RE: dumping gray water in forest

I'll be darned- you don't mean to say that folks are coming around to the benefits of using greywater for plants etc., just like we tent-and-boonie-campers have been doing for years?
Wonders will never cease! :)

RE: RV Net Forums & Other Forums

I usually stay on the TC forums, but do venture to the "General RVing" section now and then for various posts on other things. today I went to the "RV Parks, National Parks, State Parks, etc." section for info on Zion. I do searches and check out the tech section too. I really do like this website. I like a variety of information so I do the research in areas that I'm interested in at the time. If I don't find it here I research the internet as a whole..
But this is still my favorite. :)

RE: Zion Nat. Park RV parks w/hookups?

Thanks for your replies folks! I don't expect total peace and quiet as I'm quite aware of the crowds at national parks, it's just a preference wherever I camp :) I think it will be Zion Canyon. I spoke to them today and they have spaces available. I do want to be as close to the park as possible. Zion River Resort also has a shuttle to the park, and spaces available, so maybe... I'll decide tonite.
Thanks again!

Zion Nat. Park RV parks w/hookups?

Hi All,
We are heading to Zion the end of next week. I've never been there! I know about South Campground (no facilities) and Watchman Campground (no availability) so those are out. I've done some research and found a few campgrounds "nearby", such as Zion River Resort on the way to the park, and Zion West, as well as others not so close by. I'm not towing a car and won't be taking my camper off the truck so closeness to the park is best. We will be arriving after boondocking for 3 days so I'd like full hookups. I'll also do some more searching here on this site for info, but any suggestions or ideas?
Quiet and peaceful and pretty are good.. ;)
Thanks in advance!

RE: Refrigerator fans

I used one but hate to depend on batteries. For the Refrig. you might want to try one of these.
Refrigerator fans
Fan 2
I purchased the 2nd one and installed it (5 minute job)and the fridge has been on since yesterday Morning. I'll check it tonite to see if I have to adjust the temp up. We are going on a 2 week trip soon and I'm curious how well it will work. Circulation is a good thing in the fridge..

RE: Warranty work refused

I’m still at a loss to understand how it makes ANY sense at all to turn away business in a manner that is sure to cause a loss of any future business.
I share your position on this. Everybody who walks through the door of a business is a potential customer, especially if they aleady own a product the business sells that may someday need replaced.

The beauty of doing what you are doing is that if you DO decide you want to camp you can always rent an RV! Best of everything in your new "settled" life! :)

RE: Escapees?

Join!! We are a great group of people and though not all of us are full timers (anymore!) we all share a common goal of sharing, Karing and finding a place to park! (SKP,... Escapee) I've been a member since around 1990 and the support group, parks (Park Sierra is one of my favorites), PEOPLE and everything about the club is top notch. Inexpensive also when you consider what you actually get.
Good luck!

RE: What Are The Upsides & Downsides To Driving A DRW Truck?

Well, I have a dually because I have a very top heavy (7' inside ceiling height) camper and like to race around twisty mountain roads really fast! Turning corners really, really fast with a 3,500-4,000lb camper is better with dual wheels.... ;)

RE: 9.6 Bigfoot Dual Batteries

What are everyone's thoughts on a Powermax Boondocker 75amp converter/charger for my 3 group 31 AGM's? I have a Honda 2000 that should power it fine.
I put in the 60amp Boondocker a while back and I LOVE it! It's a great true 3 stage charger/inverter. What an upgrade from the old crappy Magnatek! :)

RE: Driving with camper windows open?

I drive with vents open all the time. I have Maxair covers on them. Never had a problem.
Ditto...at least I will now, and have done with all other RVs I've owned in the last 26 years. If it's really hot I also open the pass through window on the camper (but not the one on the truck.)

My new roof, etc.!!! :-)

Well I finally had it done! I'm pretty pleased with the result, but of course I always feel I pay a little better attention to the details on my own things than others do. However, I'm pretty happy! And if you recall from another post about pricing, no, I didn't JUST shop for price ;)
I did, however decide to opt for the rubber roof again rather than metal. A number of things helped make that decision for me. I also had them leave off the luggage rack, but kept the ladder. I've never really used the roof rack on any RV I've owned. It's too difficult for me alone to put stuff up and down from it.
Here is the roof:

And here is the new Maxxiar vent cover:
http://pic20.picturetrail.com/VOL1600/2142447/23859195/406696735.jpg
and Finally, here is the new Fantastic Fan:
http://pic20.picturetrail.com/VOL1600/2142447/23859195/406696786.jpg
I still have some details I want to "improve" on with the sealing on the roof, as I don't feel they did quite a neat enough job and it looks kinda thin in spots around the flanges on the vents. They would have redone them there as it was just completed when I picked it up, but I wanted to get it home back up the mountain before dark. I was also a bit concerned that I could see what looked like the seams of the roof panels but then found that under the rubber roofing there is a strip of something used to soften the joints where the wood meets to avoid any sharp corners (need to call and ask what they used.) The roof has a 15 year warranty. I didn't get the best and I didn't get the cheapest, but considering my camper is a 1995, with the new roof, all the electrical upgrades, vents, etc., etc., etc. I've done to it during the last 2 years, I've already spent way more than the cost of the camper!
Getting ready to leave on my trip next week! Yay!

RE: fridge fan

Got one of THESE for both the coach and TC, work great. The RV has a little more sophisticated frige so it was easy to hook up the fan to start when the frig is turned on. The truck camper was a little more challenging, had to run the hot lead down the condensate drain to find power, it turns on by clipping it to the fins when I fire up the frig.
No relationship with the seller other than being a happy customer.
I just installed the same one from eBay. I'm really happy with it! A VERY low (.12a) draw on the battery; like an LED light bulb..

RE: Chalet's TC Washer and Dryer pictures

I purchased an "all in one" for my mother's house when she was still with us. I used it once or twice and it took FOREVER to do a very small load. When she passed away I actually gave it away! On the other hand, when I fulltimed in a fiver for 9 years I had a Sears Kenmore stackable (110v) in my trailer. It took an hour/1 1/2 hours to dry a pretty full load (not just a pair of jeans) but since I was at least "home" I didn't mind. It was a pretty big stackable unit also. If I was full timing I'd do that again, but NEVER in a truck camper.. but to each his own.

RE: Installing a Fantastic vent with proper sealant

Well, I just had a new rubber roof installed on my camper and I purchased a 4000R FF. I've always loved them. They installed it for me and did use the gasket with Dicor on the screws and around the edges. I'll keep a close watch on it! I was going to do all the vents myself but when I went to pick up the camper yesterday they had installed all new vents and tank vent caps! Love it, but unless I do something like this myself I'll always worry that they may not have sealed them just the right way or the way I do!
So, that said, If in fact it does leak I can at least go back to them to fix it... Hope that doesn't happen! I HATE leaks!!
As I said before HMS Beagle, GREAT work. That's the kind of work I would like to have seen on my roof, but alas.... :)

RE: It's been fun, but going to the "dark side"

Best of luck Chuck! I too remember the time when my TC (and RV!) life came to a screeching halt due to taking care of my mom for a number of years. After she passed in 2011 I started back up again after a time, and I'm sure you will continue to also as your circumstances change. Whether or not you have a TC isn't the issue. It's that you enjoy your life and spend the time with those that you love as much as possible while they are still here.
:)
