RE: leveling and slide out

Either way works fine... you won't do any damage to slides or jacks.
Congrats on your new RV, Have fun in it.

RE: Portable Satelite Dish, Is renting a option

I'm assuming you mean the entire service not just the satellite antenna.
I'm sure some company probably offers temporary satellite services but I bet it is very expensive when compared to the month to month services.
Your best bet is to look at the reviews and postings on RV forums for the different satellite services to see which are rated high. Then look at the packages the companies offer and choose one to fit your needs. The monthly cost is around $100 for a full package and down past $50 for basics. This will give you TV services not cell services.
For cell services you need to look into amplifiers and external antennas which may draw in or improve weak signals in an area.
Keep in mind a lot of what you watch on TV and how you communicate is now happening over the internet so it may be better to look for some sort of internet solution.
We have been using our iPads and iPhone plus Netflix, Vudu and Hulu type services for our entertainment instead of satellite lately...it's getting to the point where WiFi and 4G will eliminate the need for satellite services.

RE: Another steep driveway question

In my opinion, with the TT in a static position you're not causing enough stress on the rear axle to worry about. If it was for weeks or months then I would look for a better solution. For a couple of days I wouldn't worry.
You probably do more harm to the suspension going over speed bumps in campgrounds or railroad tracks on the highway.

RE: Roof renewal products

After 19 years of my 5th wheel sitting in the sun it's time to look into coating the roof. Like you I have found the most expensive products are the ones recommended by everyone. These products are sold as solutions for RVs.
I started looking for products for recoating EPDM membranes and discovered Henrys Roofing products has a Cool White Coating (Henrys 280DC) for use on EPDM roofs. When you read the specs it sounds just like the Dicor, Eternabond and other "RV" coatings
Henrys also has a tape for repairs Henrys 297 as well as a sealant Henrys 288
It's a lot less expensive than the "RV" coatings. I plan to give it a try in a few months.

RE: Mosquitos!

I've heard that brewers yeast is good for keeping away mosquitos. So I guess that means drink lots of beer.
If you pay attention, folks that drink a lot of beer never seemed bothered by mosquitos...in fact they never seem bothered by anything.
Anyway the story goes if you ingest brewers yeast it causes a smell to permeate from your skin that keeps mosquitos from landing.

RE: Norcold fridge/freezer. will it keep food frozen?

If it's working properly it will keep frozen foods frozen in the freezer. It's best not to overload the refrigerator and freezer. You want to load it so there is plenty of air space around the items in the freezer and refrigerator.
My wife always packs it full and then wonders why it's not keeping the food as cold as it should.
You may see a temperature rise when the sun is directly on the side where the refrigerator is located.

RE: brake issue

I would guess the inner seals have leaked either due to bad seals, wrong type of grease or over greasing.
The drums and magnet can be cleaned but the shoes maybe too soaked with grease and need to be replaced.

RE: porch light lens replacement

Plan B- find an Independent RV Supply store that has been in business for a long time. They may have one.
Plan C- if you can get the manufacturer and part number for your light fixture and contact an RV Salvage company to see if they would have a lens.
Plan D- Replace with an LED upgrade.

RE: what would you get?

I would get a million dollar bus and hire a driver, cook and maid. The cook and maid would travel along in a separate (less expensive) RV with a Rolls Royce toad for sight seeing trips.

RE: Waste water question

I have a head on my sewer hose that provides a second garden hose connection. On the grey tank from my kitchen I have a cap with a garden hose connection, I run a garden hose from the cap to the sewer hose head. I leave the valve for the kitchen tank open.
The sewer hose connects to the drain for the black tank and the grey tank for the bathroom area. I leave the black tank valve closed (until it's nearly full) and the grey valve open.
Once in awhile the garden hose for the kitchen will clog. I just shoot water through it to remove the clog.

RE: Question about EPDM Rubber Roof and Phoenix Heat

We have a 38ft 5th wheel with a 15000 BTU unit from Duo Therm. In 115° heat it is 85° to 95° inside the RV from noon to sundown.
All windows have the mini blinds down and closed, all windows have awnings deployed and the patio awning is deployed. Door is kept closed as much as possible. The A/C runs 24 hours per day. We use small portable fans to blow air on the two of us.
That's the best we can do in that kind of heat.

RE: E450 handeling problems

Try a Steer Safe system. Many RVers have had good luck with it solving handling problems.
It's also great in case of a front tire blowout.

RE: Newb drowning in all the weight number, please help

A friend uses an older F250 to pull his 5th wheel and has no problem. His 5th wheel weighs nearly 10,000 lbs loaded.
You can expect 25 to 45 MPH up hills with 6 to 10% grades.

RE: "Corps of Engineers" Camgrounds? What's that?

Near Dams and other water projects there may be a campground built by the Army Corp of Engineers.
These are usually very nice campgrounds located near water.
Mostly located in the midwest to east coast.

RE: 1973 Holiday Rambler Vacationer

Most manufacturers place a sticker on the RV showing the weight. The sticker may be on the outside and/or on the inside of one of the cabinet doors. Your best bet is to take it to a local public scale and have it weighed.
A 2500 van should be rated as a 3/4 ton not 1/2 ton (1500). You shouldn't have any problem towing this TT. Many RVers were using Dodge vans to tow these types of trailers back in the 70 and 80's. Make sure the propane lines have been capped off properly unless you plan to replace the stove and heater.
A friend blew up their trailer due to the repair guy not capping off a propane line when he removed the stove to repair it.

RE: 2013 Kodiak AC

With 80 degree outside temps or higher you need to keep the door closed...kids are either in or out once. All awnings out for shade, window blinds down to block the sun and reflect heat, in addition to the A/C use a couple of portable fans to help circulate the air throughout the RV.
Once we convinced the kids to stay outside instead of going in and out our RV got so cold we had to change into long pants.
If we know the temps are going to be above 70 we start the A/C in the morning so the RV stays as cold as possible throughout the day.
We like it cold... our friends always say we could store meat in our RV and House.

RE: Boat or RV ?

RV will allow you to go to a variety of places and stay comfortably. You can always rent a boat when you get there or carry an inflatable like the Sea Eagle models.
Several RVers and boaters have started off fulltime in one and then after many years switched to the other. This couple has been RVing and have now switched to a motor yacht within the past few months.... http://ourodyssey.blogspot.com/
