RE: Shower Wall Caulking

After initially asking this question we have driven over 10,000 miles and been on the road 3 1/2 months. Never a problem with the shower leaking. The answers to my post originally gave me peace of mind. Now I have experience to back it up. :)

RE: Be aware - it happens more often than you think

Excellent point. On our recent trip across country we saw dogs outside unattended numerous times.

RE: COE Parks

We stayed four nights last month at Dog Creek (COE) next to Mammoth Caves and are spending tonight at Plymouth Campground (COE) in SE Washington. So far we are 2 for 2 in being completely happy with the campgrounds. Both parks are well maintained and friendly host campers are on duty. I'll be looking at more COE camping opportunities as we continue our round-trip cross-country journey. Oh yes, if you have an America the Beautiful seniors pass you get 50% off the campground fee.

RE: Anyone make a mistake buying first MH ?

We bought our first Class A in March 2012, a so-called "entry level" 31'. We are in our 60's. I second guessed myself for several months (5th wheel, better quality, etc.). We have completed one month of a planned 3 month cross-country trip and the second guessing has ceased. We are very happy with our rig. It is exactly what we need at this point. Of course our "desirements" may change in the future.

RE: Boise Fire

We just left Boise this morning for Washington. Sky was clear above Boise.

RE: St Mary MT to hwy 2

Three days ago I drove into St Mary KOA via 89 with a 31' class A pulling a toad. I made it okay but it was tiring after a long day's drive . Today we left via Duck Road (464) to Browning and it was much easier. (Like someone posted, the KOA folks recommended Duck Rd). Duck Rd is currently in great shape.

RE: Common Sense When Traveling

One other update on Beartooth highway. A number of guardrails have been installed on the switchback curves and they were in the process of installing more today. Kind of mitigates that "drop-off" feeling.

RE: Custer State Park

Jim, we were at Devils Tower KOA last Friday and they stopped showing the movie outside. They now show it on a flat screen TV in the dining room. I was very disappointed.

RE: Custer State Park

Just visited that area last week and loved it. Custer State Park was one of the highlights for us. Another was Jewel Cave. It absolutely blew me away. We had visited Mammoth Caves 1st of August, which I loved, but Jewel Cave impressed me even more with the beautiful formations present throughout the tour. They only accept reservations 7 days in advance but they are needed because their tours fill up. If you are still looking for a campground we stayed at Rafter J-Bar Ranch and loved it also. They are just outside of Hill City and central to all the attractions that have been mentioned.

RE: WHERE did you take your class A today!

Arrived in Yellowstone yesterday. Quite an experience for a Floridian. Letting the RV rest today.

RE: US 212 Beartooth All-Ammerican Road

Just a follow up, we did drive Beartooth today in our toad and had a good time (myself more than DW but she survived, was ultimately glad we went and took some pretty impressive photos). This "adventure" was a great success. We got to experience Chief Joseph AND Beartooth Highways. Both are very impressive and scenic. Thanks again for the good advice.

RE: Common Sense When Traveling

We drove Beartooth today in our Chevy Equinox and overall really enjoyed it. There were a few times DW had to close her eyes but we stopped often and took lots of pictures. I actually think that after being on it I could have driven it in the RV but it wouldn't have been as fun, we could not have stopped in all the places we did in the car, and, knowing me, I probably would have felt pressure from holding up others while going up grades. Just a note on Florida mountains, Disney World's Space Mountain is the third highest "mountain" in Florida. :)

Common Sense When Traveling

Yesterday we drove our class A 31' ft w/toad from the Mt. Rushmore area to Red Lodge, MT, and today from Red Lodge to Gardiner via the northern part of Yellowstone. I use the Rand McNally RVND 7710 GPS and Microsoft Streets and Trips to plot my routes. For the trip yesterday the GPS was having us go on route 14A and today both products plotted us to go on the entire US212 Beartooth All America Scenic Byway. I remembered cautions from posters on RV.net about using 14A and took an alternate route. I was planning to take the 212 route today but late yesterday evening followed an urge to ask about the viablilty of that route on this site. A couple of posters quickly advised me of the issues. As a result today we had a wonderful trip going on the Chief Joseph Scenic Bypass instead. My point is, although I love both products and will continue to use them, ultimately it is on the driver to do research, ask questions, and make the final decision. My experience also reinforces the true value of this forum.

RE: US 212 Beartooth All-Ammerican Road

We took the Chief Joseph Scenic Byway to US 212 and into Yellowstone today with our RV and toad. What a great drive. My wife took over 400 digital photos and we both had a fun, unstressful drive. We hope to do the full Beartooth All America drive in the next day or two with the toad. Thanks again to you guys for straightening me out!

RE: US 212 Beartooth All-Ammerican Road

Thanks both for keeping me from making a terrible mistake. I'm going to take the "Belfry Bypass," ultimately leading to the Chief Joseph Scenic Byway which meets the 212 after those hair-raising switchbacks. After setting up camp in Gardiner we'll probably take a day trip in the toad along 212 and back. I appreciate your responding to my question. John

US 212 Beartooth All-Ammerican Road

Will be driving my 31' Class A pulling a toad on US 212 from Red Lodge to Gardiner tomorrow morning (Mon). Looking forward to it but on the map I do see a number of switchbacks. It's nothing to worry about is it?

RE: My Dog Gets Sick...but doesn't have fleas

Like TugCE, we are using a "hammock" in the back seat that hangs from the front seat headrests and back seat headrests. The bottom of the hammock rests on the back seat with slots that allow the seat belts to be connected. That lets us "tether" them to their harnesses and gives them a little freedom of movement but also secures them. I don't know if that hammock has helped Oakley but it sure has made it easier to clean up after him!

RE: My Dog Gets Sick...but doesn't have fleas

We had a 7 hour run today from Niobrara, Nebraska to Mt Rushmore area and Oakley did just fine. We had him on 1/4 dosage for his anxiety med and dramamine. We are close to letting him go cold turkey. Side note: last evening in Niobrara State Park we drove around looking for deer and wild turkeys. We saw some deer and then Oakley and our other dog Cam noticed them, and associated them with the scent, and basically went crazy, yipping and wimpering and making sounds we didn't know dogs could make. After that, when the dogs went "crazy" we looked for deer and actually found several more! It was a lot of fun teaming up with the pups. I was a little concerned about the limitations that having the dogs along would impose, but I have to admit I'm glad they are here. Also there are lots of other RVers out with their pets.

RE: WiFi on the Open Road

We use the Iphone personnel hotspot capabilty with AT&T. Since I already had the $30 a month data plan, going to the $50/mth 5GB with personnel hot spot amounted to an added cost of $20 to get my internet capability. It works great when we are in cell phone coverage. However it appears Verizon has a wider number of areas with 4G capability. When my contract is up I'll be switching over. Thinking we'd save money we did try Truconnect which uses the Sprint network. Big mistake. If you are using the internet in your RV a lot, the cost quickly gets much more expensive than either AT&T or Verizon and it seemed we were always out of cell service.

RE: My Dog Gets Sick...but doesn't have fleas

Follow up report: we are a week and a half into our 3 month cross-country trip. Each of the first three days of travel Oakley got sick. However since then he has been fine and actually enjoys the drive. He also no longer drools in the RV. He still is a little uneasy in the car but also improving there. It seems that as this has become our new way of life (at least temporarily) he is adjusting and is less and less anxious. Just wanted to let you know that it seems to be working out. Thanks, John
