RE: Pre Trip Checks

Here in Texas, our camping season is ending, because for a rig to be campable from May to October, it requires full time electricity and A/C for most of the day, and it doesn't really cool down until 9-10 at night.

RE: Traveling in Tornado prone areas

Don't be nervous. There is far more risk of some drunk wrecking into you than there is with getting hit by a twister.
If worried, I'd call ahead -- a lot of places have reinforced bath houses just in case this happens.
I've lived in tornado country all my life. Tornados are an issue, but they are not something to worry yourself sick over. Plain old lightning is far more dangerous.

RE: Hymer first European RV maker to build in the US

Not surprising. HYMER has a lot of experience on the Ducato/ProMaster, but in the US, they would have to retool to either the E450 platform or the Sprinter (and compete in a very saturated high end market due to the price premium.)
For them, they have all the fiberglass molds, CAD files needed to upfit Ducatos with furniture, as well as the electrical schematics they have developed. They just need to set up a shop somewhere in the US, contract with a local mill and other suppliers, and they could be up and upfitting in a short time.
I am eager to see what they produce. Ducato chassis offerings are very RV friendly (in fact, Fiat has a site for those, fiatcamper.com.) With this in mind, I can see HYMER making a fast market dent. Especially in today's market where fuel economy is important.
Of course, there are some things that European campers don't have which US motorhomes do, for example air conditioners and generators. I'm sure it won't be too much of an engineering hassle for HYMER to deal with those things.

RE: Eternabond cleanup

I'd consider using Eternacaulk or a clear (not silicon) caulk on the edges so they don't get dirty. Dirty edges don't affect functionality, just looks.

RE: "Pocket Hose" reviewed on Consumer Reports

It can't be used for drinking water (no words certifying it safe for potable use.)
It can't really be used for the macerator pump exit, because a leak while emptying tanks could be a disaster.
Only possible use I can think that I would use it for would be the hose that fits between two check valves that would rinse out the macerator pump.

RE: stealth in a excel/wide body?

I've not heard of anyone complaining about Excels with regard to width. They are a couple inches wider, just like the Roadtrek 210s, but they don't fill the full 100 inches like some B+ rigs do.
Length-wise, an Excel is about 19-20 feet, so should fit in a normal parking space.
The only real way to find out is to test drive one, or just see how it fits in a parking space.
As for stealth parking, it still looks like a van, because of the way it tapers from back to front. However, the vents and awning will give it away to anyone familiar with "B"s.

RE: Roadtrek water pump

Can't hurt to replace with a variable speed Shurflo water pump, which helps on noise.

RE: Extended Storage of Camper

I'd keep the tires inflated. Getting the trailer load off may put weight on frame areas that can crack.

RE: What Is This?

Extend a stay kit and a 20# propane bottle, perhaps with a propane stove?

RE: roof

I've heard great things about rvroof.com. I just wish they had more than just one location in Florida to go to, since their product completely solves one of the major nasty issues with RVs out there. If RV dealers could spray this on every rig, it would go far in solving one of the nastiest problems there is with RV-ing in general. Of course, it would have to be touched up if a branch scrapes it, but nothing is 100%.

RE: There is not many places like this left

I remember bridges like that going over the Colorado River at 183 in Austin, going over the Colorado over Bastrop, and finally over the Colorado yet again in La Grange. The 183 bridge still is in use, feeding cars from Lamar/Montopolis, the Bastrop bridge is now a pedestrian walkway, and I am not curious of what the fate is of the bridge in La Grange now.

RE: Costco! champion 3100w genny

There is a place in Austin that sells Boliys upfitted with extended run tanks and remote start. It might be quite a usable unit, although they don't have a large parts/service network.

RE: Samsung Refer Install Over Propane Heater (Height Issues)

Top notch work. I wonder why rig makers don't just spec the Samsung, a MSW inverter, and a decent battery bank from the outset, and leave the absorption fridges in the past as historical curiosities. Makes everyone involved happier.
To boot, it takes two hours to get to the operating temperature, not overnight, and your beer gets cold fast (the important part.)

RE: Signs of the Times

I don't get why texting gets little to no penalties while driving, while the legal limit for alcohol is going to 0.05 BAC soon in all states... which for some means that one drink will make someone arrestable. I rather deal with people functioning at 0.06 BAC than people texting on the roads.
I feel old... when I first got a two way pager, a couple co-workers and I discussed among ourselves who would be stupid enough to compose a reply on it while driving, because it is just as bad as driving with one's eyes closed. Fast forward to today where almost every situation where I have to honk the horn, the other driver's head ends up lifting up (which means they had focus on a device, not what is around them.)

RE: Majestic Tourer

The good thing about a propane generator is that it doesn't get clogged with varnish, although it is a good idea to run it to keep the windings clean.
Downsides is that propane tends to be harder to find than gasoline, and since propane has less energy than gasoline, it gets used up fairly quickly.
As for cassette toilets, they might work in Europe, but they are somewhat hard to dump into a normal dump station hole because they weigh 60-70 pounds. Because they do splash, CG owners hate people emptying them in the bathrooms. I prefer the ease of a black tank, although both are far better than recirculating toilets which require draining, then pre-charging of the system again with fresh chemicals and water.

I like how the Yamahas have a fuel petcock, which means that you can run the carb bowl dry for storage.

RE: A question about PDA.net

I wonder if there was a Verizon or AT&T provider nearby. I do know AT&T has its own wireless networks in Starbucks which might have a gateway. For me, the phone hops on and works without issue, but others have to go through the steps of registering and paying to use Wi-Fi in some places.
