RE: Giving up land line

If you are in an area where there are hurricanes or earthquakes, the land line will frequently work when all of the cell towers are down.
The entire North American "switched network" runs on 48 Volt batteries.

RE: Brrr.

You guys ain't never seen cold ...
I remember one night in Aug, '61 when it was so cold that when we tried to talk, our words came out in chunks of ice and we had to fry them to find out what we said.
Lat: 90°S.

RE: Dual-15-adapter-generator

The adapter was intended for use with certain gen-sets where the duplex outlet is wired for two 15 Amp circuits. They are connected "in phase" and on the same 30 Amp breaker.
Any other use was contrary to the labeling of the product.

RE: Carpenter Ants take out RV....

Terro. The ants love it and carry it back to feed the queen.
It takes about a week and the entire nest is dead.

RE: Dual-15-adapter-generator

If I am not mistaken they have dicontinued making those because of liabilities. Seems people were not checking to insure the outlets were not divided causing 220 to be on the 30 amp side. I have one and always check voltage with multimeter before using it. The newer ones only have one 15 amp male plug on them. Not what the OP is asking about, sounds like you are talking about the 50amp "adapter" that attempts to use a 30amp and a 15 amp circuit

RE: Hamburger Press

Many years ago, I made a press with an empty 26 oz. juice can with both ends cut out. The plunger was a 1/2" thick plastic disc with a 12" long 1" dia. dowel rod for the handle.
The separators between the burgers were 5" squares of waxed paper.

RE: Dual-15-adapter-generator

2 males plugs (inlets) and one outlet. Doesn't sound very safe to me. What happens when you plug in one. The other is live and you could get a shock or it could touch something metal and short.
I think I know why you want to do it but it is dangerous.
The OP is looking for an adapter block with 6 pins on the male side; it plugs into a duplex outlet and has a 30Amp RV female on the other side.

RE: Why won't 2000w inverter run 900w microwave?

Read the label or the manual for the microwave oven.
It will tell you how much current (Amps) it draws. Multiply by 120 to determine the AC power drawn from the inverter.
The power rating on a microwave oven is the output power from the magnetron tube and they are only about 50% efficient.

RE: "how to" on installing a 30 amp plug at your home?

I would urge you to contact a professional electrician and get the job done properly and up to code.
Make sure the electrician knows it's a 30 Amp 120 /volt outlet.
A lot of them think it's wired like a 220 Volt dryer outlet.

RE: "LISENCE"

In Florida you just need a normal operators license, but you do have to pass a spelling test.
"Normal" = non-CDL (under 16.000 lbs GVWR)
If GVWR > 16,000 LBS. CDL is still required.
Air brakes restriction applies if you missed certain questions on the test.

RE: Metal Detector owners

I need one of those things to find my car keys - at home. Although sometimes they're in my pocket or hand when I start looking. Ain't no fun getting old.
I don't know if they are still available but about 20 years ago, there was a key chain fob that would beep when you whistled.

RE: "LISENCE"

I would jump on getting the non-commercial B or A license because in a wreck, the insurance company will not honor any claims, and the other party can allege gross negligence for not having the qualifications to operate the motor vehicle.can you cite your source on this?
I would like proof of this too. Many times on this forum, the pay/no pay/ debate has raged and the no pay side never has been able to cite their source. It would be a good thing to know.
If you have time to wade through a few pages of fine print legalese, you should be able to find a paragraph in your insurance policy about drivers being properly licensed.

RE: Do Hosts Do This?

When I was hosting, even at 2:00AM waking the campers to inform them of the danger was standard operating procedure.
Some of the campers would want to argue with me because I had interrupted their sleep but I would tell them "Just doing my job, if you want to discuss it, see me in the morning."

RE: Are CB radios still used?

How are you people getting rid of the hum and bizz on your CBs? If we squelch it all the way down, we don't hear anything. And voices we do pick up are distorted. One trucker said our "Modulation" was weak. What is Modulation? It's a Cobra we bought at Radio Shack.
What is your tow vehicle?

RE: direct to leo satellite?

They are trying to market their "o3b®" system the same way Motorola® tried to market their "Iridium®" system.
$2,000 to $3,000 for a telephone and $5 per minute for talk time won't fly.
