What does the water filter do ??

It filters the water! Depending what type of filter is installed, it will remove different impurities from the water.

Absolutely correct. I must have bought 20 or more white hoses in the past 30 years and they all have some taste.

I have found it makes more sense to just filter the water that I plan to drink. I use a PUR filter on the faucet. The shower, toilet, dishwashing and washing machine water is unfiltered.

Until we hear back from the OP, we really don't know what filter he is talking about.

From his signature, he will have a water filter on his engine and POSSIBLY one on his potable water system.

Sure don't want to mix the two!

Hi Wolfe,

Maybe the original post was about a water filter for the engine.

That filter helps remove sediment and minerals from the radiator water. It also helps keep abrasive materials out of the water, so the seals might last a lot longer. I put a Napa #4070 water filter on my motorhome when it was new, and a year later it was plugged with what looked like sand. So I keep installing a new coolant filter each year.

Even though I have a gas engine, I use the same water coolant filter that is a requirement on 2 stroke diesel engines to prevent cavitation in the engine cylinder walls.

Good Luck,

Fred.

Fred.

YUP, and there is a lot more to choosing the correct coolant filter than just replacing with the current part number, as they come with different "units" of SCA, which are CRITIAL to his linered diesel engine.

Just because a 4 unit filter was the correct filter last time does NOT mean it is the correct one to fit THIS TIME.

IF that is the water filer he is talking about, we can go into detail.

He must be out enjoying his coach.

Fred answered my question, the filter I WAS ASKING ABOUT IS THE ONE ONE THE ENGINE.
I switched to a heavy duty coolant that doesnt require adding or testing the sca.
I was wondering what the filter , filtered ,do to the use of no silicate and distilled water.
Now I use a blank with no additive in it.
Thanks, Rich

PS Sorry I wasnt clear on mu original post.

So, I guess you don't want to drink from that ONE ONE, huh huh!
Not a bad conclusion in only 2 pages.

Inspector Clouseau would be proud.

Yes, if you are using an OAT based long life coolant, you use a ZERO unit SCA water filter. And change it every two-three years.
