Went to a party long ago where they had a large shallow dish with sort of a taco dip in layers...cream cheese? sour cream? Salsa, Guacamole, chopped green onions, maybe refried beans mixed with meat, can't recall what else. I could not stop eating it! And it was pretty, too!

Clam dip, Ruffles, and beer! Has to be "homemade" clam dip, though. Lots of minced clams, sour cream, garlic, etc. No dip beats this for me.

I go for the spinach dip my HEB grocery store makes. Eaten with crackers, chips or celery.

"Avocado Dip"
I must start out by saying that until very recently I hated avocadoes. Yes, born and raised in CA, where a large %age of the avocado industry is and being near L.A. with the large Mexican food opportunities, I never acquired a taste for the mushy things, but a friend made an avocado dip that I tried, to be a good sport, of course, and I swear I have been making it myself ever since!!
There are no measurements-just do as you please with these ingredients:
avocado-I usually use two-chopped,not mashed
tomatoes-I do 2-3-chopped
red onion or green onion-chopped
cilantro-for me, LOTS!-chopped
salt
fresh lime or lemon juice-I prefer lime
And here's the secret yummy ingredient-CUMIN!

mix together all ingredients and add as needed to your taste. I personally like a lot of cumin in the recipe-it's got a very distinct flavor.
I have made this dish several times and it has always vanished before any other appetizery type stuff.
Enjoy!! Heather
