Well the wife and I are taking the plung so to speak in a differnt kind of way. We have camped for years from tents to an older TT to a new TT to now a new 5er. Starting in April we will spend the entire "normal" camping season this year as camphosts at an area reservoir here in Kansas. Since we love spending time camping at the lake and have no children a home now we thought this would be an ideal opportunity to spend time there with minimal costs and with the price of gas these days who can afford to go too far away anyhow. Kansas offers a nominal amount of salary to collect camping fees on your assigned campground and provides full hook-ups for no cost during the camping season. We figured if we are going to spend 75 days a year camping at the lake anyway we thought we might as well stay for free if we could and generate a litle cash in the process. I'm planning to start a blog to chronicle our season. For those of you interested in following our progress I'll post a link to the blog as soon as I get it going.

Wish us luck, should be an experience!!

We were camp hosts at Cheney State Park some years back and enjoyed our Kansas stay. I grew up in Kansas and we were staying close to family at the time. More recently we also hosted at Kit Carson Campground on Council Grove Lake for the US Army Corps of Engineers. It can be a lot of fun.

We are in outr second year of camp hosting and having fun. Whats more is that we are close to home if we need to go there but we are away from the neighbors, trains traffic ect. We are going to take a little vacation in late July and early Aug. Our plan was to go to Dodge City as a destination and hopefully check out Dodge City days and then points between on our return trip. After looking at the map maybe we will stop in and say hello. I agree with the gas prices being what they are and I have set my top price of 4.50 PER GAL. as a cut off that would cancel the trip.
