What heartworm, flea control and other worming medicine do you use?
I am thinking about using Trifexis, as the claim is to take care of all. Heartworm preventive, flea control and other worms.
Any pros or cons if you have used Trifexis?

Trifexis is what I have been using with our dog now for the past 8 months. He has to have it year round due to very sensitive skin issues. I have to wrap the pill (as it is lrg) in a slice of cheese to get him to take but it works.
And I really like it over the liquid flea meds as a pill leaves no greasy residue spots on his back. Don'r think I will ever go back to Advantage or the other squeeze tube forms.

I have a (fabulous) but rather "old school" vet whose advice several years ago was to avoid all-in-one products. His theory is that it's maybe not good to throw so many things into a dog's system all at once. I haven't revisited the issue with him recently, but in general I tend to agree with what he said.
So I use separate HW preventative and flea/tick control and space them at least several days apart. Plus I like the flexibility. I don't need to use a flea/tick control product all the time. We don't have any problem here at home, so the dogs really only need it when we're going to be out and about in the RV. If I used a combo flea/tick and HW preventative I'd have to give it regularly and it would end up costing substantially more over the course of a year.

Just remember that Trifexis does not kill ticks. This year there are lots of ticks in our part of the country so we need to keep them in mind.

- Heartgard Plus (ivermectin/pyrantel) for heartworm, ascarid and hookworm.
- Comfortis (spinosad) for fleas.
Both rather expensive but also highly effective. We actually cut the flea pills in half and they still work as well.

Thanks for all the replies. I think I will try the Trifexis. Hans just now reached the weight that is required to use Trifexis. I am not to concerned about ticks right now. We don't have any in our yard and don't plan on letting him run in the brush at CG's. Will just have to monitor him for ticks. Y'all are great for quick and accurate responses.

My son has used Frontline - his wonderful pup has just been diagnosed with lyme and anaplasmosis (both from ticks). He lives in Kenosha, WI, and runs with her in a public park, hardly where you'd expect to pick up ticks.
I've always used Advantix because of all the camping we used to do, and will continue to do so!

My littlest sheltie is allergic to Comfortis. We use Frontline Plus and Interceptor.
