I've just posted a photojournal of day trip from Whitehorse to Haines Junction and back yesterday, that you may find interesting and perhaps even useful (I found a great new spot for lunch ). It's posted on the ExploreNorth Blog.

Otter Falls does indeed have good food. And good fuel prices.
Nice spot for a stop!

Nice Murray. Is that a new scooter? Wasn't aware that Madley's had closed as I was by there last summer. Normally I like to stop at the deli there, but didn't get to Haines Junction at the right time of day to stop, I guess. The bakery was for sale last summer as we stopped there for some sticky buns. While enjoying the buns, the owner tried to put the sale speech on me. I should have kept track of all the businesses, that I was offered an opportunity to buy along the highway. The campground in Haines Junction was offered for sale last year also, as I remember the owners are friends of Sue T's.
thanks,

joe b.

Joe, the number of business changes the past year is amazing. I haven't seen the likes of it in almost 20 years - in the mid-90s we had a lot of businesses sold, almost every one to a German, Swiss or Austrian. This time it seems to be locals jockeying for position. I'm taking advantage of the rush by selling my place in Carcross - time for a Class C (probably a 27-footer) to wander with.

I got the scooter 2 years ago to celebrate my 60th birthday - got 20,000 km on it already

"It was only one day, but it was a Most Excellent Day! I should have been working, but my eyes kept drifting from the keyboard to the sunshine in the back yard and on the snow-covered mountain beyond, and I finally succumbed. Cathy suggested that I go for a loaf of bread, and where better to get it than the bakery in Haines Junction, at the foot of the Kluane Range 180km to the west!"

I love a free spirit! Kudos, Murray (and in spite of the bakery being closed, I certainly would not say the journey was for naught).

Thanks for the pics Murray. We arrived in Whitehorse 3 days before Rendezvous in 1974 and left in the fall of 1980. I really enjoy pics of the Yukon. Can't get back up there with the fifth wheel for at least another 2 to 3 years so seeing pics really bring back the memories. Loved going to Carcross and having Pie and talking with Don at the Carcross inn, then taking a drive up Montana Mountain to see the wild flowers.
Thanks again for the pics and stories of the current Yukon.
Cheers
Chris

Great pics. However, I should not have looked; it makes me want to drive the highway for the 3rd time. My wife says 2 times is enough. Said she doesn't care if I go again or who goes with me (within reason), but she is not going again. I guess I will just have to be thankful for the previous 2 trips. Maybe something will change in the future to convince my wife to go again.

Thanks again for the pics.

I really enjoyed your photos. If all goes as planned, I'll be seeing the same views from my truck camper in July, on the way to Alaska.

Thanks for sharing your pictures. Back in the 80's, we ran cross country ski trips to Yukon from Southern Ontario. Those trips were in March to take advantage of the blue, blue skies, and milder temperatures and longer daylight hours. There is nothing like the pure white snow on the Kluane mountains in the winter. We loved skiing at the Chilkat Pass on the way to Haines - wonderful Yukon memories!
