I have a 2008 Gulfstream Tourmaster on a Freightliner chassis. I looked behind the front bumper today out of curiousity and found a linkage arm with two rubber joints that seem crooked. Do U know what this is, and is this crookedness normal? The coach seems to drive fine. With warm regards, James

(The wheels are pointing straight now but I did a lot of turning right before straightening it out after parking. This linkage is only on the driver's side of my yellow generator.)

It's hard to tell from the picture but it appears to be some sort of idler linkage for your steering. The crookedness is normal for the type of joint it is.

Looks like the drag link. No problem being cocked. You can use pliers to temporarily straighten it if you like.

DO have someone turn the steering wheel back and forth (engine off) while you look and make sure there is no play in the BELL CRANK (top of the vertical arm the back of the drag link is attached to.

Its fine you can move it with your hand to temporarily straighten it. I have never seen one that would stay straight. It moves every time you turn your wheels

I agree that it looks like the steering drag link. It also looks to have zerk fittings on it, and that is great because you can lube it. Some drag links are "lifetime" (no zerks) and can come apart at the worst time, leaving you with no steering - dangerous at 60mph in heavy traffic. I recently replace the one on my truck.

And from the looks of it it needs lubing pretty soon.

Look on page 12 although the whole thing might be a good read for you.
