Greetings from north of the 49th parallel. We have recently purchased a RV lot in Arizona. Eventually (in about 4 or 5 years time) we would like to have a park model (purchased in the US) on the lot. In the meantime, it is our intention to tow our TT to AZ this fall and leave it there permanently. When the time comes to upgrade to the park model we would either sell the TT privately in AZ or use it as a trade-in against the park model. In either case it is highly unlikely that our TT will ever return to Canada. With that in mind, are there any declarations I must make and/or documents I must produce for US customs at the border?

I do not believe there is any special declaration required at the border. At the up-state NY campground where we have a seasonal, several of our friends have left their Quebec registered 5th wheels there for years now. The biggest issue is getting insurance on it when it's been out of the country more than 6 months. The Canadian insurers won't (or haven't so far) cover it so you need to find a US insurer.

Sell it in Canada take the money and buy a replacement in the USA,probably get a newer, bigger, upgraded unit for less money and hassle, have dealer take it to your lot, done deal.

Plus one for selling it in Canada first.
To sell it in the US, you will need to show it has legally been imported and have a "title" document acceptable in the jurisdiction you plan to sell. Too much hassle. I went thru this when I traded a Class C RV and it was neither simple nor cheap although a trailer might be less complex.

I would strongly suggest an 'all risks' insurance when ya leave it in the USA.
I have relations in FL, I am told by them that some Canadians who have done the same as you in various areas of the USA have had the RVs...end up suffering from 'break ins' and then fall under 'squatters rights' laws.
In some areas of the USA, property squatted in can only be resolved privately through the Courts.
I am informed that some incidents have happened/are happening in seasonal park lots and not just lots in the middle of nowhere!

We have some very good friends who left their Canadian 5th wheel in Ocala Florida for several years and then traded it in on a park model with no problems or extra paperwork at all.

Vehicle Imports can only be done at the border. Should you wish to sell it in the US today or years from now, you must declare it AT THE BORDER when you cross. Many rvs are brought back to Canada left in the south to sell back home because they cannot be ' titled' due to lack of paperwork. A bill of sale, as is good in Ca. is no good in the US.
I was a resident of Canada for 26 years, and imported/exported vehicles both ways. Bought a TT in Wpg. in '89 returned from Texas because it could not be sold there due to lack of import papers.
Contact US Customs. Get a Customs Broker. Cover Your Arse. Eh?
