RE: Who here cooks inside camper or Outside camper?

we used to cook all the time on the fire, until there was a fire ban. we drove back to town, bought a bbq an went back to camping. now breakfast is done indoors by my wife, to many pans on the go. and dinner is done on the q by me, man grillin. the ten oclock nighttime snack goes on the open fire, chips n cheese or chicken wings done by my son. don't forget the jiffypop just because.

RE: new battery charger...please help!!!!

keep your charger, i have the same and like it alot.
you will need this for the winter when you bring your battery indoors. charge it once a month when not in use. your charger will start on ten then drop to 2 to maintain when full.
its not a bgig deal.

RE: My Solar Panel Setup - To be.

glad to hear you are happy with your system. pretty cool its your own design. we bought our trailer and it came with an eighty watt panel and a controller. i am not an expert but love the system and it works for what we need. we camp mostly in the interior of bc and get loads of sun all day. at night we listen to the stereo and use a bit of light in the trailer. the stereo goes on for about four hours and light use is probably 1 hour total. we sit outside mostly. the solar tops up the battery by ten or eleven oclock next day. we can also use the stereo during the day with out much drain.
we did have an early season trip last year with not much sun and mostly rain. needless to say when i arrived, two days later the battery was pretty much done. we went without much for two more days then went home. talked to the wife and a while later we bought a honda 2000 genny.
now we can top up when needed whichever way we want.
we also have one of those can tire portable power packs which the kids use for their phones and pods. ive tested with a small fan and a 40watt light. you can get 11 hrs till dead. we recharge that thing before dead with the genny.
one thing i would like to instal one day is a 12v outlet for charging the phones and pods, then i wouldnt have to pack the portable power

RE: How young is too young?

go and enjoy
we took our son when he was six weeks old. mom will have to be up for it though, face it shell be doing most of the work. we tent camped, it was cold windy and stormy. we brought a camp chair in the tent and spent a fair bit of time there, feeding etc. the one nice thing is the babies are like little heaters when it its cold out.
needless to say i bought a tent trailer two weeks later so there would be more room to move and it would be off the ground. it wasnt much, basically a tent on wheels but it was so much easier for my wife.

RE: Need reassurance about towing an hybrid with a Caravan...

just athought
you could sell the minivan and get an astro or safari. it would have to be a used one as they dont make these anymore, these seat seven with plenty of room for storage. the motors are awesome, 4.3 ltr v6. it would cost abit more on gas, but not an arm and a leg, and with a 5000 pound towrate, towing your trailer would be no problem with the van full. , i own one just new to me, havent towed yet, but have friends with the same and they love em, . most powerful mini out there and the motors go and go. my buddy has 357000. kms on his.
good luck with your decision.

RE: Port Coquitlam to Drumheller and back questions

we did the drumheller trip. we stopped in golden for a few hour sleep. we parked at the truck stop, woke up had breakfast and hit the road again. we booked at dinosaur trails rv park. it was a bit pricier than we were used to but it was a nice park and had a pool to cool off in. it does get warm there. lots to do in drumheller. we stayed six nights. we then headed back to kamloops in one go, while taking an hour break at crazy creek near revelstoke. nice rest spot to visit on the highway. we wanted to stop in banff. we drove thru town but found no place to park with a trailer. everything was full so we moved on.
dont forget to take the helicopter tour in drumheller so worth it if you want to see the land from high up. we have never been in a copter so it was the adventure of the year. you can also do an old coal mine tour just outside of town, really nice.
have fun

winter for battery

my brother has a 94 gulfstream class c
while we have winterised it, my question is, should he pull the house battery for the winter? he will be starting the van a couple times each month during storage but we are not sure about the house battery.
on my trailer because of the cold i take the battery inside and charge every two months.
thank you

RE: What's your favorite flashlight?

i will agree with the streamlight. i got mine from my dad years ago.
its got a clip on it for fastening to your jacket for hands free. its a green led, good for night vision. i keep it in the truck always. very handy for camping. and batteries last for almost ever.
one other light i just bought this year is a windriver light. it is led and when turned on and held it is a torch, but when turned on and stood up, it is a lantern. your grip changes the mode automatically.

RE: BACKING up may end my marriage!

when i first read this i was confused, parking vertically and horizontally???
just a suggestion, you are there to help, if its not helping, step aside and let him do it.
i can back up our trailer with or without my wife.
biggest thing that helps me is to survey the site, decide where the trailer will be, and plan your trailer tire track,(where the trailer tire should roll. i prefer drivers side)then back in watching where your trailer wheel should be to avoid all obstacles.
if my wife is with me she gets out and stands roughly where i want that tire to sit. at home i drop a cone beside where i want the trailer. hope this helps and remember that the more you practice the easier it gets.

RE: Trailer Tires?

we needed tires for our hybrid also. talked to our tire guy and he said absolutely change to the fourteens if possible. he checked out trailer and we had enough room, so it was the fourteens we went for.
the larger diameter will tow better, give some more clearance and get you a better choice of tires as well. the fourteens are also more common which means if you need to replace them in a more remote town, the chances of finding replacements would be easier.
we upped the size and are quite happy with them.

RE: Drumheller Alberta - RV parks to stay?

we stayed at dinosaur trails two years ago and had a great time.
they always had something to do there. we liked it because it was out of town but close enough to be there in five minutes.
they even dressed up a dinosaur to walk around at night for the kids.
we enjoyed our stay there very much.
dont forget to feed the rabbits

mr big buddy heater

took the family out thursday, left them there till i returned after work sat night, we all stayed till mon.
was a good trip but rained most of it.
i was happy to use the new mr big buddy heater i bought last christmas. wow it worked awesome. kept us toasty warm heating the trailer in a short time. i am glad i read about here and decided it would be just what we needed for cooler nights and days. we didnt run it all night, just a bit before bed to take the edge off.
if anyone out there is looking for extra heat without a plug in, this one i would definately reccomend.

dinette question

so i have been helping to rebuild my brothers 94 gulfstream ultra and we want to know what is the purpose of the seat back being able to fold down? the seat back of the dinette directly behind the drivers seat folds down flat, but why? it doesnt fold out towards the drivers seat for say maybe a table but it folds down flat towards the table and lays on the dinette seat. anyone got an obvious answer that i dont know? thank you
