RE: Residential Fridge

We stock our residential refregerator full when we leave home. The only shelf we had problems with stuff moving and possibly falling out when we opened the door was the top shelf, so I put a case of water in it's plastic case container on that shelf and store items around it as we use the water. No problems since. You'll get use to stocking it to keep any movement at a minimum. Just need the " Beer" not to slide around. I only drink bottled beer, keep a six pak carton full on bottom shelf turn it so bottle necks are facing back of fridge when traveling, no surprises when opening the door. If you use cans and have residential fridge get a soda can holder.

RE: Just wondering Why?

What we have gained are Pacific Ocean views, snow capped mountains, vast open spaces, hidden lakes and sparking waterfalls, wildlife in natural settings. Yeah not a bad way to live.

RE: Changing Dr Lic and address question

We are about ready to hit the road! We've sold our house and bought our travel trailer. We have a question for the FT Rvers. Of course, our drivers license and registrations all have our old house address. Looking for suggestions on what we do next. We will be using our kid's address for mail and such. Should we just leave our drivers license the same or change it the new address. I know we have to have verification for DMV and don't really have anything except mail. Any suggestions for us? Thanks, Nick If your changing licences, tags, voting registration to sons/daughters address you should have no problem. I've never had a change of address in state questioned at the DMV. It's not like moving to new state and if questioned just say your moving in with the kids to help out.

RE: fridge again

We run ours on propane while traveling. I always stop before pulling up to the fuel pumps and shut it off at the refrigerator to prevent any ignition problems of vapors at the pump.

RE: Having Mail Forwarded: Suggestions?

I know a lot of you get snail mail sent to their addresses while they're on the road. Can anyone recommend a decent service? A buddy of mine told me to check out http://postscanmail.com, but I haven't had time to look at it yet. Looks a bit pricey if you receive much mail, I didn't read all the details but I would say there are many mail forwarding services that would be less expensive.

RE: Question about slides

Three slides here kitchen, living room and bedroom. No problem with wind or water infiltration. Would go with more if the right floorplan had them.

RE: Snake!!!

Never met a pit viper other than in a glass case till we volunteered in Texas last year where we had the pleasure to meet all four varieties. Copperhead while weed whacking, rattler while walking the dog just stretched out across the two track, coral on a ridge top during a bird survey, and several cottonmouths down near the creek. None of them wanted anything to do with me nor me with them, they went their way I went mine, as it should be.

RE: Domicile SD

Are you both retiring at the same time? If one of you retire or leave employment when you purchase the MH that one could become a SD resident and register the MH while the other continues employment. Talk to a lawyer I pounded nails for a living.

RE: How to become a workamper

Although I have a number of years until I am "of age" to consider workamping, how does one get a job or volunteer at a destination? I am interested in the area of the east coast for vacation destinations. Trying to plan my future I guess Thanks We once had that same question. You are planning for the future so there will be plenty of time to answer it. We decided to find a camp hosting close to home for our first camp hosting position. We looked to our state park system, followed the instructions on the DNR site for application and then contacted local, within two hr drive, campgrounds. This was in late winter for summer hosting. Three of the parks contacted had openings for the summer season and we went with the closest. Since we were new to RV living this allowed us to see what we needed and what we did not. We then desired to host in Florida for the winter and again we went to there state park site and followed their instructions for volunteering. Although you are required to file with the state volunteer coordinator you are urged to contact the local park VC's. Many want the southern Florida host positions and there are more applicants than positions and many return year after year. We went with more northern parks and had a reply in short order. So here is your game plan, start goggling state park websites most will have a "Get Involved" or "Volunteer" link, follow them. I also have a "state park bookmark" for them. I also have one for "Volunteering" where I keep links for http://www.volunteer.gov/, and local contacts we have contacted or volunteered with. Vol.gov has many but not all the volunteer positions that are available. Some are for RV volunteers and some are for local volunteers for local events or other needs of various federal and state agencies. This should give you a starting point and as you say you have some time before retirement.

RE: Can I get 35' 5th wheel into a lot of natural spots?

We have a 35 ft 5er hitch to back cap. We prefer state, federal, campgrounds. Some we do not fit but we've stayed in many that had plenty of room for us. We check out parks through reserve america or state reservation websites for campgrounds we will fit.

RE: Sliders

Don't have a MH but our fifth wheel has a kitchen slide, contains fridge, stove, sink, and entertainment center. We haven't had any problems with it.

RE: Black Tank Issue

I have been having a terrible time with our Black Tank for a year or so! When we are camping for a couple of days first when you press the pedal down to flush it has a blup & then it goes down and then every time you flush it gergels for a few minutes. After another day or so the waste is visible and I have to use my hose that is made to clear clogs. It buys me another couple days is all. I know it sounds like a Venting problem so I put a water hose down the Black Tank Vent on the roof a couple of feet, opened the dump valve with a clear piece on my dump hose and then turned the water on. Yep, it came out thru the hose, so to me that meant the vent was clear, right? So I figured it would be good now. Went camping last weekend & it was the same! OK, smart guys, what is going on? Bob Are you hooked up to sewer and if so do you leave the black tank valve open?

RE: Do Any of you NOT Level Off Ever or Rarely?

I try for 1/2 degree side to side even for an overnight. Front to back we try not to unhitch so prefer park nose down so I can jack it level or close to it without unhitching. On rare occasions we find a site where a little moving around will get it perfect.

RE: Interesting - New Excel with Door in the Slide

Not a lite coach 15000+ dry 18750 GVW. Size and $'s,it's not what your weekend camper is looking for. This is a fulltimers or snowbird 5er and most likely be resort bound. If it catches on you'll see more by the Indiana builders.
