RE: 1995 Gulf stream

We have been pleased with our 2006 Gulfstream Ultra. We bought it last year and other than cosmetic issues, there have been no external leaks, structural or mechanical problems. The biggest issue we had was the shower floor leaked and caused some damage to the floor. A good re caulking of the shower floor fixed the problem.

RE: My New To Me RV and Questions

I agree, we are redoing the interior of our 2006 Gulfstream Ultra! We have a separate rocker switch for the water heater.

RE: Insurance companies recomendation

Bought my unit last year and my Allstate rep, with whom I have my house and cars, suggested I go elsewhere since they would not be competitive with RV insurance and sent me to a local insurance rep. They set me up with Progressive and the rates were within $5 of Good Sam.

RE: Considering a Class C - newbie

We went from a small TT to a class C, set up is much easier! We expected to use the cab over bunk as the guest room for our 20something daughters, however they ended up with one in the bunk and one on the foldout couch.

RE: Buying a Rental Class C. How many of us out there? (Long)

Another approach to the RV rental experience. We were looking at RV's primarily at dealers, and when inspecting the one we purchased, we noticed the shadow of lettering identifying it as a rental. The dealer had taken it in on a trade from a private owner who bought it from a local dealer that rented it. Although cosmetically compromised, the mechanics were in good shape, relatively low mileage 32K for a 2006)and had lots of nice features, including new decals! We are finishing up our first season, had all the warranty work done including trouble igniting the water heater and a leaky shower drain and over all pleased with the unit. I am planning on replacing the couch and some of the cushions to bring the decor more in line with our tastes.

RE: Used Gulf Stream Ultra vs. Jayco Greyhawk

We bought a 2006 Gulfstream Ultra 29' E450 and we are quite pleased with it. We are the third owner, it was a rental originally. While somewhat compromised cosmetically, the unit is solidly built, has quality components and a practical layout. Previously I towed pop ups and small trailers so I while I think it rides and handles nicely I do not have anything to compare it to. Good luck.

RE: Storage compartment suggestions

We use our big rear pass through storage compartment for chairs and tables which take up quite of bit of space, on the curb side we keep the hoses and the street side is for the grill, mats etc. I have a shallow pass though in the front I use for extension cords, vacuum cleaner, boom and that hook thing for the awning.

RE: Best router from DC through NYC to CT

Avoid 95 south in CT on Sunday afternoons, way too much traffic!

RE: Class C Exterior Width

I just went from towing a 19' trailer to a 29' class c, 100" wide. Without a doubt, driving the class c is easier! This is taking into account I have been towing trailers for years and never drove anything as big as the class c. The width issue is simply being aware of your width when navigating small spaces such as the two concrete barriers on the highway and toll booths. I essentially line myself up on the drivers side and as long as it is an established roadway, the other side will take care of itself. Backing takes some work, using the mirrors is an learned skill, and so far my the picket fence in my yard is still standing!

RE: Ford V10 engine

The 450 V10 engine seems to be a popular engine for the class C's. Having recently purchased one, 2006 with 32K miles we are pleased with it, averaging 9 miles per gallon, no car in tow, less in stop and go traffic which we are very adept at finding. There are several threads delineating the Ford/Chevy debate.

RE: Motor Home evaluation

Pictures look good. As the technician told us as we were recently purchasing our used unit, it is all about the condition of the roof! Check for leaks! And as the previous post said, check on the engine.

RE: Class C Survey

We recently upgraded from a 19' hybrid trailer to a 29' 2006 Gulfstream Ultra Ford V10. We wanted a Class C as they generally less expensive than a Class A. We are pleasantly surprised with how much easier it is to drive than towing, plenty of room for the two of us, it is a basement model with lots of storage and much easier to set up. The overhead bunk allows for our college age daughters to stay with us. The deciding factor was cost. We needed to make a change as our tow vehicle was deteriorating. Our rational was for the cost of a decent used tow vehicle, we could to upgrade to a decent Class C. All the benefits of the class C over the trailer were a bonus!

RE: newbie

I am curious how you like your 29' Gulfstream Yellowstone. We picked up our Gulfstream on Friday and have been using it over the weekend. Other than a couple of minor flaws, (leaky shower drain and some lights that turn on and off when we open the cabinets) we are very pleased. Great layout. I am impressed with how much easier it is to drive than towing a trailer. The Triton V10 seems to be a great engine.
