RE: Campground for Udvar-Hazy

Bull Run Regional Park is pretty close. They accept big rigs and have water/electric hookups. Call them at 703-631-0550 for more info. There are a few Walmarts close by as well. Not too many commercial campgrounds that are close to the area.
As far as parking at Udvar-Hazy, you had better give them a call as well. I don't remember seeing any RVs in the parking lot when I visited. The museum is free, parking is $15.

RE: Towing with a Tiffin

Towing 4 down does not add any significant weight to the hitch or rear axle. I know several Tiffin owners who tow pickups. Enjoy your Tiffin and your truck.

RE: Towing Honda Fit

If your braking system needs 12V then a battery disconnect is probably not a good idea. A fuse switch or a charging line (like the ToadCharge) are better solutions.

RE: Beware of Flying J

I had this happen back in 2006. This is normal Indiana fuel tax laws. Truckers prepay their fuel taxes and the price you see advertised for truckers has no fuel tax added. RV's and other non-commercial vehicles who do not pre-pay fuel taxes have to pay them at the pump.
Best advice - buy diesel in another state.

RE: Windshield shade/sun screen

We already have power window shades for the windshield but you really need something more to block the heat and light.
Visit your local favorite home improvement center and spend so time in the insulation isle. You should see rolls of 4' wide silver mylar insulation. About $35 later and you have a way to insulate your windshield and side windows from the sun. For our motorhome, we use the material at full width for the windshield (which happens to be 4' tall) and just slide it up under the power shade area. If you need to, you can also use Velcro to mount it.
Heat gain (and loss) drops really fast with that stuff in place.

RE: Oil change

You need to change your oil at least once a year. Your anti-freeze needs to be changed per Cat's maintenance schedule. Usual intervals for other manufacturer's are 1, 5, or 7 years. Since you have a 2005 you need to have it changed - and while you are at it, it is time for new tires.
Seven years for tires is pushing it. They will age out far earlier then you will ever wear them out. This means you are far more likely to have sidewall failures and blowouts.

RE: Allegro 36LA? Good and Bad

Perhaps you might want to check out the Tiffin forum for issues with various Tiffin coaches. There seem to be a number of problems from cracked roof rails, rotting wet bays, slide issues, and other design and construction flaws.
Old news. Roof rails are a problem in pre-2012 coachs with full fiberglass roofs and are covered by an extended warranty. Wet bays were changed in, I believe, 2011 and earlier coachs are also covered by an extended warranty. Same story on slide issues (floor problems) again covered.
Not sure of any other design and construction problems although all makers seem to have them. What makes Tiffin standout is their willingness to fix problems even when the coach is out of warranty.
Better, more up to date information can be found at the Tiffin RV Network

RE: I did something wrong!

You don't have to have brakes on toad
I always thought that Canada was far more restrictive on braking requirements for towed vehicles/trailers than the States. I guess not.
My opinion has always been Safety First. The laws of physics still apply north of the border. Why take a chance when Toad braking is easy to install and operate?

RE: honda fit automatic as a toad

I just looked online at the official Honda Fit web site for the 2013 Fit owner's manual. The manual makes no reference to recreational towing. The only reference to four down towing is entitled "Emergency Towing".
When we were looking for a toad I called Honda's 800 customer service number and inquired about four down for the Fit. I was told the only 2013 Honda that can be recreational towed is the CR-V. A visit to the Honda dealer yielded the same answer.
Anyone have anything in writing to contradict this?
Sorry you got bad information. Since the Fit is made in Japan, I can see where the American office didn't have a clue. Honda Fits have been towable four down with automatics since they were introduced. Great toads, btw.

RE: First trip in Allegro 32BA

You can use rvparkreviews.com to find campgrounds that have been rated by actual people like yourself. Good Sam has a camping guide available that's pretty good as well. It may be available in your local book store.

RE: Honda CRV battery

Google ToadCharge system. The kit contains everything you need to connect your motorhome to your toad including all needed wiring, circuit breaker, and charge regulator. Does it work? I forgot to turn off my radio and fan in my Fit; towed for 4 hours, and had no problems whatsoever.

RE: cats

Our litter boxes hang out under the bed overhang. Our male cat causes problems with conventional litter boxes as he likes to pee standing up. The fix was to make our own litter boxes out of 55 qt storage boxes with a 6" hole cut or drilled in one end. No leaks, minimal mess, and odor control - and cheaper than commercial cat boxes.

RE: How critical

BlueOx recommends +/- 3". Why don't you pull your motorhome and toad to a parking lot and then you can easily check the height? You have a 6" drop receiver but if that is too much, you can easily get a 2" or 4" drop receiver.

RE: Tiffin 36LA 2013 - Questions and concerns

Once you do your homework and see if Tiffin did forget to install something, your dealer should handle the repair. If you wish to contact Bob Tiffin, pick up the phone. He does not use e-mail.
So what was your TV question/problem? I'm curious.

RE: Allegro 43TGA cabin wind noise, source?

Take some tape and tape over the weep holes in your driver and passenger side windows (at the bottom channel of the window). Also make sure your sliding front windows are latched.

RE: Feedback on Allegro

We have not missed dual pane windows in ours. Our fifth wheel had dual panes but they were a bit more robust than the dual pane windows that motorhomes end up with. Tiffin uses 1/4" thick windows and they are as quiet as our old fifth wheel.

RE: Help me decide how to take the Honda crv behind the class a

Four down is the easiest way to go - especially since you own a vehicle that can easily be towed 4 down. You are going to need a few things to convert it, however. The are:
1) a base plate (multiple companies out there, I use BlueOx)
2) a wiring kit for the lights (you an either add lights or use a diode system. I like TowDaddy and they probably have a kit for your vehicle)
3) a braking system (does your MH have air brakes or hydraulic? For air brakes, the SMI Air Force 1 system or the M&G systems are good choices. If you have hydraulic brakes you can use brake in the box systems (I like RVi brake) or more permanent installations like the SMI DUO system)
4) a tow bar (again, there multiple choices. I use a BlueOX tow bar which is really easy to use with their base plates)
5) safety cables and the like
While it might sound complicated, it really is easy to get the car ready to tow. Pull up behind your motorhome, attach the tow bars, electrical lead, brake away cable, and safety cables. Prep you car per the instructions in your owners manual and drive away - and all of that takes about 5 minutes.

RE: I pad Verizon month to month data plan

Just in case you did not know.......the iPad comes with internal setup for AT&T or Verizon. You have to pick one when you order. They might be swapped later on, not sure.
The iPad uses a SIM card and all you have to do to switch carriers is get the new SIM card from that carrier.
