The picture of folks sitting around the campfire with sweaters and jackets on reminds me it was cool at nights and the fire felt good. Here at home lately we are enjoying cool weather especially at night when the temp drops into the lower 60's. We are getting the cool breezes coming from the mountains and it feels so good. We are having lots of rain and the grass and weeds are growing leaps and bounds.
On the way home we came over the Smoky Mountains outside Knoxville, Tennessee and Asheville, NC and it was so beautiful. The lush green canopy that covers the mountains is so refreshing. The Rocky Mountains are nice but they have a harshness about them with their rugged treeless appearance. The snow covered peaks however remind you are very high up and the summer season is very short. My cousin in Lewistown, Montana told me they only get to go camping about six times during the year because of the cold and snow that dominates their region. I wish we had been able to go into Glacier National Park while we were there, but maybe another time.
The scenery around Lewistown was beautiful with the mountains and rolling landscape. The pastures were very green as they had been getting lots of rain in that area of the state. The city of Lewistown was typical of a small western town. The store fronts were reminiscences of an era gone by in some of the town while other parts were more modern. Outside of town you knew you were in the West with its farm land and cattle. Sue and enjoyed our visit and would like to go back some day.

Good morning everyone. The girls are all well this morning and was very hungry when breakfast was served. We are having rain every day with cool temperatures, not what July in the South is really like, but we will enjoy it as long as it lasts.
Yesterday faternoon the horses across the way got out and trampled our neighbors yard and ate a lot of their flowers and stuff. They must be wanting to buy the property as they left a huge deposit on it.
The neighbors weren't home and I didn't see the owners of the horses cleaning up after them so I can imagine what a big surprise it must have been or will be when they get home.
Sue and I are still getting used to being home after being gone for a month. We leave again the 25th of August heading for Fort Lenoard Wood Missouri for Josh's graduation. This has been a busy summer and it will be a busy fall as well.
Has anyone heard from Don and Joy? I hope they got their coach repaired without much trouble. Walter I am glad your fur baby is eating well, she could use a few pounds, maybe she could take a few of mine. I gained three pounds the first three days I was home and have gotten rid of two of them. It is so hard to lose weight and keeo it off. Okay, time to go, talk with you later.

Good morning everyone. Yesterday was a great day with church and an afternoon of rest and spending time iin the yard just pulling a few weeds. I have never seen so many roots to a plant in my life as in Crabgrass. I was lucky that the ground was soft where I was working which made the job much easier.
Mama insisted she go with me outside but after a while decided she wanted inside where it was cooler. The girls are doing well and enjoying being home where they can come and go as they please without being on a leash. When we go for our walk they love the big open field where they can roam and sniff and explore all of the possibilities of new adventure.

Last evening we had a series of storms come through the area. They looked and sounded worse than they actually were, but it was enough for Mama and Hobo. The sky was pitch black and the lightening was flashing through the blackness making it very scary. I expected hail but we were spared. Mama and Hobo gathered at my feet looking for me to comfort them while the storm passed and me thinking who am I against such a storm and how can I protect them? I guess it was like when I was a child and I looked to my parents to protect me when I was afraid.
Anyway the storm passed and there wasn’t any damage, Just lots of rain. Peaches and Suzie are doing well, acting very energetic. Suzie is always looking for something to do, I wish I could figure out what job she should do to keep her occupied. Anyway all is well here and we are looking for a blessed day.

This morning at four Suzie and Mama became very alarmed. I got up to see what was going on and let them outside in the backyard. It was then I too became very alarmed when I heard a large pack of Coyotes just beyond the fence. It was still too dark to see what was going on but there were a lot of them out there in the darkness. I listened to them for a while after getting Suzie and Mama inside. There was a lot of whimpering and crying going on and could have been mistaken for puppies at play. This to me is frightening fearing for Izzie and the girls falling prey to this pack.
I am not an advocate for the slaughter of any kind of life but what does one do to protect his family from creatures like these? This is the first time this year I have heard them running in a pack. We have farmers and cattle ranches nearby along with some horses. Maybe they are aware of the pack and will perhaps call the DNR and let them handle the situation.
After walking the girls this morning I will go back to the woods to see if I can see anything out of the ordinary. This patch of wood behind the house is a perfect place for them to hold up during the day so I must be careful not to surprise them if they are there. Okay I have to go for now, have a blessed day and I will talk with you later.

After further investigation I found we have beavers in the area of the pond so I am sure this is what the coyotes were after this morning. I didn’t find anything other than downed trees where beavers have been cutting, but at this time this is the only explanation I can come up with.

We have had dogs attached and killed here in our neighborhood. A goldendoodle was killed last year and our next door neighbor's beagle was badly injured/ All from coyotes. I think it would be a good idea to let the DNR and neighbors know. It was published in the local paper so people know. I am not able to shoot anything myself!! However, there are no predators of coyotes here and the packs grow.
