Consider this:

Many dash boards today have LCD driver info displays

Many gas pumps are LCD display

What temps to they fail at?

I'd not worry much about -50

In fact I'd not worry much BELOW that either

Thogh I'd not turn it on at very low temps.. Try to get it up to something more comfortable FOR YOU first)

We still have the old CRT TVs and want to replace the one over the dash with a LCD.

While at the dealer last month for fluids & filters change we talked to the salesman. He said that cold does affect the LCD TVs and they have had to replace a couple of them due to failures.

Didn't delve into the problem too much due to time, so I don't know if it was really a 'cold' issue problem or just the normal failures of new TVs.

Our thought process was to install the yet to be purchased LCD with the ability to take it out during the winter when we aren't using the RV.

I thought I would go to the source so I emailed Toshiba for the answer. Of course they won't commit to an extreme. Here is what they said.

"Thanks for writing!

Exposing electronic devices that are designed for indoor use to extreme hot or cold conditions will allows run a risk of damage. Unfortunately we would not be able to say what temperature or for how long it would need to be exposed before such damage could occur. We do not recommend to store or operate electronic devices designed for indoor use in temperatures below freezing.

For further assistance, please write back or call our Customer Solutions Department at 1-800-631-3811. They are available Mon-Fri, 8AM to 7PM Central time.
