I use FireFox when accessing Google's Gmail. In my opinion, Gmail plays better with FireFox than IE. Try installing a 2nd browser.

RE: Window Screen Replacements

To the OP, replacing an RV screen (the screen part) is the same as replacing a torn screen, but you need the screen's frame. Start here: http://www.holidayrambler.com/holidayrambler/contact Maybe they can tell you what other RVs in their product line use the same window, or the make/model of the window - if it is common to the RV industry. If they don't have a screen and frame for your RV to sell to you then maybe they can give you the information to source a screen (on frame) from a dealer or a used RV parts supplier. RE: Warped Attitude

For me, the appearance of the "Dear Marcus" forums took away from the other forums. The Dear Marcus forums are nothing but a complaint platform. They almost always follow the same pattern. Complaint with a bunch of unsubstantiated information. There are the newbies who don't know the lingo (I don't want to say 'poor language skills' - but that too) and those who just discovered/rediscovered these forums and thought they were all alone in their bad CW sales/service experience and were silent about it for a long time. Who are we to call them ding-a-lings for poor writing skills or having sat on their hands for a year? How do we all separate them from the CW bashers? Should we even try? Some posters chiming in with the "Yeah Good Sam Sucks" posts. Others, including me, making the skeptics posts about filling in the blanks and how maybe the expectations are a bit high or maybe how we are being trolled. It is my belief that the CW bashers are disingenuous folks who don't need to be called out. They eventually trip over their own words and out themselves. One only needs to sit back and wait. Calling them out just seems so petty to me. Then the Good Sam people chime in with the "That's terrible, we will look into it promptly, response" and then nothing. Never know if the problem got solved, it was uncovered that there really wasn't a problem, or the mods just block any other followup and the thread dies. I agree. I think most of us want to see resolutions posted - even if it meant that the thread remains locked until a resolution is posted, after which maybe only the OP, the mods, and GoodSam/CW can post in the thread. It would not preclude members from PM'ing the OP with advice in the meantime. It has really turned the forums into gripe sessions. Wouldn't bother me a bit if they disappeared. In a twisted way one might wonder about the Sales and Installation forums, if shaming rogue stores into compliance is a secret Pavlovian experiment, but I digress. :) ....

RE: Unwanted guests, lets hear your story....

... He would take my chair when I got up to go into the camper for something and just sat there as I stood (and Im disabled). ... This idea is a pain - when this person is present you can fold up your chair and lean it against the RV when you go inside. When that person reaches for the chair you ask them what they are doing, then politely deny them the use of the chair. They will ask why. You can insert the explanation of your choosing - or say "because I said so". If this person then proceeds to take the chair and sit in it, you have now given park staff adequate justification to appear at your request, confront this person, and ask them to return to their site. Yes it is a pain, but this person may not see you as an authority figure who can dictate to them. Let the park staff do the heavy lifting. It's their job to help maintain peace in the park.

RE: Warped Attitude

For me, I think it became prominent when the Dear Marcus forums first appeared. New members (1 to 5 posts) who posted a problem there are routinely spanked by holier than thou types who would almost immediately admonish them as bashing CW - whether the OP's issue is valid or not. These 'spankers', as I call them, aren't contributing to the conversation one bit. It seems that this attitude is carrying over into the other forums where an OP starts a thread and leaves out helpful details or has not well thought out what they are trying to say - and instead of trying to help the OP with leading questions to get more details so that they can be helped, the OP get spanked/admonished into silence and/or the thread gets hijacked. I would be OK with the admins physically deleting such posts (especially from the Dear Marcus forums) that do nothing but admonish the OP for starting the thread - and to do it without comment. Maybe when folks see their OP-bashing replies disappearing it'll persuade them to refrain from posting them in the future.

RE: Surge Guard Universal Lock ??

or, better yet, install a Surge Protector inside the RV. It won't be stolen and you won't forget it hanging on the post or forget to connect it for an overnight stay. The downside is "installation required". When the Surge Protector does its job and blow up you can't easily disconnect the shore cable from it and bypass it or quickly replace it. I'm a little confused with this Surge Guard Universal Lock. Looks to me like if someone wanted to steal it just unplug it from the power post and then unplug the 50 Amp cable from the trailer and walk off with it. Or am I missing something here?? Click here: Surge Guard Lock It's 100% plastic. I have one of them. I don't use it. A pry bar can defeat the hinge and break it open. Even if the thief does not have the tools to break it open, they only need to disconnect it from the pedestal and lay it on the ground and then take about 15 second with a hack saw to cut off your shore power cable. If it gives you peace of mind then by all means buy it. RVs are not well designed for security. On most RVs the basement doors can be popped open with a screwdriver faster than with using the key.

RE: reservation system?

A Good Sam park is a marketing affiliation. The Good Sam Companies do not own the parks, do not have a say in the management of the parks, they do not take reservations or otherwise engage in the operations of any park. Each park is privately owned and each park handles their own reservations, web pages and any other advertising. Does that mean Resorts of Distinction is a sham? You may request a reservation at any of our outstanding resorts, by booking one through your MyROD account by clicking here. All reservation information will be verified and you will be contacted with a confirmation. If you do not receive a response to your reservation request within 48 hours, please call our Customer Service Department at 1-800-720-7633. Seems to me that affiliated parks can access a common reservation system.

RE: Majestic owners - check your cigarette lighter

Thanks for the heads up on fuse. I also changed my plugs today. What a hassle, if I still have it the next 70,000 miles I'm paying to have it done. Book calls for 2.90 hours but sometimes they break a few plugs depending on what year you have. Both my "power port" and cig lighter work. Maybe I lucked out on mine. I changed the rear end grease and it was almost new but still put in new. Still over $100.00 bill doing it myself. Royal purple 75w-140 is 20.00 a quart! Clue to the newer diff oil was newer gasket stuff and a brand new shiny axle tube. And noticed the rubber bushing for the sway bar was not put back on after axle tube replacement. And something I have been putting off is a coolant change and I understand that is real important for the triton type design engines. That will be next. Check the condition of your brake fluid. Your MH may have seen some very hard driving. I had all of the fluids replaced at the same time - coolant, brake, lube oil filter, transmission fluid and filter, fuel filter, differential (it was black sludge), and genset oil and filter change. You said I will be looking to buy a cigarette lighter dummy plug to protect the socket. I have found a new use for mine. I saw a cheap (under $10.00) a gadget that plugs into lighter socket and gives a reading if alternator is charging and condition of chassis battery, just little LED lights and sticks out about 2 inches but what a perfect knob to hang the litter bag on.http://www.harborfreight.com/12-volt-battery-alternator-tester-66842.html Read the reviews, seems pretty good for price. Thanks again That looks nice. I wish it had an ON/OFF switch so that I could leave it permanently in the socket without it drawing power when I'm not using it. Now that I have a live, exposed socket I want to put a dummy plug in it as insurance against a liquid spill while driving. Getting a cigarette lighter would probably be the easiest route, but I don't smoke and am not keen on the idea.

RE: Majestic owners - check your cigarette lighter

Mocoondo, I agree that it is a very good business decision to disable the cigarette lighter socket. I'm just glad that I found out about it before I go on a long trip and have a breakdown and the tech/mechanic is befuddled as to why they can't get a port scan to work. I would submit for consideration that when a CA unit is retired from the rental fleet and put up for sale that a 1-page insert be included in the P&S that informs the buyer that OBD port and cigarette lighter socket share the same fuse and that in the event that the cigarette lighter socket has no power then it's fuse may be missing or may need to be replaced for the OBD port to function. If it's too much for CA techs to re-enable the cigarette lighter on the motorhomes being sold then CA could tape a new fuse to that insert and let the buyer choose to inspect/replace the fuse at their pleasure. I think that giving the buyer a heads-up about the OBD port at the time of purchase would be a good thing.

Majestic owners - check your cigarette lighter

This is a pic of my 2004 E450. It did not come with a cigarette lighter and the socket for it was not working. That was fine with me. I plugged my phone into the power port just above it. Last Thursday I had all 10 spark plugs replaced (the OE plugs only had 112,000 miles on them). When the job was finished the Check Engine light came on (it was a poorly seated coil pack). The tech plugged in a OBD scanner into the OBD port and got nothing. It turns out that the fuse for the cigarette lighter (which is also used for the OBD port) was missing. The tech installed a fuse and the OBD port worked fine. I can't speak for CA but my guess is that they like to deactivate the cigarette lighter socket because it does not shut off with the ignition and leaving something (like a GPS) plugged into it could draw down the chassis battery over time to the point of not being able to start the truck. I will be looking to buy a cigarette lighter dummy plug to protect the socket. http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8298/7937529958_da6722f844_z.jpg

RE: Another question on residency

It is not well documented, but it exists. A visit to an Oregon DMV office may be helpful. http://www.oregon.gov/ODOT/DMV/pages/faqs/sb1080.aspx http://library.state.or.us/repository/2009/200904201057461/index.pdf http://www.opb.org/news/article/providing-dmv-proof-youre-who-you-say-you-are/ Continuous Traveler An applicant who travels continuously may use a residence address of "continuous traveler" if the applicant is a resident of or domiciled in Oregon but has no physical home in Oregon. For instance, an applicant who has retired from an Oregon employer may present papers indicating he/she sold a home in Oregon and purchased a motor home.

I drove 273.8 miles from Spirit Mountain Casino in Grand Ronde, OR to Wilhhorse Casino in Pendleton, OR. I used 30.073 gallons (US) of gas and got 9.1 MPG (BTW, I had the spark plugs changed last Thursday)

RE: Checking out El Monte rental sales

Actually yes the price is low in comparison to local prices, however, it is NADA Average Retail. I guess you are all correct, make an offer and see where it goes. What I really like about the rig is that functionally is reminds me of an "A". There is a lot of outside storage, the one big, three door rear compartment is not there. The rigs with that storage have raised the bed so high my DW needs a stool to get into bed at night. She hates that feature. So maybe this weekend she'll go look with me. If there is no basement door on the back of the MH - AND - if the foot of the bed lifts up for under-bed storage then the MH is likely configured like mine, with the water tank against the back wall of the MH, under the head of the bed.

RE: Links to spam

Some websites have keyword advertising. As you move the mouse over those words a balloon message pops up with a short ad and a link. When you move the mouse past that word the balloon will disappear. I agree with 1492. It sounds like you have some advertising bot attached to your browser via a browser plugin or browser extension.
