harsh to a business owner with an attitude.
