RE: ~Post your campsite photos here~

Site C2, Sherando Lake Recreation Area near Lyndhurst, VA. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v516/JJB/3b39d66a-7c81-49b7-85df-45c9c82c3c4c_zpsd777abee.jpg Taken from the top of the upper lake dam. Visible are sites C1 thru C5. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v516/JJB/c7c6a3e1-a6c8-4c0c-a74e-74783a8bcce2_zps13aef305.jpg We had a bear in the CG one night, and he left his footprints on the side of our truck. Apparently there was nothing of interest in the truck bed. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v516/JJB/004_zpsbe822080.jpg Nice looking area!

RE: Ocean Lakes - RV washing companies

Lol I hear ya. Maybe hit one of the truck washes on the way there. I've heard they are in the $40-50 range for a wash. Save the wax for later.

RE: Dinghy towing question

Thanks mower mech. I know have seen the actual laws somewhere before online and go the life of me I couldn't find it. I think because I was looking through the DMV site mainly. So it is 4000 lbs (2 tons) and 1000 on house trailers. On section h it says no one can sell brake systems not approved by the commissioner. So should I assume that if dealers are selling it here in nc them it is approved? Or one would assume they are approved? Lol

RE: Motivating the DW

Take her to an rv dealer and see if she likes other type of units better. I know with the tt we had that my wife enjoyed our trips, but she didn't enjoy the preparing and worrying bout the big trailer behind the camper. She was never one to be jumping at the bits to go somewhere and to mention dry camping. Shut our mouth! But now with the motorhome sitting in the driveway, she loves it and looks or ward to going. Preparing is a lot easier and she doesn't worry about a trailer behind us or feel closed in one spot during the trip. And she is even talking and looking forward to dry camping.

RE: why would you do that?

Read about half the responses and not sure if this was covered. But another reason to use the campground showers is because you paid for it. Most RV parks/campgrounds charge you whether you use it or not. So why not? Otherwise you are wasting your money. Lol

RE: Almost embarrassed to ask....

Hi Bumpy, I'm at 103,000 kilometers (61,000 miles) and 9.5 years. No leaks. Class A is no assurance of zero roof leaks. I have the roof inspected every two years, for potential issues. No Eternabond needed yet. Just Dicor once. it's a fact, since I read it on the internet, that 99.87% of all Class Cs after 10.7 years of age and 75,000 miles have a 93% probability of leaking. so just be patient. :) bumpy Well it was o the Internet and has to be true. Lol Kidding aside, could it be the way the units were made back then? Perhaps the new front end caps on most of them now are differently made. On a side note, a friend with a 2010 travel trailer was camping and it started raining. She said water started pouring in around the vents and somewhere else around in the bedroom. This travel trailer is stored at the campground that she goes to all the time. I uses it can happe to even the best of them.

RE: A question on fuel for a E-450 ford chassis

I was a Ford tech for 25 years. These engines are designed for low octane fuel. The high octane fuel is "slower" burning. This will actually create carbon deposits in the combustion chamber. These carbon deposits will flake off and jam a valve open causing engine damage. I have seen it happen several times. What I've always heard.

RE: Used versus new

You ca do a cost analysis all day but the minute you go by it and select your unit based on it, it will turn out different. Just Murphy's law and all a gamble. You could get a used unit that goes to******the next day and you have no backing for it. You can also buy a new one that ends up being a lemon and you will have trouble from day one. It will be covered but will be a thorn in your side and you will not be able to enjoy your trip. I think it really comes down to personal preference. We prefer to buy new. Yes we end up spending more than what others spend on used units. But we prefer to have less worries in our mind that something is going to go wrong with it. With an older unit I will probably overlook something that is wrong or a potential problem. And with our limited schedule on camping, I don't want to have to worry about a trip being ruined. We also have the warranties and like the peace of mind. Another reason for not buying used for us is odors and fabrics. All the used units we have been in, stunk. I don't like used mattresses, but those can be replaced. Also, hopefully you will adopt the pyramid I your black tank. Now if I were retired and had time, the I would probably have a different mindset.

RE: I Thought The Economy Was Depressed

You may need to look in other areas. Perhaps willing to drive or fly to check one out. If you find an area where prices tend to be lower than your local area.

RE: Dinghy towing question

wbwood, I have a question for you, now: Where in NC laws did you find, read, that you are OK to tow less than 4,000 lbs without brakes, if its not a 'house' trailer? I coulda sworn last time I looked at NC laws, the cutoff was at 2,000 lbs, not 4,000. I could be wrong, though.. here and I want to say I saw it somewhere else too...but to be honest, I think there are differences among the sites. I tried looking for an official state of NC website quickly and couldn't find the answer there.

RE: How to mount a flat screen tv outside

Thanks but how is the mount connected to the inside wall? Screws? Into a stud or something?

RE: How to mount a flat screen tv outside

Our Class C has a storage bay with the tv hookups inside. I have a small 19" tv I want to use there. I know about the swing arm brackets, but how are you attaching to the inside walls? Should there be a stud or something to screw them in to? Use drywall anchors? Any special product to use?

RE: Poor service and excessicve charges atCamping World Syracuse

Why would any business charge you for a price qoute? Next they will charge admission to look around in the store. Some stores do! Try Sam's Club or Costco, or any other "membership" club.Hmmmm! Didn't think about that! Actually, that's not true...you don't have to be a member to look around. Just to purchase the items at the club discount.

RE: Poor service and excessicve charges atCamping World Syracuse

Why would any business charge you for a price qoute? Next they will charge admission to look around in the store. Question is, why would anyone pay for a price quote? You ask them for the price and they tell. Not let me see your credit card before I tell you the magic price. They should be giving you an entire price, including fees and surcharges and the buyer should be checking that before paying. Not saying CW wasn't in the worng.

RE: Merger of GS CW makes Rally an infomercial

I haven't been to a rally, but was described is what I would expect. If you have been around here or a member of Good Sam for at least a year or so, you should know all this to be true. No different than the RV shows with the vendors and seminars there. It is put on by Good Sam, you should expect them to be selling you more Good Sam. As far as price for the rally goes, they are offering discounts. A life member gets half off and if you bought an RV from them, then it's free as an Elite member. Even at $199, I think that is a fair price to pay to see Stars such as Reba McEntyre and coming in October in Atlanta it will be Vince Gill. Have you gone to concert lately? It will cost you $50 a ticket easily. Granted country is not everyones favorite, but it does attract probably the majority of the crowd. Yes most of them are older. I do agree about the part of attracting the younger crowd.

RE: For Those With Only Summer To Travel

Gas must be high where we live because we were there a couple years ago and I remember it not being too much higher than where we live. Within 20-30 cents a gallon. Just looked for Los Angeles and it's about 30 cents more a gallon there than here. (3.73 there and 3.43 by my house) Not too bad I think. I always estimate $4/gallon whenever planning an RV trip. Kind of balances out for high in some places and low in others.
