Power Awning?

We just lost our stowed awning in a violent thunderstorm yesterday and are considering replacing it with a power awning. Thought being that we'll use it more if it can be deployed with the press of a button.
Any advice as to brand or features? Is the wind sensor worth it? We've heard
conflicting opinions. We weren't particularly satisfied with the Carefree awning
that came with the rig. The fabric faded badly and the hardware wore somewhat.
Is Dometic any better?
Any and all comments appreciated.

RE: boxed curtain valances

I just removed every one out of our 5er. Every one had Pan/Phillips head screws. Look up under the valance, use a flashlight if needed and you will see that there are 2 to 4 screws either screwed directly into the wall/cabinet or using "L" brackets with 2 to 4 screws. I tried to make it harder that what it actually was at first. Think simple and you will find the answer on these things.
We kept the top headers in the living room, but removed everything in the bedroom and the side pieces everywhere. It visually really opens up the space, we think.

RE: RVing to New York City

Best park is at Croton on Hudson and is about 50 minutes train ride to Grand Central in midtown Manhattan. Nice park right on the Hudson river and least expensive.

RE: Too old to continue traveling ? Grown children urging ..

Everybody's different. We didn't come out till I was 69 and I had never driven anything more than a car. We've been out 7 years now, have been all over North America, towed over 65,000 miles and still going strong. I'll park it when I feel I'm not up to it any more, or my wife tells me it's time, not before.
Go for it - you only live once.

RE: Gas/service station with ample in and out space????

Most gas stations are filled by semis. I did that for 17 years. I haven't found one yet I couldn't get in with my 5er. Its much smaller than any of my semis were, and will turn much tighter.
I agree, we just eyeball the station before going in, and in 7 years I can count on one hand those we had to pass up. It's not an issue, it's all in your head. :)

RE: Buying new F 350 diesel how often do you

On my "02 7.3L it is recommended every 5,000 miles and that is what I do & I use Shell Rotella T 15-40 diesel oil. :)
We've got 140 K on it and we still follow the procedure.

RE: Camp hosting - biggest hassle

Should have told the dog owner that if the ranger came out he would give her a ticket also for the dog off leash. Bet that would have changed her mind.

RE: Need Slide Motor/Gearset for Carriage Cameo

You might pose that question on the Yahoo Carriage group forum, it's been discussed a few times. http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/Carriage_RV/
They used to be supplied by a company in California.

RE: Rv Parks/Resorts in the Ft. Myers, Florida area

We're just finishing 2 months at Seminole Campground in North Fort Myers. One of the nicest CG's we have ever been in and we are approaching 400 in 7+ years. Highly recommend it.

RE: Great Camping Near Airports?

Be careful what you ask for. :) It just so happens that Dockweiler Beach RV Park is very close to (if not immediately under) a glide-path for LAX just south of Los Angeles. It seems like, in California, they like to put RV parks right next to airports. That one is not the only example.
We spent a week there a few years ago and loved it. It's right on the ocean with a bike/walking path that goes 10 or 15 miles in either direction. The noise from the airport is not bothersome.

RE: Exaust Brakes

I did some research 7 years ago when we first came out and I remember reading that you couldn't put an exhaust brake on engines withy hydraulic lifters, and that is what my Ford has so I abandoned the idea. Gotta say we have been all over and all the mountain ranges and haven't had a problem with the stock engine The tow/haul feature downshifts the engine nicely.
Good luck,
