RE: A/C water down the outside

Just lay down a bead of caulk on the roof to "guide" the water to one of corners. Doesn't take much the channel AC water, won't do much for diverting rain water.

RE: picking gas stations

We have one absolute rule and that is to NEVER pull into anyplace that I cannot see an EXIT. Period. This includes CG offices, state and national parks as well.
It is much safer and easy to stop SHORT than to pull in and have to figure a way out. THE WIFE will exit the truck and go find the exit-----if it exists.
Our experience.
CCC
Great rule...
It took a long time to realize that it's much better to slow down to a crawl before making that turn into a gas station and check it out before committing. I don't care if I block traffic for a millisecond or two, sometimes I will put the flashers on to be courteous to those directly behind me.

RE: Drip Pot Diesel Stove

I had a 66M on my 1969 Albin Vega 27' sailboat (Swedish) and it worked very well at least compared to my alcohol kitchen stove and my Volvo MD6-A single cylinder diesel engine with rope start.
Trust me I never left port without my full toolbox.
Come to think of it I never left port that often.

RE: The Emotions in a TC

We sold the Northstar Laredo about 4 years ago and went with a 25' 5th wheel, no regrets.....
It's small enough to fit in any campground and when we get the wanderlust to take that "small road" to see where it goes we just un-hitch and go. I can hitch/unhitch in less than 3 minutes easy peezy compared to the TC which took a lot longer. After a few years I have learned to back up and maneuver the 5th wheel to the point where it's second nature, no more yelling and screaming with the DW as she directed me:B I don't miss driving in cross winds with the Laredo, sometimes the TC/truck combo had a mind of it's own the 5th wheel on the other hand tracks like it's on rails.
The ability to stay in one spot for 2 weeks and not dump the tanks (we have done it) is worth it's weight in gold. We have 2-36 gallon grey and one 38 gallon black with an 80 gallon fresh. I won't even discuss the 5 gallon black tank of the cassette toilet.
When it comes to storing the fiver I pay the same for outside storage as I did with the TC. And I take the pins out holding the hitch in place so when I pull away the hitch stays with the camper and I have a flat bed to use, so I have full use of the bed.
A full size shower, galley, bedroom and lounge and 18' awning is priceless and more room for storage then we even need ! and that's for a 2 month cross country trip.
We are both avid hikers, bikers and love to do the touristy things as well so we don't spend that much time in the camper but for those rainy, cold, and windy stretches staying indoors is no burden.
With that being said I would love to get another TC if the funds where available but it still wouldn't be our primary camper only an occasional weekend getaway unit. We do mourn the ability to just pull into a town drive a round and park and be home anywhere.
To each his own.....

RE: De-Ox-It's usefulness

There used to be a product I got at West Marine that worked great. It was a spray and left a slightly blue film on the contacts.
Of course I forgot the products name.....but it does work good.

Anything for an Android phone running Google Maps???
Some type of RV or truck data added to Google Maps would be great.

RE: Wireless HDMI?

OP back, it appears that the AllShare by Samsung is what I'm looking for....except that the tablet I'm interested in is the Google Nexus 10.
From what others are saying Google might be coming out with their own version. It might be worth the wait.
As a matter of fact it's called Chromekey and will be out in August for $35...It attaches to your TV via a HDMI cable and to your local net via Wifi and your phone or tablet can stream to the TV wirelessly.

RE: Wireless HDMI?

The ActionTec seems like it would work for my application but after hooking up the transmitter box to the tablet with the associated AC brick and cables etc., it's not so wireless if you get what I mean:B
The connections on the TV side aren't an issue.
My meager search results show that Bluetooth is just to slow for HD video content so that's out.
Maybe there is a way to connect the internal wireless card to the TV?
The ioGear looks perfect except the ioGear needs to run software on laptop side so my Android based tablet isn't going to work. I will check iOgear on that software requirement

RE: Yamaha 2000 generator extended run tanks

I know they normally won't pull from an auxiliary tank (like the Honda's ) at the same level but it might work if you keep the aux tank higher??

Wireless HDMI?

I'm getting a new tablet (Galaxy 10 32g) which has a micro HDMI output plug, I know they make adapter plugs from mini to standard HDMI but I would like to go wireless to the TV.
Ideally I would like to use Bluetooth/out on the tablet side then to a Bluetooth/HDMI on the TV side.
Do they make something like that or will I need separate boxes on both ends?
If a separate box is needed on the tablet side does anyone have any recommendations for one?
This would be something I could use in the camper as well as home.
Thanks

RE: JT's Elephant Foot Jack Pads

Why the need for pads at all?
Maybe my 25' 5th wheel is light but I NEVER have used anything under my landing gear pads (unless it's to help level)
Even my scissor jacks in the rear.
KISS principal.

RE: USPS Premium Forwarding Service

First thing I did was set up any bills on autopay, so I don't even get those when I'm not on the road. I can access my bank account on line to check. The remaining mail isn't critical, but may be important. I put my mail on hold at the post office, but they'll only hold it for 30 days. I filled out an authorization form to allow a friend to pick up my mail once a month and open anything that looks important. That hasn't happened yet. :)
Are you sure about the USPS not holding mail longer than one month? I seem to remember a fw years back when we went cross country they held it much longer than that. I think we just had to fill out 2 forms in advance?
thanks

RE: Grease inside brakes

I never had any luck cleaning off grease soaked linings, at least the cheap ass linings that came with the camper. They were very black in color and never lightened up after multiple cleanings with brake cleaner.
Now I never took the linings out and did everything in place which might explain it but I just don't think so.
Rather than play around anymore with them I just bought 4 new HD self adjusting brake assembles from Etrailer and now the brakes are better than new.

RE: What do you tie your awnings down with?

Never use any type of strap or hold down for awning.
It just makes it harder to pull in the awning when a storm hits. Trying to hold it down is a waste of time and hold downs give you a false sense of security, when you get up in the morning sure your awning frame will still be there but your awning won't.

RE: Re-packing bearings

AL-KO manual (0.001"-0.010" end
play)
If any of you researched the bearing specifications -the above range of adjustment would be found. These bearings need some play but at the tight end of the range is not in the "feel" range to most. I shoot for .002 or so but will accept up to 0.010 depending on how the particular axles locking style dictates. I do use a dial indicator too. Easy/peasy with a mag mount.
The hub cavity should never be packed full -even with the zerk lube axles offered by Dexter, Al-ko, reliable, QEP/Rockwell, LCI or whomever. Hub cavity needs enough grease to prevent corrosion at a minimum. Beyond that is just a waste.
I agree, another reason not to load up with grease before putting the drum back on is because when you slide the drum back on you may pick up some of that extra grease on the grease seals and push it into the brake assembly area where it might get on the linings.

RE: TrailAir Kingpin question

Where is the best place to buy a TrailAir?
I'm not concerned with front back clunking my biggest issue is up and down "chucking" ?
So I'm assuming this is the type of kingpin adapter to get?
